Chapter 13 - Kid?

Horace looked around to find no one in the street as there were only he, himself and Arnia standing in the lonely street. He thus looked at Arnia with a questioning gaze which replied with a raised eyebrow.

He sighed and asked, "Why are you making the sounds of a kid? Well, don't answer. I don't even want to know anymore."

Arnia looked at him with her own questioning gaze and said, "What are you talking about? I did not make any sounds. I was silently following behind yo- Um I mean I was silently walking on my own route. Why would I even make any sounds?"

As they were involved in another 'verbal battle' they heard the sound of soft giggles and stopped talking instantly. They both turned their heads simultaneously and found no one on the side.

They parallelly moved their heads to bend them and saw that there was a stroller and a small baby was lying in it and watching them with his curious eyes.

He felt amused by watching Horace and Arnia fighting and giggled once again showing his two front teeth which were the only ones present in his entire little mouth.

Horace and Arnia once again simultaneously blinked their eyes comically looking at the alone child without any elder present around him.

They looked around once again to check if there was anyone else standing nearby to find no one. They looked back at the kid who was continuously giggling while wiggling his tiny hands and legs around in the air.

Horace and Arnia once again looked at each other and blinked multiple times. They wanted to think that this is a dream and not reality.

Even after blinking for a while, they could still listen to the baby's voice from the side and they both broke into cold sweat.

Horace being the 'mature' one among the duo cleared his throat and accepted the reality as he spoke, "I think we should take the baby to the police station. His parents would be worried already."

Arnia too came back to her senses and nodded her head, "Okay. Let us go then."

"Okay. Let us go." They both kept nodding their heads and repeating the same words multiple times but no one stepped forward to take the baby or hold the stroller.

Horace finally took a deep breath and asked, "Stop repeating the sentence. Why are you not taking the baby?"

Arnia looked at him with her confounded eyes as she asked, "Why am I the one taking the baby. You can take him too."

Horace spoke in a 'duh' tone, "Because you are a woman. You should know how to handle the baby right?"

Arnia immediately raged when she heard his words, "What do you mean by that? If I am a woman, then should I know how to handle a baby? Don't be a sexist, alright. Didn't you see me earlier? I am a trained girl. I am always tough and scares people everywhere. How can I handle a baby? Do you even think that is possible?" Though she had shouted in the start, by the end her voice slowly reduced and turned into the sound of a mosquito buzzing.

She seems ashamed and sad by the fact that she would always scare everyone around. Horace saw that and sighed. Now that he thinks about it, what she said is the truth too.

Just her first image is enough for him to confirm that she was a woman who had trained herself from a very young age. The kids who would train for their childhood were prone to many fights as they feel that it is their duty as trained kids to save the world from the bad.

Growing up in such an environment, even if they want to change later, it would already be late as everyone would have already been scared of her.

Can a person who is used to scaring everyone speak softly and play with a little kid? Instead they would be the first one to cry at the image of such a person.

Little babies are very sensitive to their surroundings. If they feel scared by any tiny thing, they would start crying. They would obviously cry at the sight of a scary person too, right?
