Chereads / The Alpha Heirs / Chapter 5 - Chapter 4

Chapter 5 - Chapter 4

Running from the Mafia King was the only thing that kept me going, that adrenaline pulsing through my veins, as I pushed myself to continue to the motel.

Strangely, his cold teal eyes softened when they landed on me, actually, his whole aura changed, when he saw me frozen in my hideout. It when to anger as someone was eavesdropping to an unexplainable soften expression, that almost left me speechless.

I knew this was a dangerous mission before the meeting started and before I left Birmingham.

I ran across the town, making it to my room at the motel, immediately feeling safer after I locked the door with the three deadbolts. Taking a couple of moments, leaning against the cool door, I took in deep breaths, working to steady my frantic heart.

Watching and listening to him criticizing my father for his selfish reasons, for some reason teared me up. I couldn't help but agreed with him all the way, and then I understood why father didn't tell me about the marriage, because it wasn't a sealed deal. Which I should be happy, but I was still leary.

This must have been the first he heard of me because he looked taken aback at the news. Regardless, he was more drawn to the attention that my father had selfish reasons for keeping me hidden and how business was done.

I accidentally pushed the box that was behind me when I heard his words. When it dropped to the ground, I looked in the direction of the small group and saw his face fully. His stern teal eyes relaxed, and he had a smile slowly making its way to his face, and his scrunched brows, raised as he was surprised.

I bolted knowing my cover was blown and didn't want my identity to be known. I jumped down from the platform and swerved around the boxes and his guards that were lunging at me in different directions.

And then once I made it outside, I could hear the clip of a bullet being loaded, and it hit his target, grazing me on the right side. Taking my breath away and while giving me more adrenaline to rush back to my temporary base.

Walking around in my motel room, I took a quick shower, then bandaged up the wound, before crawling into the comfortable bed, thinking about those teal eyes for a bit. Thankfully, exhaustion got the best of me, and I was out within ten minutes. Leaving my problems for the morning, where I felt more rested to deal with them.

"How did you miss her?" I asked my guards who looked ashamed while standing in front of me. I was enraged because they lost the girl, a little girl! And they were standing there too afraid to speak as they should be.

Regardless of how they were feeling, now was not the time to be afraid, but to give me answers, a small girl managed to get past four highly trained wolf warriors, how embarrassing!

"We don't know Alpha, we checked the whole building, in both forms. We would have smelled her if she was anything supernatural or human. Maybe she is.." One trailed off, unsure if he should continue, and another took control. "A normal human would have not been able to run that quickly from us, nor keep going after a bullet." They bowed their heads lower showing that I'm in control, of what happens to them.

Inside I knew my beast was angry, yet happy at the same time and there was only one thing can cause that. A magical thing, provided only by Selena our Moon goddess.

"She has brown hair, long. Blue-green eyes that you can't miss and she is about fourteen or fifteen. Maybe check high schools and junior highs. I want her found, don't disappoint me again." I didn't expect it to be a girl, I could feel somebody watching me the whole time, yet I couldn't pinpoint where, even my beast was frustrated.

But when I caught her eyes, I knew she was my mate, by the way, that my body felt different seeing her. Yet when she ran, it became a game, a game that will have a greater impact on both of us. Whether she knew it or not.

Finishing up the business with Young's ambassadors, I left for my hotel across the city and freshened up, already exhausted from the day. While lying in bed I couldn't help but think of her, and those piercing blueish-green eyes. 'who was she?' I asked myself, and it wasn't long after, that I fell into a light sleep, how I normally slept.

Waking up the next morning, I was sore all over, debating whether I wanted to leave the bed or not. When I finally got up, in need of the restroom, my legs felt like jello from running so fast last night, and my side ached from the gunshot.

I checked my phone after I got done bandaging the wound, after carefully cleaning it out, again. I widen my eyes, seeing that I had five missed calls from George, and one text message, that had a bunch of exclamation marks.

"Mackenzie where are you? The ambassadors have returned, saying that the meeting was interrupted by someone! Was that you? Answer me!!!" I winced, picturing him freaking out at the house, and called his number immediately, to listen to George's angry breathing on the other end, but stopped him, before he could say anything.

"George, listen. I need you to listen very clearly. Are you somewhere away from Alex?" I asked in a stern tone, hearing the man move, and held my breath, as he asked for a dismissal from my father. My father dismissed him without any hesitation, and then George grunted an affirmation, showing I could speak.

"Mackenzie, I need to know your okay, the ambassadors came back, saying that the deal didn't go plan and that the.." I interrupted him to speak my part, hoping that he was in a place where he could say my name freely.

"I'm fine, it was the Mafia King that they met. He was also the one that I am to be married to, strangely. I figured out that he shows no interest in me since he didn't like the deal that would happen between the two. Although he tagged me on the side, it's nothing damaging.

"Tell Alex I plan on returning from my trip in two days, in case he's wondering. Send any bodyguards my way to prevent him from knowing about my expedition, I'll do my best to not get caught." I ordered while wrapping up my wound, so I would be comfortable, as I planned on sightseeing since I was in a different part of the continent.

"I will do what you've requested, but, how do you know it was the Mafia King that they met?" He asked on the phone, in a curious but worried tone. I paused what I was doing and remembered the man's face.

I remembered how his bright teal eyes lit up when he saw me, but it also looked like he was fighting something within himself. 'How strange.' I thought to myself while finishing wrapping the wound.

"I overheard them call the man by his title. Send those bodyguards my way, and tell Eli that he needs to cover my notes for the next couple of days." I hung up and got ready for the day, not glancing back at the bed.

To be honest, I looked older than most girls around my age, and thankfully I knew how to use makeup to an advantage. Since I've been on countless missions that needed me to put on a disguise, of either a man or an older lady.

I don't plan on staying out long, because there was the risk of seeing that man again.

In the Mafia world, when somebody is tagged, that means that I belong to that person as a victim to kill. And I don't plan on dying yet. Not when the company and the mafia are in my father's hands.
