Point of View (Azariah)
Mordecai started getting fidgety, "Are we almost done?" he asked. We were still packing Leah's stuff in the boxes.
I turned around, "Just start taking the boxes to the apartment or something."
He slowly nodded, "I guess... I mean, I'm pretty weak, though."
Jenna turned around, giving him thumbs up, "You're doing fine, Mordecai. You need to build up your strength anyway."
He nodded and tried to lift up one of the boxes, "Thanks, Jenna."
As soon as he was out of earshot, I asked, "Jenna, what was that?"
"What do you mean?" she asked, not looking up at us.
Leah smiled, "Umm... could you not see it? He struggled so much until you gave him encouragement. He SMILED!"
"I don't know what you're talking about," Jenna replied, still packing. I could see a smile out of the corner of her face, though.
"So, Mordecai..." I said, nudging her shoulder.
"What about him?"
Then Mordecai came back, "What were you talking about?"
Jenna immediately replied, "You. We always talk about people that aren't in the room."
He frowned, "I don't think I wanna leave the room anymore."
"That's fine. There are more boxes. Besides, you need to build up your strength!" she exclaimed, showing off her muscles. Then she continued packing.
Once he left the room again, I said, "That was super manipulative, Jenna. You should apologize. Isn't there a rule against being that rude?"
She made an 'eek' facial expression, "Ya... you two just got in my head." She groaned, "It's just weird that he's so... different. I mean, he used to be evil, but it was still better. I used to be able to relate to him so much since he was evil and stuff. But now he's so nice. I'm gonna go find him."
Point of View Change (Jenna)
I walked out the door, looking down. About two seconds later, I bumped into something. "Augh," I exclaimed, backing up. I looked up to see Mordecai, looking pretty confused.
"Oh, are you taking a box to the apartment?" Mordecai asked.
"No... I was looking for you. We should talk. I'm sorry I'm being so weird. I thought everything would be the same when you came back, but you're so different."
He nodded, "Ya, it was kind of better when we were still in The Dark Heart Realm."
I shook my head, "No, no way. It's totally fine that things are different. Things are better because you're not the darkness anymore. We just have to start over from the beginning."
"But we're still friends, right?" he asked.
I nodded, smiling, "So, why were gone so long?" I sat down against the wall with Mordecai.
"I was talking to Zadkiel, Domiel, Ithuriel, and Abel."
I smiled, "Do I get to know what it's about?"
He shook his head slowly, "Probably not." I tried to figure out what he was thinking, hoping I'd get powers too. But then I ended up dozing off.
Point of View Change (Mordecai)
I thought about random things for so long that when I was done, Jenna was snoring on my shoulder. My face got red as I thought back to my conversation with Domiel, Zadkiel, Ithuriel, and Abel. I walked past them as I went through the living room and I heard Ithuriel say, "Mordecai," making me turn around.
"Ya?" I asked, smiling.
"We know," Abel threatened, grinning.
"About what?" I asked, backing up.
"Jenna."
I shook my head, "Umm... no way, she's my guardian. AND, she's so much younger than me."
"No, we wanna help you," Domiel said, smiling.
I sat down, "Why? Please don't say makeover."
"Even though that would be so much fun, we mean advice. First off, you need to realize that it's different this time. You like her this time."
I nodded, "Yep. That is true."
Abel smiled, "You're really weird. Just... go take the box o the apartment and come back." Now, I'm back here and Jenna's sleeping on my arm.
"That's so cute," I whispered to myself. Then I heard gasps. I looked up to see Azariah and Leah standing there with their mouths wide open. I would've done something, but I didn't want to wake up Jenna. I leaned my head against hers, immediately falling asleep since her head was so warm.
When I woke up, Jenna was still leaning against my shoulder, asleep. She started moving and I thought she would wake up, but then she went back to drooling on my arm again. But then she suddenly sat up and quickly looked around. "Hey," I said, smiling.
She looked up at me, 'What happened? I mean, I don't even remember falling asleep."
"I was staring at the wall when you dozed off. You fell asleep on my shoulder and I didn't want to wake you up. Oh ya, I have something I need to tell Azariah and Leah," I said awkwardly, standing up.
Just before walking through the doorway, I heard Jenna say, "Thanks." I turned around, "For not waking me up," she continued, rubbing the back of her neck.
"No problem," I replied, smiling. I walked into Leah's room and closed the door. They were both sprawled out on the floor. They slowly woke up, "We need to talk."
Now sitting up, squinting their eyes, "What for?" they asked.
"Ya, I still haven't gotten my 12 hours," Leah added, rubbing her eyes.
I sat down, "I think you know why, Azariah. Last night, what you heard, stays between us. Don't ruin this for me."
They both laughed and Leah said, "I totally forgot about that. Go back to Jenna, we won't tell her."
I sighed, "Thank goodness, I'll go now..." When I left the room, I saw Jenna sitting against the wall, "Let's go, we can just wait for them in the living room."
She nodded, "Ok, sounds good." We went into the living room where Zadkiel and Domiel were collapsed on the couch. They both looked super tired.
Zadkiel sighed, "We have no idea what to do! Usually, we have breakfast, but we're not supposed to eat food anymore. My morning is all messed up!" Azariah came out of the hallway, looking more awake than ever.
She smiled, "Cheer up! Go get dressed, you look terrible!"
Leah came in behind her and added, "She's right, you do have work today."
"I guess we could go get ready for work and be adults," Domiel sniffled, walking with Zadkiel to their bedroom.
"We should probably figure out what we're going to be doing today since there's no school..." Jenna said, turning to me. I nodded, thinking about what the house is like. I've seen some of the house, but mainly just the entrance. We walked to the apartment with some more boxes. We slowly opened the door and we all said, 'woah' when we saw our house.
"Should have opened it so slowly... that was creepy. Quick, someone, turn on the lights!" Jenna yelled, pointing to the empty and dark room.
I turned on the lights, "So scary!" She gasped, offended, putting her hand over her mouth.
"Well, you're... you're weird," she said, struggling with words, "So... ya." We all dropped our boxes off and Jenna and I headed to headquarters.
"Oh ya, that's probably where Domiel and Zadkiel met. I'm just glad we didn't meet in a dark and weird place," I said, pointing to the place in the tunnel that was boarded up.
"That's definitely not true. That place was just dark and weird," Jenna said, shivering.
"Eh, I wouldn't have known. It was the only place I ever was... it was home."
"Oh ya... sorry."
"It's fine," I responded, "I just always thought it was a pretty awesome place. You know, with such an awesome person coming to visit me every day."
"W-well, I mean, obviously."
"Are you ok?" I asked, concerned she might be sick or something.
"Y-ya, totally! I'm fine... completely fine. I'm fine. Just... everything's fine!" Jenna exclaimed, punching me in the shoulder very hard. "Sorry... you know, I'm pretty excited for this."
"Do you think we'll get the same job?"
"Definitely! If we don't get the same job, I'll break down on the spot and make a super big deal out of it!"
"Me too!' I exclaimed, nodding really fast.
"Oh, we're here."
We walked inside headquarters and immediately heard someone say, "Mordecai... and Jenna?" from behind us. We turned around to see The big man.
Jenna responded, "We don't have jobs yet."
"I've actually been thinking about that for a while. I have a plan laid out. Come with me." We followed him to this room and we sat down.
"What's the plan?" Jenna asked.
"Both of you will work in records. Mordecai can't read, but that's ok because you won't be working there for long. I have something up my sleeve."
"So, why did we have to come in here?" Jenna asked, rolling her eyes, "I'm not gonna lie, I don't really care why we're not gonna be in records for long, I just hate all of this."
"You are very negative, Jenna," I said, frowning.
"Well, I just want to tell the truth," Jenna replied, "And that's the truth."
"Whatever. Anyway, that's the plan and you can go ahead and go to work now."
Point of View Change (The big man)
"Ok, another episode of The big man's corner! Coretha is here again and this is about Jenna and Mordecai's relationship. They're the bestest of friends, right? Well, that wasn't always the case. Actually, all dark hearts can contact their guardians in one way or another. It's different with each person because it depends on the dark heart. Some of them are actually more powerful than others, but I won't spoil that. So, push play on the tape for this episode."

Jenna went to her room and laid down to sleep, now 13 years in human years. She lived with Bob and Linda and she had this pretty necklace that Linda had gotten her. But, she had secretly traded it for a choker at school, hoping her parents wouldn't notice. She had a dream that night.

I could see a bridge through the darkness. It was midnight since the only visible thing you could was this... warped moon. It looked like it was melting and it was seconds from falling out of the sky. The other light was this street light underneath the bridge. In the street light, I could see a boy standing there. He wore a white button-up shirt and black pants. His curly hair was beautiful in the flickering street light. His sleeves were rolled up and I could barely see scars... just like mine. I pushed the thought away as I looked down to see that I was wearing this strange long-sleeved crop top with a weird skirt. Then I realized that I had wings. When he turned around, the curls flew out of the way of his face for a second and I could see a bright red eye. It was immediately covered up again and there was only the one black eye. I slid down the hill. Then the boy said, "Jenna, it's nice to finally meet you." Somehow, I kind of felt bad for him even though we'd never met.
"What's your name?" I asked.
He shrugged his shoulders, "I don't know. I do know that I'm the darkness and you're my guardian. The guardian of darkness, what a fancy title, kid. Lately, I've felt like everyone's been going pretty easy on their guardian. So, just to let you know, we're enemies." He grinned even more.
"You don't have a name at all?" I asked.
"I guess not..." he said, taking a step forward. I glanced down, seeing that he was almost outside of the light. I figured I'd have a better chance outside of that weird light.
"So, how many guardians have you had? I mean, what's the death rate here?"
"The death rate?" he asked, holding out his hand, "Oh, honey..." I took his, him pulling me into the light, "You don't wanna know. Besides, you'll be dead soon."
"Are you always this charming?"
"It depends," he responded, smiling.
"On what?"
"How determined I find you to be and how weak you are."
I laughed, "Well, are you gonna forget about me when you're an angel?"
"Wouldn't dream of it, honey. Why would I forget the only one who's ever had the same scars as me...?" he asked, rolling up my sleeves.
I backed up, "Nope... I don't think so... Forget them," I replied, rushing to roll my sleeves back down.
"Why are you so afraid of what makes you different?" he asked, following me.
"I don't wanna look at them..."
"Honey, you don't choose to be the guardian of darkness, so you should just give in already," he said, stepping closer and closer. I heard whispers coming from the grown. I stumbled to the ground, hoping this was the time when I realized I also had superpowers. I closed my eyes shut and I held out my hand. Then I felt something warm touching my palm. I opened my eyes again and the boy was on his knees, a splotch of blue and aqua on his shirt. "I'm sorry. That was terrible. I'll be nice from now on." There was a big pause before he continued, "I love your wings, they're beautiful."
"Oh ya... what color are they? They usually change colors."
"They're red," he replied, laughing. He messed with my wings a bit until he looked up, "Oh, first goodbye, it's morning now..." he breathed.

"Anyway, Coretha, explain the communication thing," I said, sitting on my desk.
She laughed, "Well, they all have the ability to be part of the way in heaven and part of the way in The Dark Heart Realm. I actually still have access to The Dark Heart Realm, so I talk to some of the others, sometimes. One of them actually even saw Jenna and Mordecai the night they met. Of course, it was Sh-"
"Hahahhaha, we don't want to spoil the story!" I yelled, covering her mouth, "Anyway, bye."

The big man laughed, "Go ahead and go sit down at records. Coretha can show you to your desks."
"Cool. Where is she?" I asked.
"She's at the front desk. Just tell her I sent you and say the number one. She'll know what you mean." We walked over to the front desk and told Coretha the number. She took us over to this desk and I immediately realized we were right next to where Leah and Azariah sit.
"Oh no," I muttered as Leah and Azariah walked over.
They both ran over and hugged me, "Yay! You get to work with us!"
Mordecai smiled really wide, "YAY!" and wrapped his arms around the three of us.
