Chapter 19 - Beasts vs Monsters (Part 1)

Emily was walking back towards the dorm, after going through the portal, and then she heard a sound behind her. She turned around and there was nothing behind her. She sighed in relief and then turned around to go back to the dorms. As she turned around she fell down while looking at the giant figures in front of her.

There were three High Goblins in front of her. Each one of them was wearing the skin of an animal that the had slain and signified which tribe they were from. They each stood at 7'5 and weighed over 200kg. They had dark red eyes with a white circle in the middle. They had big pointy ears and a long green noses that had warts on it's tip and sides. Their skin was light green which meant they were from the Alcan Empire which neighboured the country that the school was located in.

Two of the three had a giant club in their right hands. The one in the middle had a spear with a sliver point and a wooden shaft. By having such a weapon meant he was an important fighter in the village that had the privilege of using an advanced weapon. Majority of these spear wielding goblins could use magic and that was the main reason the had such weapons. All three of them were drooling at the sight of Emily as they had not eaten a human in years, and it was considered a delicacy in Goblin culture.

Emily recognised the creatures and became afraid because the spear wielding goblin could have magic. Goblins were physically superior to the average human and Emily was a weak girl who didn't train a lot in physical combat. She only focused on magic because she was good at it. She pushed at the air with magic and shot herself back a few metres. She got up and looked at her opponents while preparing the best spells she could use against them. Earth magic didn't affect goblins, so she prepared the other spells.

As she was done preparing her spells, she heard a sound behind her and this time there was something there. She turned to check her back and found a small pack of undead wolves. They had cuts and open wounds. There was no organs in some of them and one was missing it's right eye. The wolves circled around Emily and prevented her from escaping. Each wolve had it's fangs visible and were ready to pounce on their scared prey. Emily was now surrounded by 10 enemies with no easy way out of the encirclement.

Emily started sweating as she was scared that this was her last day on earth. She tried to calm down and focus but her body was shaking, and her knees felt weak under her weight. She collapsed onto the ground and started crying. She shot three fireballs at the goblins to try do some damage, but she was not focusing enough and controlling her mana output that spells couldn't reach their target.

The undead wolves ran at her back and sides as the goblin raised it's spear to throw at her chest. Time seemed to slow down as the creatures approached, and Emily thought to herself that these were her last moments alive. As the undead wolves got within a metre of her and the spear was thrown by the goblin, a pillar of fire descended from the sky and surrounded Emily while stopping the wolves approach.

As the spear was about to pierce the pillar of fire it changed colour from orange and red to a light blue. The flames vaporised the spear and destroyed the bodies of the undead wolves the were too close to it. Emily looked around at the flames but didn't feel any heat and didn't get burnt. She then looked up while wiping her tears away and discovered that there was an air and water magic barrier around her, to protect her from the flames.

The flames then disappeared and then a Phoenix descended down and landed in front of Emily. The undead wolves tried to attack the Phoenix, but it just turned it's head and looked at the wolves who went up in flames and died in that instance. The 3 goblins stood by as this happening and then changed their formation to surround the Phoenix in a triangle shaped formation.

'Not bad for lower beings' The phoenix thought to itself. Goblins weren't considered to be intelligent beings and the fact that they came with a formation that could trouble the Phoenix a little surprised the Phoenix. 'Something is wrong though. Goblins could never come up with this formation on the spot and those weren't natural undead, which means someone, or something is controlling them.

The Phoenix scanned it's surrounding to see if there was anyone or anything watching from a far. It saw an individual standing 1000km away from their position. The individual noticed it had been spotted, turned, and ran away from the Phoenix's view, 'What a smart creature. We will have to be weary of it from now on if our plan is going to succeed.' The individual thought as it ran away.

'Dammit out of range now.' The Phoenix thought as the individual disappeared at high speeds. 'They must be flying to move that fast.' The Phoenix looked at the three goblins surrounding it, which had now been released from the control of the individual. They looked at the Phoenix in front of them and charged at it realising the threat it posed to them.

The Phoenix sighed as it realised they were under control the whole time and stomped it's talons on the ground. Three separate pillars of fire erupted from the ground and turned the goblins to ashes. The Phoenix turned to the human behind it and examined them to identify any wounds. When the Phoenix found none it turned away from the human and flew away towards the Year 6 dorm.
