Day #10 Autumn Festival
a couple days had passed since starting school at Holiday Academy, and ever since the fight with Jaquelyn attending the school had been pretty boring.
That is until today.
Sandra had been sitting in her dorm room after breakfast waiting for the bell to ring dismissing the students to their first blocks when a sudden announcement cam over the intercom.
"Students, I know everyone has been busy getting back into the school spirit as this year has just started. That's why we decided to host the annual autumn festival. There will be a lot of prep work to pull this off, so the Arts department, Home Economics class, and student Council will be hosting clubs to help run, supervise, and fund this project. I hope as many of you attend as possible, and any student participating in a class that hosts a club will get homework passes! So have fun and do your best!"
As the announcement came to a close Sandra could hear the slight chatter of the halls become louder as it filled with the excitement of students. She could hear the pitter-patter of footsteps as people hurried to and from dorm rooms. She decided to gather her things and try to hurry to first block so that she wouldn't get stuck in traffic.
As she arrived to her first block she almost dropped all of her books due to students shoving their way through the doorway, her shoulder had been nudged by a tall girl in a long dark floor length dress with orange flower hairpins. Sandra had to do a double take because she could have sworn the girl looked like a skeleton.
She made her way to her seat and had to brush herself off, sighing with relief that she had made it before the bell rang.
The rest of the first half of the day went smoothly however the excitement of the students made for some trouble walking from class to class.
Soon lunch came, she grabbed her tray and met Evalin at their normal table and was surprised to see Hannah, Quan, and the girl from earlier sitting alongside her. She looked to Evalin and slightly nodded to the newcomer.
"That's Dia, the friend Hannah made." Evalin said, attracting everyone's attention. She coughed awkwardly.
"So I'm thinking that we should all join the Home Economics club, they will be cooking most of the meals for the fair. The leaders of the different clubs aren't quite sure what the theme will be, but they want to do a meeting after school to figure it out. They want us students to help pitch ideas and figure out recipes for the food." Evalin exclaimed. She then turned to Quan and Hannah who nodded in agreement.
Sandra thought about it for a second then also nodded.
"We all already agreed to going, we wanted you to go with us." Hannah said turning to Sandra, a shy smile formed.
"I'd love too." Sandra replied and took a bite of her food.
"Great, the meeting will be around five i believe, in the auditorium. They recommend that we bring paper to write down the different ideas that everyone comes up with. They also said that if too many ideas are given we might have to do a vote to keep things fair." Evalin said. Hannah snickered. "We can all go together too, make sure that we all sit together."
Sandra nodded and everyone continued on with lunch. The rest if the day continued with the usual excitement.
After a long day if classes four thirty rolled around and the girls met outside the auditorium. they all walked in together and sat left front, right by the stage. the room was empty in comparison to the first day assembly so Sandra was able to study the very large room better. It was also pretty dark. Soon the other students filed in and the room filled with the chatter of students. They all took their seats as the adults walked on stage. Vala, a woman and a man Sandra hadn't met stood together on stage. The woman picked up the microphone.
"Hello everyone, I'm Tina, school secretary and leader of the Student Council and I want to formally thank every one if you for joining us today. To begin we will be sending around papers do everyone interested can write their names down. It's so that we can contact you and be able to tell how many of you are participating." She handed a clip board to Vala who proceeded to pass it around "We are excited to see what ideas everyone has come up with for the Fair. The theme is one of the most important elements because it dictates what outfits, food, decor, and rides have to be made. The school also provided one thousand to fund our project, any other profits have to come from a fund raiser. Any profits from food and ticket sales will be used to fund homecoming, so let's hope make good money off of this!"
She then put the microphone back on its stand and Vala passed around another paper.
"This paper is for a list of ideas. We will narrow it down to most picked ideas and if needed do a vote to pick the idea winner. Please write neatly so we can read it."
Sandra watched the paper slowly go around the room before eventually being given to her. She looked at the paper long and hard, ignoring other people's ideas as she tried coming up with her own. then a thought came to mind. She wrote it down then handed it to Evalin who sat beside her. Evalin did the same before passing it down. Eventually the paper had collected the ideas of everyone in the room and had ended up back on stage.
The Teachers then looked it over on a table they had on stage. The room was dead silent as the students waited with anticipation.
The man walked up to the microphone.
"The numbers where surprising to say the least, but the clear winner is culture. making this a culture festival more then a fair. Now what this means is that everyone involved will probably have to make foods from different countries." the students clapped. He tapped the microphone and the room once again became quite.
"This next paper will be ideas for food and decor. These will be split up between the Art Department and Home Economics room. The results of this survey will take some time to talley out and unfortunately we don't have the time today, so they will have to be announced at the separate meetings between the clubs this Thursday. Production and work will start Friday." he stepped away from the mic and handed the students yet again another paper where they wrote down different theme and food ideas. afterwards the students left to grab dinner then head up to their dorms.
Sandra sat on the edge of her bed and bounced her leg while thinking about what she would have to do starting Thursday. She'd hardly been in school over a week and now she has to help prepare an entire festival! One where money was involved none the less! She was nervous and so were the other girls, who had also went to their own rooms to make preparations and think over everything that had just transpired.
Again the day came to an end. Sandra stood by the window and watched the sun set before going to bed. Hannah had already drifted off, and soon so did Sandra.
