As Sharrie stared her death in the face her vision was blocked. Cerene was standing in front of her, face to face with the giant rabbit. Sharrie was frozen with shock. She couldn't process what was happening. Cerene was there, that was all that mattered. She was their to save her. If it wasn't for her, she would have died.... The thoughts ran through Sharrie's head as she tuned out the rest of the world.
"Stop." Cerene said as she stood in front of Sharrie.
Arms open wide, she was determined to not let her best friend get hurt. Hell, she was determined to save her sister. Sharrie meant the world to her. She couldn't just allow her to be hurt. The rabbit knealed down to Cerene's feet as if it was obeying it's master. Cerene stood still observing the situation and the rabbit that was facing her. It's eyes full of innocence as they looked up at her lovingly. She slowly reached her hand down towards the rabbits' head. She began to pet it's head as it sighed contently. It was almost as if the rabbit had been searching for some kind of love and affection for a long time. A knock was heard on the door and the rabbit hopped away. Cerene dropped to her knees and a tear came down her cheek. She was terrfied, it took all that she had to be brave. Sharrie wrapped her arms around Cerene from behind.
"Are you okay?" She asked hugging her close.
"Yeah..." Cerene said quietly.
She leaned her head into Sharrie and the pair just sat there recollecting themselves. Meanwhile the knock heard earlier had come from Heather. She came in to give him his dinner.
"Lord Fluffington." Heather called out as the rabbit bounced in her direction. "There you are. I picked some fresh food from the patch for you." Heather stated before setting the bowl down and watching the rabbit eat. She went around to tidy up a few things and noticed the girls huddled over together in a corner. "Mistress Cerene and Sharrie? What are you doing in here it's dangerous!" She whispered to the girls as she ran over to them.
"It's okay. He stopped attacking when he smelled me." Cerene explained as she stood to her feet.
"Let's get the two of you out of her. I'm sure your parents would love to hear about this. I can only imagine that-"
"Can we not tell them please?" Cerene interupted
"Yeah, no offense Ms. Heather, but I don't think they would be too happy about what happened here tonight." Sharrie added
"I understand." That was what Heather said, but she knew that they already knew. They were very connected to their house. Everything that went on in it, they knew. The house was it's own being. It communicated and had feelings just as if it was a person. The house kept tabs on things to make sure everyone and everything in it stayed safe. It also operated as a shield.
As the trio left from inside of Lord Fluffington's den, the girls were doing a bit of a recap. Cerene was still terrified. She was in her head about not being able to protect the two of them, what could have happened, what would have happened, and all of the in between possiblities. Her mind was racing and nothing could quell it. Cerene was torn inside. Sharrie's mind was also constantly wandering. There was obviously a reason that Cerene wasn't attacked. But Sharrie couldn't figure out why. DId she already come here once and that's why it knows her? So that means that she had everything that I didn't have and left it!
"Alright young Mistress's, please enjoy your rest." Heather said as she turned around and went back down the steps.
"Sharrie, wanna bunk together tonight?"
"Oh my goodness, yes! I'm so glad you asked." Sharrie laughed. "I didn't want to admit it, but I don't want to sleep alone after something like that."
Cerene smiled and headed into Sharrie's room. She went and climbed in Sharrie's bed and snuggled underneath the covers.
"Wait for me, Rene!" Sharrie followed Cerene into the room and climbed in the bed behind her. She huddled underneath the blanket as well. They turned towards one another hashing out what had just happened. They didn't understand it, but everytime they turned around the house seemed more and more peculiar. That included their parents! Nothing seemed to make sense. Neither of them had expected to see... that giant rabbit. Let alone if they could even get that big! It was all a big mystery. They were full of nothing but questions, and no answers. They started talking more about their parents and the weird things that had been happening to them. Sharrie decided to share something that she saw the other day in the kitchen. Appearently Cerene wasn't the only one who had been seeing odd things.
"I know! I couldn't believe it. I thought I had peed, but it was actualy water. How the heck can a house have a mini lake thing!? I got some weird watch to. I still don't really understand what it does though. Cerene finished explaining about her experience.
"Mine wasn't that bad. But the other day, I swore I saw our father figure walk through a wall. He was in the hallway on the second floor, he was reading a book while walking. He never looked up!"
"Never?" Asked Cerene.
"Not even once!" Sharrie replied. "It was like he could see through the book, but that wasn't the weird part, I heard something drop so i turned to look, and I didn't see anything. When I turned back towards him, he wasn't even there!"
"Nooooo. You're kidding?" Cerene exclaimed.
"Not even a bit! But like, I looked down, and he was in the kitchen!"
Cerene gasped.
"I know right! He couldn't have gotten down all of those steps that fast! It's impossible! He would have to float and turn invisible or something!"
"Yeah, something weird is definetly going on. Wanna go snooping around tomorrow?" Cerene asked.
"Of course! Something clearly wants us too!" Sharrie giggled.
The girls continued and as if the parents read their minds. There they were, knocking on the door.
"Girls, may we come in? We would like to read you both a story."
Vay and Zyn read their daughters a story and before they knew it, they were fast asleep. They kissed their daughters on their heads and wished them sweet dreams and they left the room.
"Should we stop them?" Zyn asked her husband
"No, a little madness never hurt anyone." Her husband replied
Zyn and Vay went and prepared for their girls to go snooping around tomorrow. It would surely be an interesting day for them, and their parents.
