Arakna turned to Elle. Elle tensed up and closed her eyes. She'd never encountered a halfbreed acting violent, but it was terrifying. She'd watched Arakna enjoying tearing apart this demon. What was she going to do to her? She heard Arakna walking towards her. She began trembling, unable to move. She could feel tears starting to come down her cold cheeks. She was scared, was Arakna truly evil and going to kill her like that demon?
She heard Arakna's steps stop in front of her.
"Please, don't kill me." Elle said shakily.
She felt something on her cheek, when she opened her eyes. Arakna's eyes were no longer red, she was wiping Elle's tears. Elle could tell Arakna was studying her face in confusion.
"Arakna?"
"Why are you crying?"
Elle took a step back, "I'm afraid of you."
Arakna stayed quiet then sighed. She started walking back to where the demon lay. She looked at the demon, but knew he wasn't dead. Near dead indeed, but it was hard to kill their kind. She lifted his ragged body and opened her wings. She glared at Elle, "Have you ever dealt with demons?"
Elle shook her head.
"What do you think a demon would do to you or Ian?"
Elle looked at Arakna. Something about that seemed to make Arakna's face look sad. Just with that line, she watched Arakna fly in the air with the demon and fly away.
Elle fell on her knees and cried. She felt afraid, but knew that even though Arakna seemed distant, she wouldn't harm them. Regardless, seeing Arakna like that was something she'd never seen before. It was dark, very dark. Arakna wasn't evil, she felt it in her heart. She stood up and started walking slowly to the cottage where she told Ian to stay. Arakna had woken both of them up and here Elle was worried about Arakna. Elle shook her head, but sadly smiled because she knew Arakna was alright.
Ian ran out the doorway, "Mom!"
"Get back inside, it's cold!"
Ian peeked around, "Where's Arakna?"
Elle patted his shoulder, "She's fine, but mom needs to talk to her about some stuff. Now let's get inside."
"You're not going to kick her out are you?" Ian said with concern in his voice.
Elle kneeled down, "It's adult talk okay? When I talk to her, I want you to play outside. Until then, let's get back to bed."
Elle and Ian walked back in. She grabbed her lit up candle by the doorway and walked into the bedroom with Ian's small 'pitter patters'. Ian hopped into bed and Elle followed. She couldn't sleep that night. She stared at the ceiling thinking about Arakna.
Arakna has seemed so confusing, Elle thought. Almost as if watching a child who couldn't control their feelings. Elle paused in thought, wait. Do angels 'feel'? Do they have emotions like humans? Do demons feel? What does that mean for a halfbreed? Does that possibly mean angels feel some emotions, but not all?
Elle tossed around in bed. She was pretty sure she was figuring out why Arakna seemed emotionally distant and socially awkward, but she needed confirmation. Why did she even care about this halfbreed? She wondered. Tomorrow, she'll get some answers.
