The day at Los Calabasas Highschool went well for everyone except for Dawn. She seemed restless and unhappy that day. Where the hell would she get that kinda money to pay Max?
She then thought of borrowing money from Hazel then return it to her later. But no. Hazel would doubt her background. Rich girls like her would own such kinda money and beyond.
"I hope I got the right menu today." She bragged as she pulled out a chair and joined her friends at the cafeteria.
"Yeah." Lyn gave her a thumbs up.
"Dawn," Hazel called her out as she was about to bite her taco.
"I'd love you to meet Dwight and Danny. They are both cousins."
Dawn could barely notice the handsome gents in front of her as she was barely present in the scene.
How come she didn't see the hot guys? This was the same Dwight that Hazel told her that they were dating but also told her to keep it a secret. She could rarely remember it all cause probably she was drunk or something. But atleast she finally got to see and actually sit next to the most liked guy in school.
Dwight Bakers.
"Hey guys..." Dawn waved at the boys with a warm smile.
"You know them...right Dawn?" Hazel had to confirm for she wasn't sure if Dawn ever met them in the first place before.
"Yeah," she casually replied. "I know Dwight from the tennis club and Danny from the soccer club."
Everyone at the table let out a laugh. Did she say something wrong? Or were they making fun of her? She felt shattered.
"Actually it's the other way round." Lyn complimented.
"Yeah. Danny from the tennis club and Dwight from the soccer club." Krystal clarified.
"Oh. My bad." Dawn was embarrassed. How could she not know such kinda stuff like these? She noticed Hazel couldn't stop staring at her with a concerned look in her eyes and tried to keep it casual.
"Are you okay Dawn?"Hazel asked.
"Yes technically." She tried to hide her agony but she didn't know that her face dictated otherwise.
"No. You don't look okay as you claim to be Dawn." Paige commented as she had her sip of her favorite avocado milkshake.
"Yeah. What's the matter?" Lyn who sat next to her touched her hair making her feel more uncomfortable.
"Or..."The heartthrob dark curly haired Dwight spoke. Gosh..his voice was mesmerizing. She could melt listening to him talk all day.
"Could it be that our presence here makes you uncomfortable?" He went on with a small giggle in the end.
"Yeah..." The other heartthrob staright brown neck length haired Danny spoke.
"Maybe that's the reason why she's so mute right now." Danny concluded.
Dawn couldn't believe that the two cousins were flirting with her right now. Why would they do that or maybe they were just trying to be nice.
Hazel noticed what was going on and she was somehow a bit envious that Dawn had the boys' attention already.
"Stop it the both of you." Hazel warned the heartthrobs. "Oh come on Dawn...you can't tell.me that you are afraid of boys... moreso of Dwight and Danny." She went on.
"No. Not at all." She then sighed in and leaned back on her seat. "I'm totally perfect."she hardly smiled.
"You sure?" Danny raised his eyebrows at her.
Why was he trying to be so nice towards her?
"Hmm yeah." She nodded.
When the rest of the gang made jokes and shared stories together Dawn couldn't believe whom she saw.
Max.
He was coming towards their table and she tried to hide her face with her gorgeous silky strawberry blonde hair but it was all in vain.
"Dawn Anderson!"He banged their table shocking everyone. Hazel was furious at him.
"Hey! How dare you storm here in the middle of our conversations just like that?"
"I'm not here for you Hazel. I'm here for her." Max pointed a finger at Dawn whose face had turned red due to the embarrassment he was causing. Why couldn't he just leave her alone.
"What's wrong with you? Why you so mad?" Dwight demanded.
"Why don't you ask your so called friend Dawn? Why don't you ask her why she's not paying me up my 5K?"
"What!" The whole crew gasped.
"5,000 what?" Hazel still didn't understand what the hell Max was getting at. She looked at Dawn who was shy to even face them all and for a minute she kinda believed Max claims.
"Dawn..what is he talking about? Does he really owe you that kinda money?" For a minute there she wanted to believe that none of it all was true.
"What is your problem?" Dawn rose from her seat and sheepishly yelled at Max. "Do you really have to humiliate me this way? I told you I'll pay you next Tuesday."
"You're a liar. You always postpone your pay dates. I want my money now!" Max created attention in the whole cafeteria and Dawn couldn't help but feel helpless.
This was the kinda situation she was trying to avoid and it was all a nightmare. Why couldn't Max just approach her privately instead of publicly shaming her most especially in front of her friends. More so in front of Hazel.
"What is the money for? What is he talking about?" Lyn was also confused.
"For my Rolls Royce." Max stated not giving Dawn a chance to defend herself.
"What?" They all exclaimed. Again.
"It's true." Dawn admitted. Besides there was no point of hiding it any longer. The truth was finally out.
"He owes me that because...because my car broke down and it's is in the garage being repaired so I borrowed his car. That's why I use lots of expenses on my broke car." She didn't mean to lie again. But the disgusted faces her friends made around her wasn't easy to cope up with. She could tell that they were starting to doubt her and there's no way she'd ever wanna lose that kinda gang.
"Psst...Again you're lying." Max threw those words on her face.
What the fuck is wrong with this guy?
"Max please! Stop it. You're embarrassing me."
"Why? Don't you want your friends to know that you're broke as hell and that you don't even own a car?" Max then faced her friends who were all in shock. "Yes she's lying. She's not as nobled as you think she is." He said pointing a finger at his face.
Dawn broke down. This has got to be the worst day of her life because everyone at the cafeteria watched the whole scenario.
"Mr no good news guy just get the hell out of our sight now!" Lyn barked at Max because she couldn't stand him.
"Not unless I have my money with me." Max looked at Dawn who gave him a fiery look.
"Bitch better have my money." The thick blonded guy clamoured.
Dawn knew that it was the end of her world with her nobled friends. Hazel and the rest of the team would never talk to her again. She saw Hazel take out a cheque book and a pen from her bag and wrote something on it.
"Here!"quot; Hazel handed the cheque to Max. "That's 6,000 dollars. A thousand extra for your cheap manners. Is that settled?"
Danny grabbed the check from Max and tore it apart in front of them leaving everyone amazed.
"What the hell bro?" Dwight was surprised.
"No need for a cheque. I'll do the payment in cash." Danny bragged as he took out the money from his wallet and gave it to Max who stood near him. "No thousand extra for you."
Max quickly out the money in his jeans and gave each of them a fiery look.
"Gimme my car keys."
Dawn took out his car keys and handed them over to him. She regretted meeting him and making that decision of having to even lend him his car. Max grabbed his keys and walked out of their sight.
"Guys am so sorry for that embarrassment." Dawn apologized in front of her friends.
"Don't mind. It was nothing." Hazel smiled at her. "I mean we don't believe what that scumbag said right?"
"Yeah." The whole gang chorused as they all gave her a group hug.
