Chapter 24 - Beasts vs Monsters (Part 6)

Professor Nara floated above the ogre in front of him, while he looked down on it thinking about how to attack it. 'I can't use fire magic because the ogre is immune and I can't use darkness magic as it will strengthen it, instead of damaging it.' The Professor circled around the ogre to look for any weak points or openings where he could attack, but the ogre followed the Professor and never gave him the chance to attack.

Ogres were known to unintelligent beings that used muscle more then brains, however this ogre was making sure to not give the Professor an opening and it was standing in a defensive stance instead of charging blindly at the Professor. Unbeknownst to the Professor there was someone pulling the strings of the ogre as if it was a puppet. The Professor couldn't scout as far as the Phoenix and wasn't able to see the third party.

He stopped circling after he realised that it was just a waste of mana and energy. He released the float spell and landed on the ground. He looked around himself and realised that the rest of the army was also acting strange. The monsters were just standing behind the ogre and slowly surrounding the Professor on the sides, but they weren't attacking him. The Professor ignored them as the biggest threat was the ogre.

Most ogres couldn't use magic but the ones that could were extremely dangerous and that was what worried the Professor and prevented him from attacking his foe. 'I need to be careful how I attack this guy. If he can use magic then charging in for a close combat fight would be best except for the fact that he is an ogre, and his physical power is way above me. I could try using some spells as cover and then charging in to ensure I get a clean hit that will do damage with an air blade.'

The Professor sighed at himself, 'I'm overthinking this. There is only one opponent. This is why I always lose to the others. I can't keep a clear head. Okay let's calm down and assess the situation. If this ogre could use magic it would have attacked the dormitory which means it can't or doesn't have control. Considering the fact that it is alone and not with a tribe the latter is more likely. Okay let's see what it can do'

The Professor raised his hand and pointed his index finger at the ogre, "Inferno shot." A small ball of fire appeared at the tip of the Professor's finger. It slowly got smaller and looked similar to a bullet form a gun. There was then a small explosion and then it left the Professor's finger and went straight at the Ogre's chest. It pierced through the flesh of the ogre and went out it's back. However, as the fiery bullet left it's body the wound immediately healed.

'Well, I didn't think it would kill it. At least now I know that it can't use magic." The spell the Professor used was Tier 1, so he didn't expect much from it but it wasn't very mana expensive so it was a way to test if the ogre could use magic. Ogres are naturally born healers and their bodies can heal almost any wound, that's why the ogre healed even though it couldn't use magic. The professor knew this, so he used the Tier 1 spell as a test.

'Okay now to get a bit more serious, no darkness or fire magic which means the elements of destruction are gone. Air, earth, light, and water magic left. Light will heal it so I can't use that, so there are three elements left then. Okay here we go.' The Professor looked at the ogre and his surrounding to make sure that the battlefield was the same as he remembered it and then shouted, "Terra collapse."

The ground beneath the ogre began to rumble and then it split open. Terra collapse was a Tier 4 spell that used water and earth magic together. Earth magic would make the ground collapse under it's target, and water magic would soften the dirt to make it into mud that would prevent the target from moving. The ogre's lower body was now submerged in mud, and it couldn't move.

The Professor took the opportunity to charge at the ogre while it was trying to struggle out of the mud. It was smashing it's fists against the ground to break it, but it was ineffective. The undead wolves and goblins charged forward to protect the defenseless ogre. The wolves opened their mouths to bite the Professor, while the goblins swung their bats and fists.

The Professors leapt into the air above the approaching enemies and flew instead of running at the ogre. As he flew past the other monsters he dropped seed like objects along the way. They were fire seeds, an alchemical object that would explode on impact with the ground and unleash an immense amount of flames and those in it's area of effect, however these fire seeds were different.

The Professor had made them himself as a prototype but hadn't trialed them yet and saw this as an opportunity to test his creation. The seed like objects seeped into the ground and disappeared. Everyone watching was surprised at what happened next. The ground shock were the seeds landed and out came a plant that was similar to a Venus-fly trap but had sharp teeth and two eyes on each side of it's 'head.' The plant was completely covered in flames and attacked all the monsters in close proximity to it.

Twenty of these plants appeared out of the ground. They were all of 5 metres tall and ate all the monsters on the battlefield. The monsters that tried to run away from them were shot down by fire balls that appeared out of their mouths. The army of monsters that was one thousand strong at the bigging of the fight was now under fifty. The last monsters surrounded the ogre and prepared for the Professor, who was approaching at high speed.

He raised both of his hands in front of him with his palms open and then shouted, "Flare arrows." Arrows made of fire flew from his hands and mowed down all the enemies protecting the ogre. The Professor landed in front of the ogre and unsheathed his blade from the holster of his hip. He infused his body with mana and then raised his blade to charge at the ogre. As he was about to land his hit, his blade connecting with something else.

The Professor looked in front of himself and saw a cloaked figure. He jumped back, out of instinct, from the unknown enemy. "Wow. You really are good. I don't know if that was instinct or something else, but you just saved your life." The cloaked figure raised their head and looked at the Professor in the eyes.
