Chapter 6 - CHAPTER Five -GETTING A NEW SECRETARY

NADIA

The alarm rang through the early hours of dawn.

Arghh she hated if she had to wake up early and for a split second, she thought she still worked at her previous company.

She dragged herself from bed.

It was thirty minutes into five. She wanted to create an impression even if it cost her sleep.

The interview was at eight and she wanted to be there early.

Not knowing the number of people she was up against was the more reason she had to be there before anyone.

If people wanted competition, she was one tough one.

She dragged herself to the bathroom in her room.

Getting breakfast done was not something she enjoyed so she mostly skipped it. Today she decided to eat.

She brought out a box of cereal and milk.

"This will do."

She said to herself.

Minutes later, she sat at her favourite spot in the bus. Times like this, oh how she wished she had a car.

She promised to get one soon.

She looked down at herself again. She had chosen a black trouser suit and a pair of stilettos to match.

She held her hair in a band and the shine was radiant after the morning wash.

She smiled satisfied at herself. She needed the job at all cost.

IAN

Ian looked up from his desk at his head guard. Simon was on top of issues at his home and company.

He wasn't his assistant but he was reliable.

If any thing had to come to Ian, it had to go through the inspection of Simon.

He was Ian's friend. A thin floridly handsome man he was. The only person Ian was fond of more than his family.

"Your new secretary will arrive today. I hope you remember that?"

"Yeah I remember" Ian grunted.

"I still don't understand why you dismissed Carol. She was good at her job."

Ian lazily flipped through a page so Simon continued

"She was a good one."

"I had no use for her anymore. A secretary's job is to be a secretary. If you ain't a secretary, you are nothing else."

Simon looked at him in confusion.

"She was not being a secretary? Then what was she?"

He sat on a chair across Ian.

"Something she shouldn't be"

Ian answered matter of factly.

"You won't say would you?"

Ian crossed his arms across his chest and leaned into his chair. Simon stood.

" I'll go and bring the secretary who qualified to enter your company. The Secretarial Company called me. "

"Go"

Simon nodded and walked out.

Ian didn't like the idea of sharing his personal issues with anyone.

He was very fond of Simon, but there were things he couldn't tell him.

His family had involved themselves in his personal life and that had almost cost him his company but it had cost him millions of dollars.

His own family had blackmailed him.

It was years ago and he probably seemed naive but he was never going to forgive them.

He had then decided to shut people out of his life.

His companies were more important than anything. He had inherited a single B&B from his great grandparents and he had built it to become hotels and casinos and estates.

He had companies in almost a quarter of the world.

He single handedly established his businesses. So family was out of his life and he had no intention to start one either.

Simon was his childhood friend.

They had grown up in the same neighbourhood and attended the same elementary school through to high school.

Simon had then flown out of the country to get his degree and masters in martial arts whilst Ian continued to Oxford University.

When Simon came back, Ian had already established his businesses all over the country and the company had plans of its extension.

Ian had hired him as his head security and the two had made quick progress in their relationship again.

Whatever had happened to Ian, Simon did not know the details except for gossips he had heard from the local old ladies.

. Ian could trust him when it was related to his job but he wasn't willing to open up about any other thing.

Ian flipped through the résumes of the secretaries who applied.

He had arrived from a trip to Ghana today and he was very tired.

He wasn't going to read them. The most qualified one will eventually make it into his home and office.

Tge Secretarial Company was his and there was a reason he paid them.

All he had to do was wait.

He had other things to do. He stood up. He was flying to Argentina.
