Chapter 14 - Crying Baby

Arnia is one such person. She had tried going near kids but it always resulted in a single outcome; The baby being crying at the sight of her.

By repeating this scene so many times, she had already lost her interest in going near the kids. Horace understood that this has to be the case with her and nodded his head.

She then looked at Horace and said, "Now you should take the kid." She has always been used to giving orders and she continued doing so.

She had never once thought that she was talking to a total stranger about whom she doesn't know anything including his name.

Horace looked at her blankly and said, "Do I look like a man who can take care of babies?" Arnia looked at his weak posture from top to bottom seriously and nodded her head as an answer.

Being weak and frail from every direction, anyone would think he is more feminine than was manly. How can he not suit for carrying a baby with such soft features?

Horace's face fell instantly at her rude remarks but he also accepted her answer. In fact he looks like a man who could carry a baby. But in fact he doesn't suit carrying one not because of his looks but his introverted character.

How could a man who had long forgotten how to handle a conversation with a stranger be suitable to carry a baby and play with it?

His awkward face is enough for Arnia to understand his thoughts and as a result she simply sighed and shook her head. Apparently both of them suck at one thing or the other making them unable to handle a small baby who was still looking at them with its eyes wide open with curiosity about them.

Both of them looked at each other and placed a hand on either side of the stroller and started pushing it simultaneously. No words or instructions between them as they both decided to share this first experience with each other and share equal responsibility and burden.

As the stroller moved, the baby started giggling and babbled some incoherent words which the duo did not understand. But they were happy that the baby was happy and was not making any trouble.

Arnia opened her lips and spoke, "Thank God, he is not crying or anything. I can not handle a crying baby in my life."

Horace nodded his head in approval but as soon as he started nodding, the baby started crying as if on cue. Maybe the baby thought that they were being sad because he did not cry or whatever he had thought, both the adults were shocked and looked at each other with frown on their eyebrows.

They stopped in their place and went forward to stand in front of the stroller and knelt down on the ground to look at the baby.

The big round eyes that were curious until now were now scrunched up and filled with water as the fair cheeks turned red. In panic, Arnia took the baby into her hands and started shaking the baby while awkwardly speaking, "Hey baby. Please don't cry, okay? Well, don't cry. If you stop crying I will give you some candy. Stop crying now. Hehe." Every word she spoke had a hint of awkwardness making her look more funny than when she would actually try to be funny.

Horace looked at her and sighed while Arnia looked at him ashamed as if to say that she really can not handle a baby and this is the proof for her previous words.

He sighed and opened his arms signalling her to give the baby to him. Without waiting for any extra second, Arnia placed the baby in his hands and gave a sigh of relief as if she had just got rid of a bomb from her hands.

Horace was once again dumbfounded by her reaction and shook his head helplessly. As he had thought, this woman was strange. She is just proving his point to himself by using various scenarios.

He took the baby and slowly rocked his body while patting its back as softly as he could. Being the silent man that he was, he did not utter a single word and softly coaxed the baby to stop crying.

Arnia was shocked by his potential and gave a silent thumbs up using both her hands without making any sound as she was scared that her voice would once again make the baby cry.
