Point of View (Leah)
"She? How do you know? I never told you..." Alexa said, backing away.
"I didn't do it on purpose, though. I'm sorry," I responded.
Alexa rolled her eyes, "I gotta go. I'm kind of tired, anyway."
"Ok... bye. I'll see you... later?" She walked away and I went over to where Azariah was taking a nap and sat in between the two of them.
For a second, Azariah woke up again, "Did you kiss her yet?"
I laughed nervously, "What? No."
"You should kiss her," Azariah said, laughing, "You obviously like her!"
"Your mind is confusing you, Azariah. Not all girls like each other."
Abel shrugged his shoulders, "I don't know, Leah. It kind of seems like you both like each other."
"Well, she's still a dark heart guardian, so, I should probably wait until she's not anymore."
"Oh, ok. Except, why did you make her run away?" Abel asked, laughing.
I gasped, "I didn't do it on purpose, I promise! I don't even remember saying that!"
"But you like her?" Azariah asked, leaning onto my shoulders.
I shrugged my shoulders, "I guess. But, I never really see anyone my age."
"But you didn't like me. So... ya, you shouldn't be so sad about all of this. You probably really like her," she said, wrapping her arm around my shoulders, "I wonder why I'm so tired..."
"Well, other than making Alexa mad at you, you did great!" Abel exclaimed, giving me a thumbs up.
"That's wonderful. I made her mad? Oh no, I'm gonna cry. Please don't tell Domiel and Zadkiel. They'll be so disappointed in me. They're so nice," I exclaimed, curling up into a ball.
"You guys should go find them," Abel said, walking over to Alexa's room.
I nodded, "Ya, ok." I kind of just left Azariah since she was asleep. I went into Kelly's room and saw Jenna, Kelly, and this boy with black hair. "We wanna go home, now."
"Fine. Let's go, Mordecai. That's Leah. Leah, this is Mordecai," Jenna said, smiling.
Kelly laughed, pointing at Jenna, "You're smiling, Jenna!"
"Whatever! I'm just happy, ok?" she said, grumbling to herself.
Mordecai turned to me, "It's nice to meet you, Leah."
"Well, it's nice to meet you, too, buddy," I replied, shaking his hand.
Point of View Change (Abel)
I walked over to Alexa's room and knocked on the door. I mean, I had to. She's the kid that's been staring at my best friends' daughter this whole time. The door opened, "Hey, Alexa."
"Abel, right? You're not here to freak me out, too, are you?" she asked, slightly laughing.
"And risk teaching things to the guardian of knowledge? No way," I replied, laughing.
"That's probably not how that works. Anyway, you're the guardian of Summer, right? I've heard of you. Ithuriel and Abel, Winter and Summer."
Confused, I asked, "How'd you know that?"
"I may not be the smartest person in the world, but she tells me things. Gossip is kind of her thing and she has no one else to gossip to. I even know everything about Leah, including things she doesn't know yet."
"Does knowledge know about you liking Leah? Or is that just everyone else?" I asked, laughing.
She got flustered, "Everyone knows already? Oh no..."
"It's totally fine, though. It's fine that everyone knows about it. I mean, it doesn't really matter. I'm just gonna go ahead and ask you the questions I had. How do you know about Leah? The only people who know are her parents."
"The bloodline. You actually just have to know who her birth parents are and then you'd know exactly. What. She. Is," she said, glaring.
"Anyway," I said, smiling now, "Leah's parents aren't here, but if they were they'd probably say something cool like, 'don't hurt her or I'll hurt you' ... something like that."
"Oh ya, of course, she has parents. I'm so dead," she replied, more scared now than mad.
Then Leah, Mordecai, Jenna, and Kelly came outside Kelly's room, "Abel, it's time to go."
I nodded, "Ok." Then I picked up Azariah and slung her over my shoulder, "Azariah, we're leaving."
"Ok... will there be fighting?" she asked, going limp.
"Nope."
"Ok, then, I won't be waking up and I don't think I can," she replied.
Before I left, I said, "Bye, Alexa."
We walked downstairs and Jenna said goodbye to Bob and Linda. I turned to Leah, "You should go talk to Alexa."
"Why would I do that?" she asked.
"Because you want to be her friend. Go ask her to be your friend," Azariah responded, half-awake, "Besides, if you don't wanna be her friend, you can always just ask her out. Or kiss her, that works too."
"Ok," she said, pretending to be excited, "I got this!"
Point of View Change (Leah)
Ya, I don't got this. Anyway, I walked up the stairs and went over to the room that read, 'Alexa.' I knocked on the door, "Alexa?"
After a moment, I heard, "Leah? What do you want?"
"Can I come in?"
"Ya, come in," she yelled, "Door's unlocked."
I opened the door, "This is so weird, but do you wanna be my friend?"
"You want to be my friend? Come on, there must be millions upon millions of people just waiting to for your best friend to die so they can be your new best friend. Or are you one of those people who just wants to be friends with everyone?" she asked, obviously mocking me.
"No way. If that were the case, I'd be severely failing. I only have three friends now and one of them died."
"Oh... ok. This is awkward. Fine, I'll be your best friend and make your week or whatever."
I smiled really wide, "You mean my whole year! Which is so much longer than yours, so, that's how you know how excited I am!"
"Wait, how many years is that in human years?"
"Twenty!"
She nodded, "Ok... well, then, please go. It's night time for me and I'm tired. Like, VERY tired."
"Oh... ok."
"Oh, wait, how old are you, anyway?"
"In Earth years, I'm 16. In heaven years, I'm 220," I replied, shrugging my shoulders.
Point of View Change (Azariah)
When we got home, it was the afternoon of the next day. So, we decided to go to Leah's house to tell scary stories. Mordecai went with us since he didn't really have anywhere else to go. Abel was really excited to see Ithuriel again, as was I. Leah told her parents all about Alexa and how she saw Zadkiel's old parents.
"Where's Mordecai gonna sleep? I mean, Jenna didn't even have anywhere to go and now we have another angel," I said, sitting down.
Mordecai's eyes sparkled with happiness, "I'm an angel now?!"
"Well," The big man said, appearing out of nowhere, "As much as I love hearing all of you talk, I have made a decision already. Jenna, Azariah, Mordecai, and Leah are all moving across the hallway."
"Now that that's settled, we should tell horror stories," Jenna said, smiling.
Mordecai started jumping up and down, despite sitting down, "I have a great story!! Can I tell it?!"
"Chill out, Mordecai!" Domiel said, sitting down next to Zadkiel on the couch, "You can tell your story. Abel and Ithuriel sat on the armchair and everyone else sat on the floor.
Mordecai nodded, "One day, in the darkness of the universe, a superbeing decided to make something... me. Then they realized I wasn't good enough, so they made The Empitness and stranded me there to die over and over again for the rest of my life."
Jenna looked at him in shock, "That was terrible. That was just... terrible, Mordecai. Whatever, we'll be working on that. I have a better story. One day, on Earth, there was a boy that died when he was about two. Sadly, the only thing anyone had to remember him by was the abandoned house down the road that his mother would always visit. Today, Chelsy and Amy went there on a dare. They slowly walked up to the door, but Amy could hear the faint sound of a baby... crying."
Mordecai interrupted, "The baby killed them, right?"
Jenna shook her head, "Whatever. Horror stories is obviously not working. What are Azariah and Leah the guardians of?"
Leah smiled, "Well, I know mine. I'm the guardian of love! What's Azariah's?"
"Nah... that's fine..." Ithuriel responded slowly.
But Jenna retorted, "We almost got killed because of her. I think we deserve to know."
"Fine. She's the guardian of the underdogs. The last guardian of the underdog went down in flames. Literally... Anyway, they were pretty powerful," Ithuriel responded.
Abel grinned, blurting out, "THAT'S WHY SHE WAS SLEEPING SO MUCH!"
"Really? I had to drag that wagon so much because she wasn't strong enough to handle her power?!" Jenna exclaimed, getting mad.
Leah laughed, "Jenna! You're so funny! You barely pulled the wagon! And, anyway, she's not that heavy."
"So I have a lot to live up to, huh?" I muttered.
"I guess..." Leah responded, wrapped her arm around my shoulders, "You don't have that much to worry about, though. You got us!"
Mordecai smiled, wrapping his arms around my shoulders, too, "Ya, you got us!"
Jenna slightly smiled, patting me on the forehead, "Yep."
"Whatever," I said, standing up. "I don't get this, ok? I'm supposed to just be this powerful angel and I'm supposed to be fine with it?"
Ithuriel, pretty frustrated, responded, "You're acting like this is a punishment. It's not anyone's fault that all the guardian angels of the underdog were more gifted. Demons, for centuries, have fought each other just so they could be the one to kill you. No one knows why, though. But, they always fought twice as hard for every demon that tried to kill them. But that also means they died at a fairly young age..."
I rolled my eyes, "Why do you have to make it worse? I didn't wanna know that!" I ran to my house and started packing up my stuff. At least I wouldn't have to pack later.
After a little bit, I heard, "Why'd you leave?"
Without looking behind me, I replied, "I'm sorry, Leah, but I'm not in the mood for being cheered up."
"Not Leah. Why'd you leave?" I looked behind me.
"Oh, Jenna... I just don't get it. Why do I get to be this strong angel when Abel, who's been here all his life, isn't even close to being an archangel? It's not fair."
She laughed, "Why are you so mad that you got in such a fortunate situation? You're probably gonna go down in history because of this and you're mad?"
"Ya, because I didn't do anything to get here. I'm a normal kid and normal things happen to me."
"You see things, Azariah. Don't think we didn't notice. Look, it doesn't matter who you are, it doesn't matter what you used to do. What's his face chose you and that's that."
I fell on my back, groaning, "But I don't want to! It's such a terrible profession and I'm never gonna experience all the things I could have. I haven't even had my first kiss! Now that's gone. It'll never happen. I'll die all alone and-"
She interrupted me, "But you have us, Azariah."
"But I'm not good enough for you."
"We need you, though. You're the leader of this band of misfits. We're the three musketeers," Jenna replied, kicking the top of my head.
"There's four of us, though."
"What do you mean? Oh, ya... Mordecai. I forgot that he's actually here. I mean, I never thought that it'd be possible!" Jenna exclaimed, slightly smiling.
I laughed, "Jenna, you're drooling!"
"No way. It's just like having a best friend in your head that you've never seen. Then, you actually get to see them. I've never seen Mordecai out of The Dark Heart Realm, which only ever exists in my head. It's just kind of awesome, you know?"
"No. I don't really have friends like that. Well, friends that aren't in heaven right now."
"Really? No friends from Earth?" Jenna asked, sitting next to me.
"Well, ya, but at the same time, not really. They weren't the best people and they all left me immediately. Anyway, I'm packing."
"And leave your new parents? We could get The big man to let you stay," Jenna said, nudging me shoulder with her elbow.
I frowned, "I don't wanna leave, but I have to." Then I grinned, "I am the leader of the four amigos."
She laughed, "Yes, indeed, you are."
"You don't laugh a lot, do you? Your laugh is kind of cute."
"Well, I've been saving it. You should feel lucky."
There was a moment of awkward silence, then I said, "Well, I'm done packing."
"Let's go get Leah and Mordecai. Leah still needs to pack up, after all," Jenna said, getting up.
I nodded, "Let's go."
We got to the living room and Jenna asked Leah and Mordecai, "We need to go pack Leah's stuff now."
"Before you go, we're gonna tell Leah about how we started dating. You can leave or stay. It'll probably be weird if you stay..." Zadkiel said, slightly frowning.
