Chapter 1 - Nightmare

Darkness shrouded the room which was the current location of Reigner, the eighteen years old student who was on his last school year. The young man had been visiting this room for the whole month.

It was a nightmare.

The nightmare so vivid he could move on his own and hear the sound of his breathing clearly. If it was only a dream, then Reigner would be ecstatic to achieve such a nice ability. The dreams are mostly nice and even fulfill the wishes impossible to satisfy in real life.

But this was a nightmare.

[I feel it.]

"I know... I know, you asshole."

Reigner locked his eyes on the monster which was the origin of the nightmare. The monster was at least four-meter tall and shrouded in the darkness, his outline could be only seen. His eyes were blank and the edge of his eyes stretched all the way to his ears.

It was a quite frightening sight.

Its craned neck slightly tilted to the side, then he smiled. His mouth was also white and its edges stretched like tree's branches to its chin. That smile and the words of his were already something that Reigner made a note of.

[The World Hope is coming with big steps.]

"And what is that world hope?"

This question was also something frequently asked. Its smile deepened, then the monster's slouched back trembled! He dove forth to assail Reigner whose arms were already raised. In his whole life, Reigner had fought only in his childhood.

His moves were awkward when he first swung his fist in the nightmare. However, Reigner gained some moves after consecutive battles in the nightmare... He felt like he is putting more weight, thus, strength into his fists.

But calling it a battle would be far-fetched.

"Ugh!"

The monster's arms were like blades. The wide, board and sharp blades that lopped off Reigner's arm effortlessly. It was as if Reigner's body was like a paper, standing on its whim. The white smile widened and following that was constant and fast-paced attacks that cut Reigner's body into meat pieces.

All while his consciousness stood clear.

-

"Fuck! Fuck! Fuck!"

Reigner woke up, his body soaked in his sweat. His breathing was ragged and so his eyes narrowed. The dark circles were below his pupils indicating how much impact the nightmares had left on his life.

He swore loudly, then hit the bed a few times, but the wet blanket from his perspiration just simmered his anger. In the end, he raised his body from the bed, then threw his t-shirt aside.

Staggering to the bathroom, Reigner felt so enervated it was painful.

The nightmares had been constantly haunting him for the whole month. At first, Reigner cried like a little girl when his arm got cut off, then day by day, his resistance somehow increased. Still, it was not something he possibly could get used to just like that.

His life had been affected and what Reigner sought was just home. A home where he lives mostly alone.

"What the hell is this world hope? He was sounding so ecstatic today... Tsk."

It was just a vivid nightmare yet Reigner mumbled to himself as if something in real life was going to happen... He found it childish, then quickly put his thoughts aside. After he spat to the washbin, his morning routine had been completed.

All clean and ready to go, Reigner opened the windows in his room, then just left the house with anger still boiling within him. It was not evident on his face though, the dark circles masking all his emotions with fatigue.

Just like he found the incoming 'World Hope' childish, Reigner was also thinking of his nightmares as childish subjects to talk about. When his friends and teachers asked about his well-being, Reigner just made a bitter smile, and flawlessly avoided the topic.

"Morning."

"Morning."

It was so early in the morning that the soul couldn't be seen on the street. The tired from his nightmares man just sat down on the stop, then waited for the bus which should arrive in around an hour.

Reigner was not alone though.

Next to him was his classmate, the young lady who was his peer. She exuded already a maturity and the last test of their class was as if the last trial before the blossom of her maturity. The lady's straight back and the book on her knees were Reigner's everyday soothing sight.

He was looking like a drunkard in comparison.

"If you need to visit a hospital, then I can accompany you."

"No need, but thanks."

Her name was Sylvie and her head was always in the books. She paid a lot of attention to the books and sought the best grades no matter what subject. So when Reigner heard her words, he let out a faint smile and thanked as brightly as he could.

"Your presence is enough to heal me."

"Sure."

If she is willing to give up her school day for him, then his looks truly must be sickening. Reigner rubbed his eyes, then took out his cell phone. He clicked on one of the bank apps and looked at his savings.

There was a huge amount of money saved, but it was all the money Reigner had gathered with his job. Looking at the savings, Reigner let out a relieved sigh, then turned his attention to Sylvie.

"If you want to accompany me, then you can do it after school. How about we go on a date?"

"I have heard about your game servers, Reigner. This is not permanent work, so you better study instead of going on dates."

"Just say 'no' next time."

"I will."

Reigner's game servers were lately providing him with a lot of income and it became one of the things he has taken a huge liking to. It was a pretty lucrative activity.

The amount of time he usually spent outside diminished to the point where his friends could only see him either in the school or at the weekends.

But lately, the nightmares began and so Reigner cut himself thoroughly from the social life.

"People like nostalgia, so just by having old games' engine, I can profit. Then, I create new items and add something from myself spicing up the project."

"..."

"If properly maintained, then I should be able to live comfortably for the rest of my life. I also need to look out for the trends, then I am set... Only if that..."

"Only if?"

"Nothing."
