Chapter 1 - Nameless

Standing on the street stood a boy no more than 14 years old, with nothing but the tattered clothes on his back and a cloth sack he carried around. He had dirty coarse silver hair, with pitch black eyes.

"The nameless are starting to get out of hand here Bralt, I'm worried about our safety if things continue to pan out this way…"

The fourteen year old boy could overhear their conversation as he stood right behind them, they seemed to be in their early twenties.

"Yeah, I heard they're usually a tight knit group of homeless people but they seem especially aggressive towards each other lately. What if it escalates and involves a normal citizen like us one day?"

'The nameless are aggressive against each other? What's going on here?' He thought as he looked down at his own half exposed ribcage. His stomach fiercely growled at him as his thoughts wander. 'If that's how things are I shouldn't stay in this town long, it could be dangerous.'

The boy left his spot as he started to walk on the road and head towards the slums of the town. As he walked he saw other nameless on the street. As he passed by, he walked up to an older gentleman with tattered clothes and a horde of items next to him and asked "Excuse me sir, I'm new to town and trying to get food. Is there any way you can help me?" he asked with a sly smile.

The old man immediately got up and put his arms around his horde of items. "Ehhh you're another nameless aren't you" the old man hissed at him "Leave me and my items alone! I warn you! I'm not any old man you can mess with." The old man looked the young boy up and down and growled "Your nameless nickname is Silver isn't it, I can easily tell by your hair color. Listen here little Silver, I'm not afraid to fight."

The young boy slowly backed away from the old man. "Yeah yeah I got it, I'll take my leave now" he scoffed at the man. Silver continued down his original route as he thought to himself 'I know they said the previous men said it was bad but it's much worse than I imagined. I gotta get out of this town as soon as I get the rations for another journey'

He continued walking down the streets until he managed to find his way to the slums. It was easier to shoplift from slums since city guards did their best to avoid them and their people.

He continued walking until he found a suitable store he could steal rations from. He strolled into the store and looked around. He saw a young man who seemed to be in his mid twenties standing behind the register. In front of him stood a young woman with stylish dress and lucious brown hair that flowed down her back. She also wore different colored rings on most of her fingers.

'What is such a fine lady doing all the way out here in the slums?' He wondered 'It doesn't matter, this might be the best chance I get to steal some food while the cashier is distracted.' He nonchalantly walked up to the food section of the store. For the slums it had a lot of food but it was still the slums, most of it stale bread or spoiled milk. He picked a few pieces of edible bread and stuffed them in his sack and took a quick look around.

He hastily tried to leave the store, but suddenly he saw the lady pointing at him, whispering something to the man in front of her. He didn't know what she said but he didn't wait to find out as he quickly made a run for the door.

After the lady was done whispering the man's face seemingly turned red with anger as he quickly left his stand to chase after the little boy.

Silver looked back as he noticed the man chasing after him and took as many turns as he could to try and shake the man off his trail, but to no avail. This kept up for nearly a minute until he took one wrong turn, it was a dead end. He quickly turned back as he saw the cashier quickly appear before him.

"I'm sorry sir! I-I'll give it all back if you just let me go!" The young boy stammered as he went to get the bread from his sack.

"You think I'll fall for one of you dirty nameless tricks again?" The man shouted as he quickly punched the young boy in the face before he could open up the sack. Before he could even scream out in pain he hit the floor and soon a kick was delivered swiftly to his jaw.

He whimpered as the man beat him, seemingly nonstop. 'Is this how they treat the nameless here? What happened to make the reputation of the nameless fall so~" before he could finish his thought more blows were delivered to him.

His eyes slowly started to tear up as the shining glimmer in his eyes slowly started to fade. After the cashier's face seemingly returned to normal when he stopped, but he was completely content, he spit on the young boy and took his sack, leaving back in the direction of the shop.

The young boy now left all alone in the slums of the alley no longer had the strength to stand up, as his eyes started to tear. 'Is this how all pathetic nameless are destined to go? Even me? Why couldn't I be different? Why couldn't I have a loving family and a loving brother?" He had a barrage of questions all cursing his own existence. This kept up until he could no longer think, and vision went completely dark.
