Chapter 22 - A Sudden Situation Part Two

Fate froze, and her killing intent began to surge. "Hahaha! Relax! Why do you think I came so early in the morning when I do not need to? But I must say you really underestimated this academy's ability to detect system users."

"Let's talk elsewhere." Fate grabbed hold of Jean's wrist and pulled her along. Jean was surprised at Fate's strength. Even after pulling hard, she could not get free.

The two made their way in between two buildings before Jean was tossed up against the wall, and a soft, delicate hand grasped her throat. Fate's eyes began to glow as she stared at Jean. Jean, for the first time in a long time, had felt fear. True fear. This girl in front of her, who was younger than herself, seemed to be able to take her life without a second thought. But at the same time, she couldn't pull her eyes away. There was something about Fate that made her not want to escape even though she was afraid.

"How did you know?" Fate asked. She knew denying it at this point would be stupid. There was only one way to know if someone had a system, and that was to get tested, so for Jean to know, then there must be another method.

"Can you release me first? I feel like you're ready to rip my throat out at any time." Jean trembled at this thought but still tried to compose herself. If it were not for the fact that Fate was grasping her throat, she would have probably already spilled everything with just one question. It was a strange feeling she got from Fate that wanted to suck her in.

Fate looked at her and slowly released her hand but quickly put her foot between Jean's legs pressing it firmly against the wall, sliding it right up under her crotch. The only way for Jean to escape at this time, was if she jumped up, which would put her at a very big disadvantage. Jean let out a sigh and looked at the glowing eyes in front of her. "The academy has a detection system in place at the entrance that records every system user who enters and exits. Second year students are tasked with guard duty and yesterday just happened to be my turn. Luckily it was, or else you would be in a lot of trouble at this time. I know you just came back from a portal planet, so my guess is you gained your system there. But your information was strange. Your race was in red, and next to it, it said undocumented. I had to quickly erase everything about the information and persuade my friend to help, just to take care of your exit last night and your entry this morning. Making sure there was no trace of your information.

"Fate, do you know what happens to new races when they are discovered? They are normally taken in and interrogated, tested on, and then sent to fight monsters to see what their combat ability is. The trinity structure is much more complicated than it looks. If the bigger families deem you to be a threat to them, they will try to erase you. Many new races will get wiped out before they can even leave any offspring." Jean's expression turned serious.

"I mean you no harm. I truly need you to help me train. But now I think I need you as my partner in the up and coming Academy Vs. Academy tournament. Your strength alone is stronger than mine. I am willing to pull every string possible to make it seem like you were hiding your system because of your family. I..." Jean felt the foot under her begin to rise, making her feel very uncomfortable.

"You know. I do not know what other people's stats are. But I do know that it would be a simple thing for me to kill you here and now. I can even make it so that you will follow my every command. But what you just said makes sense. Now, let me ask you this. Since you saw my information, what is my race?" Fate's eyes were glowing brighter. It was as if any minute now she would pounce and reap Jean's life. Fate leaned in. Her eyes were wide. They showed no emotion except that of a hunter who had just captured their prey. Fear that Jean had never felt before flooded through her entire being.

Fate was actually having a hard time controlling herself. She felt threatened. She felt like if she did not act now, she would be in an even worse position. There is a saying that even a cornered animal will bite back, and normally they are fiercer than the hunter. This is how Fate felt. Although she had total control of the situation from the beginning, she still felt cornered. Mainly because she did not know how many people knew about her. Those who helped Jean would also know about her. This left her unsettled and made her feel threatened.

"Vam-Vampire… Fate, do not misunderstand me! I do not wish to harm you in any way. And even my friend will never do anything to harm you. I swear on my life that she is loyal to me. We can even make it so you can come to this academy as an ability user. All the torment that you have received since the first day can be easily changed." Jean was sweating at this time. She now wished she never said anything, even if she was teasing her. She had also done her homework last night when she saw the race and immediately looked into it.

"Hmmm... " Fate thought for a moment, wondering if she should make Jean her servant or not. The only problem would be the fact that she couldn't do it in a place like this. "I can not trust you, and I sure as hell can not let you go. So you have one of two choices..."

"I can form a pact with you!" Jean interrupted.

"Pact?" This was the first time Fate had heard about anything to do with pacts. She had no idea what this pact was.

"A pact. It is something you would not know about unless you were from a trinity family. A pact seals an agreement between two trinities. If it is broken, the one who broke it will die. I do not mean you any harm, and even my friend will be willing to form a pact as well. We can all be on your side. My only request is for you to please help me with the tournament!" Jean still could not give up the tournament. It was the only chance for her family to become a dominant family within the higher tier families.

Fate sneered. "You still make requests when I can easily force you to become my servant. If you know my race, I am sure you investigated it. Not all those fairy tales were lies. I can suck you dry and then turn you into an obedient servant without some pact. One word from me, and you would take your own life as if it was nothing and do so with a smile on your face. But don't worry, I have heard the process of becoming my servant is very stimulating. so at least you will feel good before I make you kill yourself."

"Okay, forget about the tournament, but at least be my sparring partner! Either way, even if I became your servant, I would still need to be in that tournament. I am already on the school's list. They will hunt me down if I do not participate. I have to win for my family." Jean was really stubborn. Her whole family rested on her shoulders.

Fate looked at the girl in front of her that showed eyes of fear but still had a good amount of determination in them. She fell into a deep thought before coming to a decision. All in all, Jean had not done anything bad to her and actually covered up her huge mistake. "Alright but, we need to form this pact along with your friend. But you must deliver someone to me. She is very important to my future plans."

"Who?" Jean asked.

"I will explain after we sign the pact. Just know that if I sense anything remotely funny going on, I will kill you and rip your heart out." Fate said coldly as she lowered her foot and motioned with her head for Jean to lead the way.

Jean shivered at Fate's words but also breathed a sigh of relief. She did not want things to get ruined at this time. She was only able to stay firm in front of this demon because she was thinking about her family. She walked forward with Fate following behind.

Upon the rooftops above, two figures stood looking down between the buildings watching as the two girls left. "Dean, should I go and stop them?"

"Stop them? Are you dumb? They are the hope of our academy. You did what I asked, right?" Dean Li turned and looked at the young man next to him.

"I did. I made it look as if her birth date was entered wrong and dated it for the day she disappeared on Grolam. And is of the demon race and a fire user. But Dean, why go so far for this child? Regulations state we need to turn over all new races?" The young man asked; he was confused about why he was being tasked to do something that could get them all killed.

"You do not need to worry. This came from someone who is much more powerful than you think. You do not know this, but the universe is vast, and trinities are not the only ones who can roam about of their own free will. We were frogs in a well, thinking we were all powerful, but we finally ran into a race that is much stronger than us. The little girl down there who is only at level 2 can easily suppress a level 20. As she grows, she will be someone we may need to rely on. I just hope her hatred towards us trinities does not run too deep. Go and follow them. When they have formed their pact. Send notice for the little girl to come to my office." Dean Li looked at the two girls who were already a distance away before tapping his foot and turning into a mist disappearing from where he stood.
