Eva awoke to the smell of freshly baked bread. Her parents prepared her a modest, yet lovely breakfast. Eva ate with a discontented look. "What's wrong, Eva?" Bertha asked. Eva clenched her fists and slammed them on the table. "This is all a mistake!" Eva blurted out. "What?" Craig and Bertha asked. "I just…don't think I love Leo." They were in shock at Eva's words. "Look. I started out thinking that I did! But that was before Leo started acting like he's God!" "But…he is!" Craig said rather confused. "Well, that doesn't matter to me anymore. If I don't even have the freedom to do what I want here, then it's not worth being Queen!" "What exactly is Leo not letting you do?" Bertha asked curiously. "Well, apparently he's not letting me take my dogs home!" "We don't know that for sure, dear. We just don't think it's a good idea for now. I'm sure Leo is eager to spend some time alone with you." Craig assured her. "Well, the idea of that is becoming more and more uncomfortable everyday." Eva said. "Why?" Bertha asked. "Because…I don't want to be intimate…" Eva blushed. "You two…didn't consummate the marriage?!" Bertha asked. "No, we didn't." Eva said. "But Eva…he's your husband, and-" "That's enough!" Eva shouted, becoming a bit angry. "I don't have it in me, I just can't." "Just give it some time, Eva." Bertha said. "No! If I can't be intimate with a guy, what makes you think I can be intimate with a God? I just—can't!" Eva said running out the door. "Eva!" Craig and Bertha cried out. Eva ran quickly in the forest and fell to her knees. "This is just perfect…" Eva began. "All I ever wanted to be was a kid for life. And now, I'm being forced into an adulthood that I never asked for!" A wind shook the trees around her. "I don't like it here. Maybe…" Eva said as her eyes widened. "Maybe there's a good reason why people chose the land of darkness! A world with no rules?" Eva smiled. "Then, I could truly do whatever I want. And be whoever I want to be!" Eva rose to her feet. Her expression looked sinister. "Forget this place! I'm going to a world of my own!" Eva said, running. She ran for hours until she arrived to the world's portal. She took a deep breath, and uttered, "Take me to the world of darkness!" The doors opened slowly and a chilling air flowed against Eva. She looked back one last time. "Goodbye." Eva said as she walked through the portal. And the doors shut. As hours turned into days, Leo left his home and went to Craig and Bertha's house. They saw a blazing light through the door cracks and opened the door. "Leo!" They exclaimed as they bowed. "Rise." Leo said. "May I come in?" Leo asked solemnly. "Of course." They said in unison, letting him in. As they sat at the table, Bertha asked, "Wait, where's Eva?" "That's what I wanted to talk to you about." Leo began. Craig and Bertha fell silent. "She ran away." Leo said. "What?!" They exclaimed. "My Lord, but how can she run away? Everywhere is Paradise." Craig asked. "Not everywhere." Leo said. "You…mean…" "Yes. She has entered the world of darkness." Craig and Bertha let out a mournful cry. "I knew something was wrong with her." Bertha wept. "If only we let you know about her behavior, then surely this never would have happened." Craig added. "Don't despair. It's not as if I didn't see this coming." Leo said. "Of course. But, if I may ask, why did you let her go?" Craig asked. "Because, there is still so much for her to learn." "I would have thought her experiences in that nightmare would have taught her…" Bertha began. "Sometimes, it takes more than a nightmare, to see the light." Leo said. When Eva stepped through the portal, it was pitch black. And cold. She was flying through a tunnel, and a dark world began to manifest. When she landed, she was alone. She sat down and looked up at the stars. "Huh. It's night time. That's strange, it was just day in Paradise." After a while of sitting in the shivering cold, she stood back up. "I wonder if Kiersten's dad's here. If I can find him, maybe I can convince him to come see Kiersten in Paradise, and…" Eva paused. "Wait, what am I saying?…I can't even convince myself to go back to Paradise. So how am I going to convince him?" Eva mumbled with an irritable tone. "Well, then, maybe at least I can find out why he didn't choose Paradise. Maybe then I'll understand why my decision is justified. Because I still feel a little…confused…" Eva shook her head, then said, "No. It makes perfect sense! Freedom is far more valuable than luxury!" Eva marched on through the thicket to see if there was any way off finding him. When she emerged from some bushes, she found herself in a city. It looked like the nightlife of any ordinary city on earth. "What? This isn't hell?" Eva asked aloud, rather confused. "Sure it is!" Said a drunken man who was approaching her. "W-what do you mean? You look rather happy to me…" Eva said as he stood before her, taking another sip from his bottle. "I'm…happy." The man said as he casually reassured her, putting his hand on her shoulder. "But…it's night time all the time here!" He said, stumbling a bit. "What?!" Eva was shocked. "Yep! This is the punishment we get for living our own truth…" "But, that's not fair! Why did Leo have to make this world literally dark? I thought it was just a metaphor." Eva said. "Nope! But, hey, it's still pretty fun around here!" The man said as he walked with her to the city. "Really? What is there to do?" Eva asked curiously. "Everything that there was to do on earth, basically. We just have to deal with this blasted darkness is all!" The drunken man shouted aloud, where he got some applause on the streets. "I don't get Leo…" Eva mumbled. "Heh, who does?" "This guy doesn't seem to realize who I am. Or rather, who Leo made me. I wonder if this is Leo's way of "protecting" me." Eva thought as she scoffed. "Hey pretty lady! Let's get a drink at this bar, here! You seem rather confused so you must be new here, then. I'll fill you in." "Um, well, actually…I was hoping to find a man named mister L-" "Good luck finding anyone in the dark!" The man said dragging her in. "Well, I guess I can still ask around for information from other people. Can't hurt…" Eva said as she agreed to walk in.
