First Day at a New School.. Sort of
The interior walls shared the same white brick, however it was cleaner, giving off a new, modern vibe. It was empty, however it still radiated with life and warmth. She wasn't surprised though at the emptiness, why would a school be open on a Sunday at noon.
"I'm just here to drop off some of my things so that I don't have to bring them in tomorrow." Her father said from a room behind a large set of doors.
She poked her head in and was amazed by how large it was.
The room was half the size of a basketball court. It had smooth grey walls decorated by long rows of bookshelves and portraits of the past headmasters and headmistresses. At the very end of the room, perfectly centered to a large, arched window stood a long cherrywood desk. It was so clean and polished that it reflected the light of the chandelier above, casting a warm glow. Santa stood behind his desk.
Santa snapped his fingers, all of the boxes that were previously on the floor in front of him spewed out their contents, which raced in every direction to put themselves in their places, a trail of magic marking where they had been previously. In seconds he had unpacked, and his office looked like he'd been there forever, as it was now neatly decorated with books on magic artifacts, history, people, culture, etc. His desk was littered with neatly stacked, empty folders, and new printer paper. The boxes themselves disappeared altogether leaving behind nothing in their wake.
She left the office and wandered around the quiet building, exploring empty classrooms and closets. The location of the bathrooms, and the courtyard at the very center of the school. In the center of the courtyard was a large fountain, its crystal water flowing endlessly, there she noticed some birds bathing themselves.
She had just reached the cafeteria when she heard her mother's voice call out to her.
"Honey it's time to go! You can do some more exploring tomorrow, we still have a house to go see!"
Sandra Groaned and started to walk towards the door. She didn't realise just how far she'd walked until she turned the corner into the main hallway where the door was located, where her mother leaned on the banister.
"What's the point? As of tomorrow I'm going to be assigned a new room here at the school with the rest of the student body, I'm not going to even be able to unpack!"
She huffed slightly and gave an exhausted stare. She did not want to spend any more time in the car. As much as she loved her family, it drained her. Her mother rolled her eyes at that.
"You're still going to have to come home to unpack the things that you can't have in your dorm. Don't forget that you will have someone else in the dorm with you, your father and I can't show favoritism and let you have your own room, it wouldn't be fair to the other students."
"I know, I wouldn't ask you too" Sandra sighed. She understood that it was her parents responsibility to treat her like everyone else, she wouldn't expect anything less of her parents. To them, the world was their children, and she respected that.
"Also, you will be coming home for the several breaks that are scattered throughout the year, I don't think you'd appreciate coming home to a room full of boxes." She winked then walked out to the car. Sandra smiled and followed obediently, her mother had a point. She didn't think the idea of sleeping on boxes for a week would be very fun either. She stepped back out into the crisp morning air and turned back towards the school, looking back at the empty building before closing Its doors, locking them, and joining her family in the car.
