The night that she was left on the streets, Eva began to dream about a past she doesn't remember. Dreams of Christmas and a theme park; school and love. And when she saw Leo in her dreams, she jolted awake. Unable to go back to sleep, she wandered the streets until she stumbled across a park. She sat on a swing and watched the stars hopelessly. "God…" Eva began to pray. "I once had so much…and now, I lost everything." She said as tears streamed down her face. "Are you punishing me…? If not; then please, I beg you…send me a guardian angel."
Suddenly, Eva heard a voice. Only this time, it was a single voice. And it made her feel warm, calm, serene, secure. "Eva." The voice said. "That voice…it sounds…so familiar." Eva thought. "It's me. Leo." "Leo?" Eva asked. She paused. "As in, my imaginary friend?" She asked doubtfully. "I was never imaginary. You are dreaming right now." "Dreaming?" "Yes. Don't you find it odd that life made sense until after you left the hospital?" Leo asked. "That daze…could it be…?" Eva marveled. Then, all of a sudden, Eva felt a surge of anger overcome her. "You abandoned me, didn't you? You were supposed to have been my guardian angel, but instead you left me in this hell." Eva thought, darkly. "I would never abandon you, Eva." Leo said sadly. "Then why have you left me here?!" She asked angrily. "Because you are being tested." He replied. "Guardian angels don't test, they help!" "I'm not an angel, Eva. I'm God." "W-what?!" Eva was horrified. "You mean…'God,' God? This is who you were all along?!" Eva felt a bit disorientated. Then she said, "Wait, why should I believe you're God and not some annoying spirit?" Eva asked. "Can mere mortals perform miracles?" "What miracle?" Eva laughed. "The only miracle that ever happened to me is that I'm still sane." Eva jumped off the swing. "You will never be God to me as long as I'm in this hell!" Eva said as she stormed off.
Eva was so flustered that she went back to the orphanage. "I'm here to turn myself in." Eva told the security guard. "Heh. The rebellious life wasn't as fun as you thought it'd be, huh? Wait right here." Moments later, the head of staff approached Eva. "You are in serious trouble young lady…" She said sternly. "I'm ready to accept the consequences." Eva said boldly. Eva was sent to the office and was scolded for setting off the alarm and helping Alice escape. "However." She said. "We will forgive you this time. But if something like this should ever happen again, you'll be sent to another orphanage. Is that understood?" "Yes." Eva said. "Now, as punishment, you will not be able to participate in any recreational activities for a month. You will go straight to your room after meals and class. That should give you enough time to think." Eva went straight to her room and took a much needed shower. She collapsed in her bed and fell right to sleep.
Eva woke up early enough the next morning to watch some TV. She turned it on the news and watched from her bed. "Heh. My illness is getting way out of hand. Leo is dead. Or rather, he never existed in the first place…" Eva mumbled. "And some things just never exist in the first place." The news reporter said. "Huh?" Eva sat up. "What just happened? Did he repeat after me?" Eva wondered. "Heh heh, and it looks like I'll do a lot of repeating in the future." Eva freaked out and left her room. "Wha! I forgot to change!" Eva said as she ran back in to put on her outfit. As she headed towards the dining hall for breakfast, she saw a girl wear a shirt that had dogs on it that looked just like Spud and Tater. "What's going on?" Eva wondered. She sat down with her plate of food and began to eat. "I need to talk to someone." Eva concluded.
After breakfast, Eva went to the nurses office. She told the nurse she wasn't feeling well and needed to see a Doctor. "Is your Schizophrenia acting up?" She asked. "I think so, and it's really starting to scare me." Eva replied. "Don't worry, we'll call a Doctor right away." She assured Eva. When the Doctor arrived, he checked her vitals and her temperature. "Everything seems normal. Have you been taking your medications?" He asked. "Yes. And for some reason my symptoms came back with a vengeance!" "Well, unfortunately Eva, there's nothing I can do for you. You're already taking the highest doses possible." "Are…you sure what I'm experiencing isn't real?" Eva asked curiously. "Absolutely. But, if you want to be sure for yourself, then test your experiences. It's impossible for two people to hallucinate the same thing, so, if you can manage to see something strange along with someone else, I'd say you'd have to speak to a psychic instead of a Doctor!" He said jokingly. But Eva didn't take it as a joke.
Eva got permission to watch the girl's soccer team play, so long as she didn't participate. "I've got to solve this mystery once and for all! Am I sick, or is God really talking to me?" Eva thought. "But how…? I'm not allowed to play, so how am I going to get anyone's attention?" Suddenly, a girl from the soccer team went to get a drink of water. She sat a few feet from Eva. "Not playing…?" Eva asked. "Oh, just taking a break. Why don't you come and join us?" She asked. "I can't. I'm banned from anything fun for a while." Eva said. "Why? Wait. Are you one of the girls that set off the fire alarm and escaped the other day?" "Yeah…" Eva said, a bit embarrassed. The girl smiled. "Well, aren't you the bravest girl at the orphanage? Where's that other girl?" "With her boyfriend." Eva said. The girl paused, then asked, "What made you come back?" "Well, let's just say, I prefer it here a lot more than out there." Eva said. "Rough world, huh?" She laughed. Eva smiled. "Well, I better go before a black cat crosses paths with me and gives me even more bad luck." Eva joked as she got up. Suddenly, they watched as a black cat passed them by. "Have..there always been cats around here?" Eva asked nervously. "No, that's the first one I've seen since I got here. And that was 10 years ago. Boy, you are unlucky, huh?" She laughed. Eva, who was not as amused, panicked and ran off. "Hey! I was kidding!"
"A Doctor can't solve this for me, now! I need to see a spiritualist. A psychic!" Eva thought as she ran to the recreational office. "Hey!" Eva said as she ran in the office. "Oh, my! You scared me!" The staff lady said. "Oh, sorry." "No worries, what can I do for you?" She asked. Eva composed herself and said, "I am a spiritualist. I'm new here and was wondering if there were any spiritual teachers here." Eva asked plainly. "I'm sorry dear, but all we have is a non-denominational preacher." The staff lady said. "Well, I'm not looking for a preacher, I'm looking for a spiritualist. Is there any way meetings can be arranged for me to fulfill my spiritual needs?" Eva asked. "Well, we certainly respect all beliefs here at this orphanage. So I don't see why something can't be arranged. I'll look into it and see if we can't get you to a meeting by tomorrow." "Oh, thank you! Thank you so much!" Eva said as she hugged her. "You must be having it rough." The staff lady said. "You have no idea…" Eva replied. Eva decided to wait until tomorrow to get the help she needed. In the meantime, she had to deal with one unsettling synchronicity after another.
