Chereads / I’m A Goddess?! / Chapter 25 - The World’s End

Chapter 25 - The World’s End

Sometimes, reality can be a dream. And a dream can become reality. In the real world, very few people were left alive. It was as hot as an oven outside and there was nothing left. Everyone has exhausted the last of their resources and those that were still alive were frail and lethargic. Back at Kiersten's place, only she and Lisa were still alive. But barely. Kiersten placed a blanket over each of her parents and watched the night sky with Lisa in her backyard. "This is it…" Kiersten said in a mumble. "What…do you mean?" Lisa asked softly. "I can't…stay awake anymore…" Kiersten said as her eyes closed. "No…Kiersten. Don't die…don't leave me…" Lisa said as she gathered enough strength to hold her. "See you…on the other side…" Kiersten said with her last breath. Lisa would've wept, but she couldn't make any tears. She looked up. "Eva…Leo…where are you?" Lisa said hopelessly.

Suddenly, the night sky lit up. Every creature that ever lived, rather they were dead or alive, rose to the heavens. Lisa found herself gently floating upwards. She felt a cool breeze, and life was restored to her. "Huh?" Lisa said as she looked down. Already being a few hundred feet in the air, she saw the earth crack and crumble. A seemingly infinite number of earthquakes caused the earth to implode. "Pretty neat, huh?" Lisa heard a voice say. She looked up and just under the moon, she saw Kiersten. "Kiersten! You're alive! Wait, or is it that I'm dead?" Lisa asked. "No! Eva must have accomplished her mission! She made it!" Kiersten exclaimed. Each living being was glowing and they looked like stars in the sky. When they were finally in outer space, the earth scattered like dust.

A heavenly mist appeared, and with it, a bright light that shown like the sun. Leo and Eva appeared before creation as King and Queen. As God and Goddess. Suddenly, two giant silver doors appeared before them in this ethereal realm. One opened and revealed darkness; a horrific dark evil that only the truly bitter and angry would even consider going through. The other door opened to reveal the purest, white light that anyone has ever seen. Love itself emanated from this light.

Leo began to speak in a voice that was both loud and soft at the same time. "Children of every age and generation; welcome." He began. "I am God. The God of your heart. The God that you have been seeking, or avoiding, this entire time." Then he turned to Eva. "And this is Mother Goddess; Eva, my bride." There was a lot of gasping and murmuring; especially from those that knew Eva. "Our real names are Dominus and Kalila. However, I will speak in familiar terms so that you may understand. As you may have guessed, Eva has just finished making the ultimate sacrifice and she has accomplished it very well. What you have just witnessed in Eva's experiences will be your own experiences if you choose to enter the world of darkness. Many are wondering who would prefer this world. The dark, bitter, angry, unforgiving and those who simply lack understanding. But of course, what most of you will choose, thanks to Eva, is this other portal. A world brimming with light and love. A never ending journey into the joys of eternity. There, everyday will be better than the last. Everyone will be given their own planet to call home, and their own soulmate to replenish it with. Now, choose this day which world you want to dwell in, to call home. But remember, those who hate me and would rather live in darkness must reside there for a thousand years before they get another opportunity to choose. And those who choose light, when you step through the portal, you will awaken to find yourself in your own planet, your own paradise and next to the one that was destined to be your soulmate. Now, choose!"

One by one, souls were passing through the portals. And it took hundreds of earthly years to take place. But in this realm, there was no time. So nobody noticed. Finally, Eva saw her family next in line. "You guys!" Eva said as she jumped off her throne. She ran as fast as she could towards them and embraced them. She began to weep. "Eva!" They all began to say. "I missed you guys so much! You have no idea how lost I felt! Promise you'll never leave me again!" "Don't cry, Eva. This is a happy ending." Bertha said as she dried a tear and hugged her. "Yes, nothing will ever separate us again, your Majesty." Craig said with a little bow. Eva laughed. "Well, we've been playing rock, paper, scissors our entire lives and it looks like you got me beat!" Miguel laughed. Eva hugged him. "I always knew I was better than you!" Eva joked. They began to laugh. As Eva gave Spud and Tater a big hug, Annabelle said, "It looks like it's our turn to choose! Let's go Miguel!" She said as she held his hand. "This is better than any wedding I could have ever imagined." Miguel smiled as they walked through the portal of light together.

"Eva, I have a confession to make." Craig began. "What is it, Dad?" Eva asked. "We always knew that you were a Goddess." Bertha said. "What? You did?" Eva was shocked. "Yes, well. You see, before you were born, the world was already in chaos. All the countries were at each other's throats and your mother and I went into hiding in our village in Spain." "The village, was a hiding spot?" Eva asked. "Yes, we were originally the King and Queen of Spain." Bertha said. "Wha-?!" Eva said. "But we chose not to get assassinated with the other leaders." Craig added. "And it was one night in the village that Leo appeared in our house, out of nowhere! We were frightened. But he told us who he was and that he had need of our services. He handed us a baby. And that baby was you." Bertha said as she wiped a tear from her eye. Craig wrapped an arm around Bertha and said, "He told us, 'This is my future bride. Please take very good care of her.' And in saying that, he disappeared! And I sincerely hope we lived up to our promises." Eva gave them a big hug and said, "Mom, Dad, you did more than keep your promise. I couldn't have asked for a better childhood!" "You know, we're not really your parents, right? In fact, it's the other way around. You and Leo are our parents." Craig said playfully. "I don't care, you'll always be my Mom and Dad!" Eva said as they laughed. "So, wait. That Dominus and Kalila story you always told me was a true one?" Eva asked bewildered. "Yes, to give you some sort of extra preparation for this day." Craig smiled. "Eva." They heard a voice say from behind. It was Leo. He was radiant like the sun and looked infinitely more handsome than he did on earth. "It's time to let them go." Leo said with a peaceful smile. "Alright." Eva smiled. "Goodbye." They said as they walked through the portal. "See you later." Eva said happily.

Leo looked sad. "What's wrong, Leo?" Eva asked. He embraced her passionately and said, "I'm so sorry for all the pain I caused you." Leo said as he began to weep. Eva looked sympathetic, but then patted his head saying, "Now, now. This is a happy ending!" She said with a smile. Leo laughed a bit and said, "Just like your mother, huh?" "Yup!" Eva said. "Eva." Leo began. "I'm so proud of you. And as alone as you have felt your entire life, I was always with you. From the cloaked man in your village, to Leo the school kid. It was me all along. I never left your side." "I understand that now." Eva said sweetly. "And, I hope you'll forgive me too." Eva said. "For what?" "For all the times I was angry at you and mocked you." "Think nothing of it. You may have always been a Goddess, but you were running on instinct since I erased your entire memory when you got here." Leo said softly. Tears began to fill Eva's eyes. "I love you. I always have." Eva said. "Then will you marry me?" Leo said romantically. "Of course!" Eva said as they kissed. And then she said, "I will marry you; again." They both just laughed.

As the last of them went through the portals, Kiersten was the very last in line. "Kiersten, why are you last?" Eva laughed. "Heh, I just wanted to let you know that I forgive you guys for killing me off!" The three of them laughed. "You're funny, Leo." Kiersten said. "What can I say? I guess I have a sense of humor after all." Leo said. "Bye!" Kiersten said as she gave them a group hug. "And give me a hot soulmate…" Kiersten joked. "You'll be pleasantly surprised." Leo smiled. And with that, Kiersten went through the portal, being the very last one to make their choice. "Are you ready, my love?" Leo asked. "Yes." Eva said excitedly. And with that, they stepped the portal of light together. And the doors were shut.
