Chapter 10 - ten

It was the morning after her wedding had ended in disaster and Monet woke up still in disbelief that she had finally stood up to her parents. She was in disbelief that she had actually admitted out loud to her parents that she had eloped in Vegas with Adrián. Everything that had happened yesterday felt like a dream, a very unreal dream.

Not only that, but her phone was going off the charts with the many calls and texts she was receiving from her family, especially her father, mother, and brother along with Trevor and his family. They were all leaving very unpleasant messages and voicemails. She had been ignoring them for a while, but it was no use since they were constantly sending them every single second. Her father was threatening to hurt her, her mother was calling her out of her name, her brother was saying that he knew all along that she was a hoe, Trevor's parents were sending the same messages, Trevor's sister was threatening to beat her ass, and Trevor was just texting her long paragraphs about how she embarrassed him.

Everyone involved were insane as hell. Not only were her iMessages blowing up, but so were here social media accounts too. Apparently, one of her cousins had decided to post the entire thing to social media because of how much "tea" had been spilled, which then led to many people on Twitter commenting and liking it. She was embarrassed to even know that strangers got a glimpse into what was going on with her life.

Aside from the disastrous wedding, she's been trying to think of what she was going to now. She had not gotten married like planned, she doesn't have a job, she's currently married to a guy she's only known for a couple of days, and since her family wasn't going to tell her that designing clothes was a waste of time, she needed to start designing once again. A lot of thoughts and questions ran through her mind of what she should do now that she was free.

"This is so complicated," She muttered to herself. It wasn't going to be easy for the woman to start being more independent after suddenly casting aside her family, but hopefully it was going to be a hell of a lot better than depending on her parents who would rather threaten to put her out on the streets without any financial help with just one little mistake.

A soft sigh caused her to her head over to the person beside her in the bed. This was the second time that she had woken up next to Adrián. This time, however, was different because she remembered what had led up to it and everything that had happened before, during, and after. She was kind of glad that she could remember everything because Adrián was a great lover. He listened to her and her needs, he made sure that she was comfortable, and he was just all around amazing. Monet had to admit to herself that her past flings weren't as great as he was.

His bedroom skills and attentiveness made her wonder about if his exes had turned out to be crazy and stalked him for that very reason. Monet knew that she would in a heartbeat. He was just. That. Good. After this entire marriage of theirs is over, she hoped that whoever married him in the future would realize how lucky she is. His bedroom skills weren't what made him as a person completely. It was his personality as well. Of course at first he got on her damn nerves with his attitude, but she warmed up to him after he apologized and they became kind of, sort of friends. Well, more than friends from the looks of things now, but friends all the same.

Monet's phone rang for the millionth time during the morning causing her and the person beside her to groan out irritation. Will everyone please stop calling her already? The deed is done. The wedding was ruined, she didn't love Trevor, and her tied with her parents and everyone else involved were cut. Why couldn't they just let it go?

The young woman reached over and grabbed her phone. The bright screen glared back at her as she looked at it. She squinted her eyes and turned down the brightness cursing herself mentally for even having a bright ass screen in the first place. She's on crack to even think that a bright screen is normal.

Monet noticed that she had almost fifty missed calls from her dad, sixty from her mom, forty from her brother, fifty from Trevor, thirty from his bitch ass sister, and fifty from his parents combined. What the hell? Not to mention that these psychos left her multiple voicemails that combined to over a hundred. Who the hell has time to send threatening voicemails like that? Not to mention that every text was a text or long paragraph that was very vulgar too.

"I need to change my number," She mumbled. She felt a shift in the bed and looked over at Adrián now on his back lying close to her with his eyes squinted open. He took her phone from her and looked at it.

"Yeah you do," He agreed.

"How long have you been awake?" She asked.

"For a while. Your phone keeps ringing so much that it's hard for me to go back to sleep," He responded.

"Sorry," She apologized.

"It's fine, but you should've turned it off after the first voicemail," He assured her. The very first voicemail she received was from Trevor. Now that voicemail was extremely vulgar and horrible to hear, especially with the way he was describing how he would hurt her. It kind of made her fearful of even seeing him in public. It was just that bad. Adrián, who was near her at the time, heard the entire thing and was pissed to the point of where he had volunteered to whoop his ass.

Monet, who actually like the idea, talked him down from it and assured him that she would bring the evidence to the police, even though they weren't going to do shit because she was a black woman, and Jade, who would bust a cap in his ass without alerting him of her presence or warning either. It was sort of scary how Monet knew her friend would act when it came to violence directed towards her.

"You're right, but this problem will be handled once I get a new number," She said. Monet went to her messages and went straight to her conversation with Jade. The last text she sent the girl was one informing her where she was.

"Hopefully," He mumbled. Adrián turned back onto his stomach and went back to sleep.

"We really need to talk about what's going on between us, but for now I'll let him sleep," Monet thought to herself.

Suddenly, Monet's phone started ringing and Jade's name popped up on her screen. She pressed accept and she put it to her ear.

"Hey, Jade. What's-"

"Girl, your fucking brother and father are at my place acting a damn fool right now," She hissed.

"What?!" Monet sat up quickly in the bed. She did not expect for them to even go looking for her at all, but you have to expect the unexpected with them. Adrián was startled out of his sleep by Monet yelling suddenly.

"What? What happened?" He asked. Monet ignored him and continued to listen to her best friend.

"Yes they're here, Monet, and they're banging on my door right now," Jade replied.

"Jade, how long have they been there?" Monet asked worriedly. The woman got out of the bed and quickly went to putting her clothes back.

"For ten minutes now. I've got my fucking shotgun ready for them if they try to break down my door," Jade said. Monet heard the sound of the click of her best friend's shotgun in the background.

"Did you at least call the police?" Monet asked.

"Yeah I did," She answered, "You know those fuckers aren't going to get here in time and when they do either I'm already hurt or those bastards outside my door are."

"Wait until I get there, Jade," Monet told her.

"Fine, but just know that if they try something then they're going to be sitting in the hospital with a bullet wound to the kneecaps," Jade informed her. As much as Monet loved her family, she would not hold it against Jade if she shot her dad and brother for trying to harm her. Monet knew it would be self defense and would pay Jade's bail.

The call ended and Monet looked to Adrián.

"What's wrong with Jade?" Adrián asked.

"My dad and my brother are both at her place and they're trying to break down the door," Monet answered.

"What the hell?" Adrián exclaimed.

"Do you mind taking me up there?" Monet questioned.

"Sure. Just let me get my clothes on," He said. Adrián got out of the bed and wasted no time putting on the clothes that were scattered on the floor. He grabbed his keys and soon they were both out the door.

The drive to Jade's place was silent and very nerve wrecking for Monet. She was bouncing her leg constantly in the front seat and checking her phone every second just in case she got a call. Monet's heart was hammering inside of her chest as she began to worry about her best friend's well being. Adrián noticed how nervous she was and took a hold of the hand lying on the arm rest between them. He gave it a light squeeze and continued driving. Monet was very appreciative of the fact that he was here with her and comforting her at the same time. She was lucky to have him with her.

When they arrived at the apartment complex, Adrián parked his car in the parking lot before racing inside with Monet. They both quickly got onto the elevator. Monet could hear her heart hammering in her chest as they went up the elevator. She was so very nervous and scared to see her father and brother like this because of the many angry texts they had sent her.

As soon as they reached their destination, they quickly got off and walked down the hall towards Jade's apartment. Monet noticed that the two men were being detained by two residents of the complex while the other residents were watching. Jade was standing away from them with the guy from across the hall glaring at them.

"Jade, are you alright?" Monet asked. Jade looked over and rushed towards her best friend. They pulled each other into a tight hug.

"I'm alright. I got a little spooked when they bust down the door," She responded. As much as Monet knew that Jade could handle herself, she also knew that Jade, like everyone else, had those times, whether they were armed or not, where they would get scared. She didn't think any less of her best friend for being scared considering how two big men tried to force their way into her apartment.

"Are you okay?" Monet asked again.

"I'm fine. They didn't even touch me before these guys handled it," She assured her.

"Thank God you're alright," Monet sighed in relief.

"We were extremely worried about you," Adrián said.

"I'm glad you came with her. Had things gone all the way left, then I don't think either one of us would have gone unscathed," Jade replied.

"No problem. I was ready to do what u could anyway," Adrián lifted up his shirt to not only reveal his abs, but a gun as well.

"Fool! Put that shit away," Monet hissed.

"Are you some type of gangster?" Jade laughed.

"Excuse me for not having time to grab my gun holster, but we were pressed for time," Adrián replied.

"I see, munchkin thug," Jade chuckled. Adrián gave her the finger.

"Jade," One of the female residents said, "The police are on their way right now to get these guys."

"Okay. Thank you so much, Rose," Jade smiled.

"You're welcome. We're all glad that you're okay and are just horrified that this even happened to you," Rose explained. .

"It is a horrifying experience, but my friend and I are safe no thanks to you guys," Jade gestured to Monet.

"Hello," Monet shyly greeted.

"Hello. I'm Rose Hawthorne, I love next door ," The woman said.

"Nice to meet you. I'm Monet," Monet smiled.

"She's the friend I was telling you about that's moving in with me," Jade informed.

"Really? Well it's nice to put a name to a face," She smiled.

"Same for you as well. Thank you for looking out for her during this time. I'm glad you all did your best to keep her safe," Monet responded.

"No problem. Jade is such a great addition to our complex," She said, "Now let me go see if Bill is alright since he got hurt a little bit."

"Alright. Thank you," Jade and Monet said.

"Do y'all need me to stay the night or...?"

"That would be nice. Right, Jade?"  Monet nodded.

"Are you trying to protect us both or are you trying to stay over for some late night pum-pum?" Jade asked. Monet was caught off guard with that remark because she started choking on her own spit and coughing. Jade laughed and Adrián patted her back. Monet glared at her best friend who thought that was so funny.

"Honestly, both," Adrián responded. Monet smacked his arm so hard that everyone in the hallway heard the sound. Adrián yelped, then laughed as he moved out of the way of her next attack.

"You're so annoying!" She snapped.
