Upon arriving home I went straight to the secret office that my father called for me from, a place that I've been lately called to. When I first walked in I was greeted welcomely by my three brothers and Maria, who were happy that I was doing okay.
The maid asked for my bag and my brothers gave me supporting hugs, knowing that I needed all the support that I could use, since it was the same for all three of us when we're called to the office, nothing good ever happens.
Jonathan walked me to the front door then walked back to the security building where our guards stayed, tired from the long day, and I didn't blame him, I really did drag him around this morning.
On the way home, in the SUV that Jonathan was driving, I tore off the wig blond I was wearing, took out the hazel contacts while putting on a bit of makeup to look presentable in front of my father who wanted me to look the best as soon as I step into our house.
I walked down the hidden hallway to the far end, where the double ancient wooded doors were standing, in a dark hallway. Taking a deep breath before gently opening the door, stepping inside quietly out of habit, since there were times that I would walk in when he had important meetings, and I was scolded for daring to show my face.
As I walked in, I grabbed his attention, watching him glance from the papers in his hand to me, as I walked into the dark office. Turning my attention to his secretary, Lizzy, who jumped up out of her seat, and was about to shoo me out as she did in my younger years, but he interrupted her.
"Stop, you are dismissed Lizzy, come back tomorrow." He ordered in an ice-cold tone while locking eyes with her for a couple of minutes, and I stood there watching them. It looked like they were having a secret conversation most likely about me, as they spoke with their eyebrows, and I crossed my arms, looking around the room, even though I've been here a couple of times.
When he just waved his hand, suddenly ending the conversation, she took the hint and walked off, leaving her paperwork for tomorrow.
"Hello, I've arrived home. What would you like to speak about?" I asked sarcastically taking a seat in one of his fine leather seats in front of his dark wood, desk, hiding the fact that I was still slightly annoyed with the incident that happened this morning.
He set down the paperwork meeting my gaze for a moment before pulling open a desk draw, taking out a small wooden handmade box. Looking between the box and him, he just took in a deep breath, before placing it on the desk in front of me.
Taking in a deep breath, I turned my attention to the old man sitting in front of me, as he was taking a moment to think about what he was going to say.
"Mackenzie, you're not normal." He bluntly started and I wanted to scoff, and then he continued. "You are the only one of... your siblings that aren't fully human." He spoke while facing me the whole time, and I let out a sigh, nodding my head as I processed the information.
I knew that this was something he was having a hard time explaining to me, and I intended to make it harder. Since based on his reaction he was hoping that one of his sons would be in this seat, hearing the words.
"How so?" I asked, tilting my head to look out the window behind him, so he could quickly end this meeting. I don't know what this was going to be, but I was more interested in why he was getting softer around me like it would help his case of ignoring me for fourteen years.
"You're a pureblood female Lycanthrope, and sadly one that is has caught many interests." He started off once again blunt, before lowering his eyes to the box in front of me. "Your mother was a normal human that had lycan blood, while I was the pureblood lycan. And despite hoping that it was one of your brothers, it turned out to be you." He talked in a gruff voice catching my attention, as I heard the hint of disappointment in his voice.
I always knew there was a supernatural world within this world, it doesn't take much to realize that humans were not alone in this world. Once confirming that I was part of the supernatural world, I was happy, as this would help me in countless ways.
"This box has what purpose?" I asked looking back at the box on the desk, avoiding his green eyes that were watching me react. "And there is some information that you're not sharing," I observed as he looked at the box, with sad eyes.
"Actually the box was a gift from your Mother. For your fifteenth birthday, which is coming up tomorrow." He answered in a soft tone before glancing back at me. " There is indeed more information, but I will tell you after your birthday and your time of the month." He spoke of my period freely, while I blushed at the thought of it, indeed it was coming up soon.
"You're going to hide information from me that could be valuable in the end?" I asked while he looked at me with an indifferent face. Although the news he gave me was shocking, I didn't show it, thanks to the multiple years of managing my emotions.
"I'm holding information until you fess up and tell me the reason why you left in the middle of the night." He spoke in a casual tone, then picked up his paperwork again, telling me that this conversation was coming to an end.
I slammed my palms on the desk, smashing the paperwork in his hands, immediately gaining his attention. I was furious about many things, but this, the lack of giving me information broke my patience
"Why did you have your ambassadors meet the Mafia King? Was it for me?" I fired questions, knowing that my whereabouts have been exposed, but at this current moment, I could care less. "Let me tell you how it went, in case your ambassadors were too scared to speak the truth to you. I was there and I caught the face of my supposed fiancé.
"Is he the one that you talked about? Well, he wanted nothing to do with you, even called you selfish, meaning that the deal won't happen. The only reason why you're willing to marry me off is that you don't want a woman to inherit your company. Father, let me tell you something. If I get married it's because I choose to marry him, not to be controlled." I wanted to throw up when I said his title, while expressing my opinion, but continued.
Opening the door and slamming it shut, I walked down a hallway and slid down the wall, and took a couple of moments to cry. It reminded me of how weak I was back then when I would sit here upset when my father refused to look at me, ordering Lizzy to take me back to my room.
Now, I was crying in this same spot for the opposite reasons. It was the first time that I had the final say of an argument, and it was one of the first steps to get out of his control.
Holding the box in my hand, I stood up and walked the long way to my room, avoiding the rest of my family. Entering into my bedroom, I was planning to take a calm relaxing bath and got distracted when I noticed a stack of homework on the vanity. I studied for a bit before I glanced at the box.
The box was handmade, engraved in the word there were fancy carvings of wolves and the moon cycles, that I knew took a lot of time seeing how much detail went into it. In the center of the lid, below the moon cycle, there was a capital cursive M, that made me smile.
I opened the lock which was surprisingly unlocked, and opened the dusty box, coughing when the dust went in some of my airways, unprepared for the sudden attack.
The contents were a folded-up letter, a small emerald necklace that had a wolf scene, silver with emerald stones in the wolf's eyes. Next, a dagger made of silver, with a steel handle with gems inlaid. Finally, a little bag of herbs, that I would have to ask Rhonda about.
There was a letter that contained a message to me, before I was born, and when my father was excited to have me before the gender reveal. He was telling me about the outside world and what my place in the company would be, but it never happened.
Knock knock! "Hey sis, Jace is here to see you, so I suggest you get out and get dressed." Josh came in and knocked on the bathroom door then left. I quickly dressed the wound, getting into sweats, only because they were comfortable and I was finally home.
"Kenzie, you have a quiz in your science class, that's what Eli wanted me to inform you about." I put up the box in my secret compartment before Jace walked in like he owned the place. I nodded to his announcement then faced him. Jace has messy brown hair, dark blue eyes that constantly remind me of a cute puppy.
"Alright, thank you for letting me know. Do you need something else?" I asked as he rushed to me pulling me into a hug, once again leaving me confused. He just held me for a couple of minutes then let go, pulling back to see my reaction as I was slightly uncomfortable.
"I'm sorry, it's just that you scared me when I heard you just disappeared, don't do that again. Ever." I pushed him and chuckled at his light threat, and he stood there displeased with my reaction. Even though he was trying to look serious.
"I know how to handle myself, besides I just needed a break." I patted his back trying to comfort him but then dropped my hand just as quickly. "Let's go eat something." I walked to the kitchen asking for something simple to be made, ending up with nachos, while Jace had a simple sandwich.
After three hours of handling Jace, we spent the time, doing homework, games, or just hanging out. However, I was elated to hear he had to leave because it was exhausting being around him.
As much as I like to spend time around Jace, I just needed a mental rest now. That was the first time Jace got emotional over something that I've done.
"I hope he's not falling for me. I don't think I can return those feelings, something about the next two weeks is catching my attention. To make matters worse, I have also been marked by the Mafia King. Meaning I can't fall into a relationship with somebody unless I clear my marking with the Mafia King." I muttered out loud after I closed my door.
