Day #2: Meeting More Friends
I awoke to the smell of eggs and bacon filling my room, I opened my eyes to see Evalin above me and a plate on my nightstand.
"I brought you breakfast, made it myself in the dorm kitchens!" She smiles cheerily and handed me a plate. The eggs where scrambled and the bacon a dark brown. I was never a fan of most breakfast foods, but eggs and bacon I could definitely get behind.
We ate together and chatted about things like the weather and what the other seasonal dorms might be like, until a thought popped into my head.
"Why are we eating up here and not in the cafeteria? And where's Hannah?" I asked, taking a quick look around the room.
"Apparently before school ended yesterday Hannah made another friend from the fall season named Dia. She's passionate about art and flower decorating. I don't quite understand but Hannah gets along well with her. They went to breakfast together."
I nodded and took another bite of eggs.
"I'd like to meet her later," I said "I want to get to know everyone, and make more friends."
Evalin smiled at this and took a bite of her bacon, the crunch sounds filled the room. I couldn't help but giggle at her blushing expression.
"I might have burned the bacon a bit." She said sheepishly. I laughed, something about this girl was so sweet it made me smile.
Soon the bell rang and it was time to got to our classes. The first half of the day was pretty slow, most of the students 8n my classes hadn't adjusted to the new schedule and I think half of them fell asleep before they even hit their desks.
Eventually lunch rolled around, today we had Salisbury Steaks and gravy and the Salad Bar was filled to the brim with leafy greens and fruit, I definitely helped myself to their surplus of strawberrys and whipped cream, yum! I was lucky enough not to run into Jaquelyn or Blaze in line today, so lunch seemed to be going pretty smoothly.
Or so I thought. Evalin and I were enjoying our meal when I noticed two figures in the corner of my eye. I heard a loud "crash" and turned to see that Jaquelyn had slammed her tray down beside us.
"Sorry, but this table is taken." her smirk irritated me.
"I'm sorry?" Evalin turned to her, her bunny ears were flush against the side of her head, a tale tell sign of her being irritated too.
"I said to move" Jaquelyn sneered, leaning right into Evalins face. I'm sure that she was so close Evalin could smell her breath.
Evalin stood up, meeting eyes with Jaquelyn.
"I'm sorry, but you didn't sit here yesterday, and we were here first today, plus we have friends coming. There are plenty of other tables so go take one of them."
Jaquelyn did not like this one bit.
"This one is closest to the kitchen and to the doors, I don't want to be late to my classes next block." Jaquelyn's grey-blue eyes seemed to darken.
"Then leave early like the rest of us, you don't have to stay till the bell if you want to be early to class." Evalin backed up slightly, I doubt she was enjoying being this close to someone of Jaquelyn's demeanor.
The temperature around us suddenly dropped, I could literally see frost starting to coat the table and the colar of Jaquelyn's blue leather jacket. I looked to Blaze who just seemed to be standing there, she didn't seam shocked at this conversation or where it was going, but she didn't look pleased either.
Jaquelyn was starting to raise her hand, Frost and ice coating her fingertips. She curled her hand into a fist and was starting to draw it back.
"Stop! Let's just find a different table! This ones too close to other students anyway. it's too loud. We don't want to get in trouble on the second day. " Blaze jumped in and grabbed Jaquelyn's arm, the rooms temperature seemed to quickly rise, then dropped back to normal. We could do little but watch as Jaquelyn shrugged the girl off, grabbed her tray, and walked away.
Evalin and I looked at each other briefly then ate in silence. I hope that we don't have to deal with Jaquelyn much, but I'm starting to wonder if this would be a common problem.
