1997 Words

Point of View (Shadrack)

"Oh my goodness gracious, get up, idiot," I heard him say as I lay still on the ground.

"What?" I asked, slowly moving, "I thought you killed me."

"You can't die here! Oh my gosh, are all of you dumb or is it just you? You're on the same side as us, so this is your territory, too! You haven't fallen from a tree and impaled yourself or something before?! Get out of here already!"

"FIne, fine, whatever," I said, walking towards the stairs.

"Ya, shut up!" he yelled as I started to walk up the stairs.

"NO! Never! I will never shut up anymore! You can't kill me! You know what, that black hole in the throne room is my new dad! I've been adopted! You're welcome!"

Point of View Change (Jenna)

"Thank goodness we're finally back! Where's Mordecai?" I asked, looking around.

"Probably back at the apartment," Leah commented.

"Oh, ok, I'm gonna run ahead for no reason at all," I replied, pointing behind me with my thumb. Then I turned around and ran as fast as I could to the apartment. I really just wanted to be home. I've never been away from Mordecai this long. I mean, he's my best friend and I miss him. I opened the door to the apartment, "Mordecai?"

"Jenna, you're back!" Mordecai exclaimed, turning to me as he smiled. Then he frowned, "Did you run here?"

I nodded, smiling, "Ya... I just missed you." Then the door opened, Leah and Azariah coming through, "I found Mordecai."

Leah frowned, "We still need to figure out how to get rid of the black hole. The big man needs to tell us what we need to do, but he left soon after you did, Jenna. We need to figure out what this thing is."

Then I randomly thought, "Maybe Coretha knows."

"Ya, wait, how do you know Coretha might know something?" Leah asked.

I shrugged my shoulders, "I don't know, It just popped in my head. Wait, are you scared of me?"

"How did you know that, Jenna? Is that even your name?" Mordecai asked, backing up.

"I don't know, Mordecai, just go talk to Coretha and ask her."

Azariah stepped forward, holding out her arm in front of Mordecai, "Tell me what I'm thinking,"

"What do you mean?" I asked, stepping back.

She covered her mouth, "Tell me everything I say."

"You... you hate me?" I asked, frowning.

She laughed, "No, I don't, but you can read people's minds. I think, anyway."

"How do you know?"

She shrugged, still laughing, "Superhero comics were Camilla's favorite. She always made me read them."

I laughed to myself, "OH, haha. WAIT, what?! I have a superpower?!"

"Yep," Azariah nodded, folding her arms over her stomach all smug like, "I'm cool, aren't I?"

"Ya, sure, whatever. That's not what I was talking about, though. I honestly don't know what's going on. Can't we just go ask Coretha about this whole thing?" I asked, putting my hands on my hips.

"Fine, let's go. We're still going to talk about this later, though," Azariah said, shaking her head in disapproval.

I nodded, "Ya, ok." Azariah walked out the door, dragging the three of us along with her. We walked over to headquarters and we saw The big man. "Where's Coretha? We need to ask her some questions about the black hole in heck."

"Ok, she's in room three," he answered, pointing to the row of offices he has. We walked down to the door with the number three on the door. We opened the door and the leather chair slowly turned around. On the chair was Coretha with her legs on the sides of the chair.

She smiled really wide, "I'm here! This has never happened before, but I love this! I'm needed!"

"That's so great, Coretha. Is this your office now?" Leah asked, smiling.

Coretha frowned, "Nope, I have to kind of cycle. It depends on the day. Usually, I don't get one, though. I'm aware you have a question and I have a story... kind of."

"Oh, ok. Our question is, what is the black hole? And, how do we stop it?" Leah asked,

Coretha laughed, "That one's easy, the universe must be unbalanced. Which means that it's The Nothingness?"

"So why is The Nothingness here?" Azariah asked, leaning forward.

"Probably because of Mordecai. He's reborn, which is bound to make the universe unbalanced. He was the bigger evil before.

"So, how's the universe gonna be balanced?"Mordecai asked wide-eyed.

Coretha shrugged her shoulders, "I have no idea. There's no way to tell what's gonna happen."

"Should we try to talk to it?" I asked, thinking we could just negotiate or something.

She shook her head really fast, "Nope. No can do, Jenna. The Nothingness doesn't do conversations."

"So, then, what do we do? I mean, we have to get The Nothingness to go away somehow," Azariah replied.

"You'll need to be prepared for anything. Especially to weaken her. She won't negotiate unless she's too weak to fight," Coretha said, rolling her self back up to the desk.

"That would be easy... except, I'm the only one who has powers so far. Mine's like, super useless, though. What am I gonna do? Expose their deepest darkest secrets?" I asked, laughing.

She grinned, "I have some tricks to show you. As for everyone else, I'll have to speed all of that up."

"So you're gonna train us to use our powers?" Azariah asked, grinning.

Leah grinned, excitedly, "Training montage?!"

"Absolutely not," Coretha responded, "I'm not belittling my training to a mere montage, Leah."

I rolled my eyes, "Ok, let's just get this over with. Yep, just going to go train to fight an ancient being older than anything in the universe. SO EXITED, not the sarcasm." We walked out of the building and Coretha eventually led us to an empty field.

"Line up. Jenna, stand to the side for a moment."Leah lined up first, Azariah and then Mordecai following. "Since we can't do separate one on one training right now, we're doing all of them at the same time. Ok, Leah, close your eyes and imagine a weapon. Every single detail. If you can't perfectly imagine a weapon, you're not done." Then she turned to me, "Jenna, meditate and focus on your breathing."

"Ok, ma'am, but shouldn't I be trying to focus on doing something?" I asked, sitting down on the ground.

"Nope, you need to focus on the basics more so that you're stronger. For you, those are the basics. Azariah, focus on what emotions you felt before the attack in heaven and before you fought those demons on Earth."

"Yes, ma'am!" Azariah exclaimed, finding the perfect spot and sitting down criss-cross applesauce.

"Ok... Mordecai, you get to paint the sky."

"Wait... what?" Mordecai asked, looking disappointed.

"Ya, what's the big deal, ma'am? Our activities sound pretty dumb, no offense," I said, putting my hands on my hips.

She glared at me, "Jenna, how do you know it's dumb if you haven't tried to do it?"

"Well, I don't know why I'm supposed to be doing this. And, you're making Mordecai sad. He wants something important to do, too," I replied, Mordecai agreeing.

"You need to think about what you're thinking first, Jenna. Not what Mordecai is thinking or whatever. And, Mordecai, you need to be more creative. Be in the moment," Coretha replied, smiling.

"But the sky I'm painting is already there," Mordecai pouted, "That's not very fun."

"Don't paint that sky, then. Paint a different one. It could have anything. It could have a whole bunch of rain clouds, no clouds, or even spiky clouds that don't really make sense. The sky could be brown for all I care." She snapped her fingers and a canvas along with pain appeared in her hand, "Just paint your sky." Now Mordecai was beaming, a smile on his face. He sat down and started rapidly pouring paint on the canvas. "Jenna, focus." I rolled my eyes, trying to not think about Mordecai's dorky face. I closed my eyes and suddenly, I was in this hallway, the walls this weird pink color. They looked kind of like a brain. There was a sign pointing to this lighter hallway that said 'Power,' and one that pointed to a much darker hallway. It said, 'Nowhere.'

I frowned, "This is an obvious choice, isn't it? Obviously, I go to the one that says power."

"You know what Coretha said. She told you to go to your thoughts," a voice said. I looked behind me to see a girl that looked just like me. Except, she wore white clothes.

Then another voice said, "Come on," and I looked in her direction to see me in red clothes, "You know more than anyone here that you just wanna know why that huge hunk of-"

"Gasp! Not in front of Jenna! You know how sensitive she is with her friends," the other one said, interrupting the me in a red dress.

"Whatever. You want to read his mind. You know, see why he's so freaking ok with painting some dumb sky. And, this one says power, which means it's how you use your power. Use it."

"No," the girl in white said, "You know what Coretha s-"

"We don't like Coretha. I feel like you already knew that, though. Coretha is so bossy. You don't like her, so just come with me."

"Temptation..." I whispered to myself, "Good thing I don't trust myself."

Temptation rolled her eyes, "I could hear you, you know. That was rude."

"Ya, but it does kind of explain you," I replied, laughing.

"Whatever. Explain that mess of an outfit, then," she said, pointing to the me in white.

"That's my moral compass," I replied, putting my hands on my hips, "Sorry, but I should probably follow her. See ya later."

"Oh, yay! This will be so awesome!" my moral compass exclaimed, "It's so interesting in here... I think. Anyway, follow me, I know the way. I am a compass after all,." I followed her down a hallway that lead to an opening. Inside were,,, so may pictures of Mordecai. I frowned. "Now this is just weird. What's wrong with you, Jenna?"

"What? He's my best friend."

"If that were the only reason, you'd have pictures of Leah, Azariah, Kelly, and Alexa. But... you don't. Besides, this is just all of your mental pictures. So that means this is how many times you thought to yourself something along the lines of, 'I wish I could remember this moment forever,' and I agree with you that all of these are cute pictures of him. But we do have an important question to ask ourselves, is hiding our feelings-" I quickly covered her mouth with my hand.

"Nope, that's not why we're here. Who are those people?" I asked, pointing to the group of Jenna's with all sorts of different colored clothing.

She mumbled through my hand, "I don't know who they are, but I know what they are."

I took my hand off her mouth, "What are they?"

"Pieces of your personality."

"Ok, introduce me."

"I can't. I don't know them."

"Do it anyway. You owe me one." We walked over to the group of people dressed in all sorts of colors. One even had these three stripes of color instead of just one solid color. There was a wide pink stripe, a thinner purple stripe, and then a wide blue stripe.

My moral compass smiled, "Hello, I'm Jenna's moral compass. This... is Jenna."

The girl with the three stripes said, "Oh, hey, Jenna. My name's Pride. I came up with it myself."

"Pride for what?" I asked, really confused. I was even more confused since I'd never seen a flag like that.

She smiled, "For who I am."

"Who am I?"

"Well, you're gonna have to figure that one out yourself."
