Chapter 8 - Chapter 7: Having to Leave

Weeks had gone by and things were progressing, but Arakna was still slow to open up about the person she was. Elle has seen many good qualities in Arakna. No matter how awkward Arakna was with humans, Elle could see she was trying to "understand us humans." Elle smiled lightly in the thought of that.

Arakna came up to Elle, "I must speak with you."

"Oh? What about?"

Arakna looked around for Ian, "I will have to leave soon."

Elle frowned, "Now? Why?"

Arakna shifted her eyes feeling uneasy, "Do you remember that demon?"

"That one you killed?"

"I never killed him. I left that night and tied him up to a tree."

"You tied him up to a tree?! This whole time!" Elle put her hands on top of her head in disbelief.

"I felt that if I finished him off after you knew he survived you'd be upset."

Elle shook her head, "Take me to him this instant."

"He wants to kill your kind."

"I don't care, this is wrong."

Arakna sighed. Why did Elle want to save someone who wanted to murder her and Ian.

"Humans." Arakna said out loud to herself.

"That's right, I am human. Now let's go. Oh wait." She looked around, "Ian!" She yelled inside her small cottage. Ian peeked around, his big brown eyes looking at her, "Yes mom?"

Elle smiled, "I need you to stay home for a bit by yourself. Can you stay inside until I come back?"

"-But I don't want to stay home by myself." Ian whined.

"Please, it won't take long."

"No, I don't want to." He ran over to Arakna and clung to her leg.

Arakna shook her head and picked up Ian.

"We are not taking him." Elle stated.

"I am not waiting." Arakna replied, grabbing Elle too.

"What are you doing?" Elle asked trying to push away.

"I'm carrying you, because I have to fly."

"You can't carry me! I'm heavy."

"Halfbreed, demon, or angel, we have more strength than you humans."

"But, I don't want to fly!"

Arakna ignored her, leaping into the hair, spreading her silver wings out. Elle shut her eyes tightly, but could hear Arakna's wings flapping.

Ian, on the other hand, was yelling in excitement.

"Our house looks so small! Look mom!" He yelled.

Elle shook her head, covering her hands over her face. Then she curiously peeked through an opening between her fingers and glanced down. Oh geez, they were high. She wrapped her arms around Arakna real tight and in a short moment saw Arakna smirking. That's the closest thing to a smile she had seen, she thought.

Off they flew, flying through the hair, heading to the direction of the demon.

Arakna landed, putting down Elle and Ian gently. Elle ran behind a bush and started to vomit.

"Eww! Mom!" Ian said with a little giggle.

Arakna leaned up against a tree, looking up at the sky. It was only afternoon. Should she leave tonight or tomorrow morning? she thought. Elle wiped her mouth, appearing from behind the victimized bush.

"Done?" Arakna asked.

"I think so, I just feel very dizzy. I'll be fine." She said stumbling.

Arakna grabbed her arm, supporting her.

"Thank you." Elle said.

"This way."

They walked a little way when Elle started to see some red amongst all the green. As they walked closer, she saw the demon sitting on the ground, tied up. He look up at Elle with a look of disgust. His eyes were a piercing gold, his hair golden along with his eyes. Had he not been a demon, he'd of been handsome. Elle shook her head.

"What do you want?" The demon snickered at Arakna.

"Have you considered my proposition?" Arakna asked.

"What proposition?" Elle asked turning to Arakna.

"He's so amazing! Like a manly warrior!" Ian said touching his hair. The demon growled at Ian.

"Ian! Leave him alone!" Elle yelled.

His eyes shot back at Elle, "He's very disobedient. You should kill him."

"Pardon me?!" Elle asked shockingly.

"Can everyone stop?" Arakna asked in a angrily voice.

Everyone then looked at Arakna.

"I want you to drop your current master and pledge your loyalty to me."

The demon shook his head debating, "I remember."

"Wait, is that-" Elle started to say, but when Arakna glanced at her she immediately stopped.

"Have you considered?" Arakna asked.

"If I refuse?" He asked smugly.

"Then I will finish sending a message to your master." She said coldly.

The demon closed his eyes nodding as if having a debate in his head.

"What do I have to do?"

"Protect these humans."

The demon had disgust on his face, "Weak things deserve to die."

"You are weaker than me, should I kill you now?"

Elle grabbed Ian, "Come on, let's go."

"Mom!" Ian whined.

As they trailed off, Arakna kept staring at this demon. He was a low level demon, meaning he wasn't pure evil. He just preferred to do small bad things. If his master was looking for her, other demons would be as well. They would find themselves at Elle's. At least with this demon, they had some protection. If he pledged loyalty and if he feared Arakna, he wouldn't harm them.

"What makes you think you can trust me to not kill them?" The demon asked with a smile.

"I can trust that you want to live and not be ripped apart." Arakna said with her eyes glowing red.

The demon looked nervous, he didn't want to go through the same ordeal with Arakna. His master probably just assumed he was dead if he sent him to follow this strong halfbreed.

"It seems you need more time. I'll come back this evening. Your fate will be decided by your answer."

He bumped his head against the tree. Being so weak and low level, no one respects me he thought. He felt hatred in his heart, but he hated everyone. He hated other demons, humans, halfbreeds, and angels. He closed his eyes and by the time he opened his eyes, they were gone. How did this halfbreed expect him to protect these worthless humans? Humans were better off dead. God's worthless experiment he thought.
