Chapter 12 - I've got one quest.... and I completely forgot it

Waking up in the camp I scrambled looking for worm 1. Found it, flattened under me....did I toss and turn in my sleep did it wriggle up under me!?! Well crap so much for bug catching to become a master. Pushed over a few trees to get my breakfast and tamed worm 2 and grub 1. Really need a bug cage....

After breakfast I got water in the creek and held the bugs above the water, apparently 5 minutes wasn't long enough for them to learn to swim. Carved an extra notch in the rock wall for another log on either side, connected it to the wall and added more pine straw. Really not looking forward to making the roof. Made a few spears and fire hardened the tips, talked to my new pets while throwing these sad spears, it was all very, very, boring. Sure I was hungry but every tree gave me more than a handful of worms and grubs, not great but I could gain weight if I could choke down all I could collect. Then finally something happened, spotted a deer in the distance, I tried to carefully get closer and fell knee deep in a pothole, crying out I alerted the deer that then sprinted off. A sneak skill would be really nice about now... going back to camp after largely taking a day off, I couldn't help but be dumbfounded, all these amazing supernatural gifts and opportunities and I'm still just an average joe.

Spent the last couple hours of the night trying to "sneak" up on my pets. Didn't get any skills so I guess that wont work. Injured a couple grubs and left them with my named one then nestled down in my little cot.....what was the logout phrase for sword art, that is online again?

Waking up....wait will I never dream again? Oh well getting up to get some coffee going will help, also gotta dig up some worms to add to breakfast, that skills not gonna come in a day. After have a nauseating worm omelet I get back on ESO the grind the ice elementals, each time I'm slowed by the cold I feel a chill I swear my fingers even move abit slower. After a couple hours it's time for work, cant help but spend my shift wishing for an easy way to get a sneak skill.....I'm an idiot.... getting back to the apartment I boot up ESO, crouch and use the honorable rubberband trick to walk in circles in a craft shop. The NPCs move so I'm bound to occasionally enter a blind spot. Turn off my TV and head out, my hands are still too blistered to practice more woodcutting but I can practice collecting worms. After an hour of this nonsense, can't help but feel abit too bored and embarresed to keep going. I toss the worms in a nearby creek and start heading back to my place. The xbox is cut off, thinking for a moment I guess that the game now detects rubberbanding after a while and kicks you off, dang it. How else to train multiple skills at once, or get bonus skills or something? Dangit no I'm gonna hold off on checking the app. Hmm any skill that reduces nuances and downtime in my life should make me faster at everything, but some have to be better than others. Been focusing a ton on surviving on the other side getting faster in learning or gaming should help me over here but how?

Gotta got to the library tommorow, I'm an idiot!

The system gives a skill anytime I do something 1,000 times so I've gotta read 1,000 books, sounds daunting but if I use kids books I can plow through them, maybe not in a day but still. Got exp in game when a random grub developed a skill so if I can teach them to train themselves that'd be passive income. Wonder if webnovel has any nonfiction bug training or handling books?

.....had to give up after I found a book on animal castration.... fact is so much more terrifying than fan-fic

Wait, there it is! The legendary mechanic....this is it this is the webnovel game world....leveling skills grants attributes!...zzzzz

Waking up I find my pets in a small hole I dug, the cut grubs have died of course and grub 1 had learned canabilism but dont really notice any extra damage to the bodies.

Let's see what happens when I max out my skills.

Subterranean Bug Collector: Lv 5 (0/6400)

Grant's a small chance of taming subterranean bugs you find and 3xp for each one.

Well at least I can gain exp faster...

Bug Tamer lv 5 (0/1600) Bugs you tame will grow 9% faster and be 8% more loyal to you.

You have unlocked the Ability Bug Enthusiast +1 Dex, +1Int, +1luck when working with bugs

.....

so now I can catch and train bugs faster.... how is this not pokemon?

Found a spot with hard clay and stamped it with a nearby log over and over to make a hard packed indention a couple inches deep. Then made another about a foot away. Now I have bug cages. Poured water in about a quarter inch deep then put in my pets and added an inch of dirt to one side, maybe now they'll get that swimming skill.

Going off aways from camp I trying shouting and screaming over and over, after 10 minutes.

Yell lv 1 (0/100) You can shout 5% louder for 3% longer.

Welp better knock over some more trees, once I had enough xp.

Yell lv 5 (0/1600) You can shout 18% louder for 15% longer. Your shouts are now 5% more intimidating.

Dangit no attributes or extended lung capacity.

Checking my notification log I saw my 2 old pets learned the skill "wade"...so walking in shallow water...still got me some xp. Headed back after collecting several new tamed grubs and worms and eating a chunk of the rest. Add dirt to the dry hole along with a couple freshly wounded worms and grubs plus some shredded leaves. Put all the new pets in the wet hole. Then hammer out a third pit in the clay. My pets can somewhat auto farm xp for me now, hope I also get a skill from them learning skills, sure I boost thier learning speed already but if I get something for specific skills that should really speed up the farm. Head back to my sad little shelter and work it up another couple layers. Its finally more than waist height and it should be a durable permanent structure but god it's taking forever! Hmm a skill might help.

I go and find another large rock and quickly shape up a few very rough wooden "pick axes". Naturally gotta swing until they are destroyed build a few more and try again.

3 rounds of this futility later.

Shoddy Tool lv 1 (0/50) Shoddy tools you use will be 5% more durable and 2% more effective.

Welp time to grind xp again.

Shoddy Tool lv 5 (0/800) Shoddy tools you use will be 25% more durable and 10% more effective.

Gained an additional point of endurance with this one, now to put it to use, another 4 rounds that seemed much less futile later.

Rock Carving lv 1 (0/100) Rocks will be 3% easier to carve into and 4% less likely to crack when you dont want them to.

Now were talking! Cleared some trees added the new pets to the water hole moved the trained ones to a healthier yet macabre one, then.

Rock Carving lv 5 (0/1600) Rocks will be 15% easier to carve and 20% less likely to crack when you dont want them to, your carvings will be of 2% higher quality.

Huh bonus was unexpected but I'll take it!

Heading back to camp I stuffed myself with worms again then started drilling the next layer for my shelter into the wall, it felt so much easier, the progress may not have been much faster but it was very satisfing to finish another notch on either side. Then I laid down and went to sleep, waking up in my bed I felt drowsy and absentmindedly opened my phone and the app, I came to my senses looking at the quest log. "Oh!!!"
