Before we had realized it, there was a huge number of people surrounding us as the vampire lords did their best to stand guard around me and my brother. It was like being surrounded by a huge sea, only made up of people. After a few moments, they were so awestruck, that they did not know what to say. I suppose I am the first female vampire they have seen that was not a mindless lessor. I began to get a little nervous with so many around me. After all this place was far bigger than the village, I had grown up in till now. I gave a worried look to Botan as I was unsure of what I should do, I just seem to look down rather embarrassed instead. After all, I have not even had the chance to cultivate my powers, therefore there was not much I could do myself at the moment.
Botan Date: (Taking my hand he looked at me with a gentle smile…) "Do not worry too much about it. They will get used to you and your brother. You are the queen after all, and an herbalist. There is no way they will treat you to awkwardly for awfully long."
Kaida Endo: "Are you sure there are no female vampires that are not feral other than me? Really, that makes me feel so damn lonely to a minor degree. I mean seriously, I am the only pure blood female you guys have seen in years."
Botan Date: "I am certain that you are the only pure blood female we have found so far. If others do indeed exist, we have not located any of them. Though we are still sending scouts out looking, just do not hold your breath. We found you by chance, that is all there is to it."
Kaida Endo: "I know that. But I really do want to make my skills useful to the humans, I did study using herbs since I was twelve years old to when you brought me here. And was out every day helping him out. I was his only apprentice after all."
As soon as someone in the crowd overheard how long I had actually studied herbology, they were more than happy to ask me what they needed to restock on so everyone could be healthy. After about an hour or so of talking to several of the people that ran the apothecary and the clinic, we had formed a detailed list of all the things we needed the scouts to go forth and search for. Surely the humans receiving the much-needed items would be a good start in trusting Kaida. Tsubasa spent much of his time working with some of the blacksmiths showing them some better techniques to blend metals for making new weapons. All in all, it was a rather productive day. Before we left, we managed to have several people lining up to donate blood to us for all the help we gave them. I was in awe seeing the trade-off firsthand, I to a small degree thought Botan and the others were exaggerating how much the humans were willing to give back. I was completely impressed by it all. The whole of the situation made me smile. I even spent some time talking to the town tailor about making me some new kimonos out a beautiful butterfly and flowers filled silk roll. The tailor smiled and nodded agreeing to my choice in fabric. I thanked him and his assistant and we went about looking at some other miscellaneous stuff. We decided to head back to the mansion at around two in the afternoon. I was a little tired and getting used to the new sleep schedule. Pure bloods could be in the sun, just not for extremely long periods of time. We had already pushed the four-hour mark in the sun. We ate a small meal and then headed to our bedroom as Botan escorted me to our doors.
Kaida Endo: (Smiling brightly up at him…) "Thank you very much for today Botan. I had a lovely time. I am really glad the people in the town seemed to warm up to us very well. I was really worried about it."
Botan Date: "You are quite welcome. The tailor said something about your kimono's being ready in a few weeks' time. They should be quite beautiful. Well, I will bid you good evening for the day."
Kaida Endo: "Thank you. You have a good evening as well, Botan."
Tsubasa Endo: "Yes thank you for today. It was quite the treat to see another smiting style. You have a wonderful evening."
We lightly bowed to Botan and headed into our rooms. We were still sleeping on the floor for whatever reason. I am guessing we both thought it was still more comfortable. After all, we were still not used to seeing such an elaborate style of bed that actually was raised off the floor. It had now been more than half a month since we came to Botan's mansion after all. I was incredibly happy that they had all kept their word about the continued sending of supplies and children to our home village. I could not help but feel he had a motive, but I did not know what it was for now. I just knew what was going on presently. But one thing was for sure, it was getting odd to a small degree. Botan was right about the vampire instincts kicking in to want to make me his, my brother was having a hard time controlling himself. I wondered if it was this way for all of them and not just my brother. Did it have to do with the fact that I am the only female vampire currently? Or is it because I am the queen? Or both? As for now, he was still able to control himself. But I could tell it was getting to him now and again. All we can do is see about some additional self-control training from the vampire lords. Looking into it, we decided to talk with Botan the next day while we had some breakfast. I just hoped he would not laugh at us, after all, dealing with these new urges was hard to do after all. We did not have the years of experience like they did.
Kaida Endo: (Slowly drinking off her wine glass…) "I need to ask this question and I am hoping that I will not be laughed at, after all, we do not have your experience."
Botan Date: "What is your question, I do not think any of us would laugh, especially if it deals with the new urges you two may be having. "
Kaida Endo: (Taking another sip off of her wine glass, she swirled it lightly as she asked…) "Alright then. We are needing to know how you guys deal with the overwhelming urges. My brother has been noticing the instinctual attraction to me whether it is because I am the only female currently or is it because I am the queen? Or both? Either way, it is messing with him badly."
Botan Date: "Oh that. It is an instinctual attraction to the fact that you are a pure blood female. The number of pure blood females is one to seven. At least that was the ratio at one point in time. With as many pure bloods that have lost their way, you may very well be one of very, very few pure blood females left, making the new ratio one in a thousand now. That is one female to a thousand males."
Tsubasa Endo: "Holy hell, no wonder you told us what you did. And with so many that have basically gone insane, the idea that there will be any females left that are intact is almost nonexistent now then. Am I correct in that assumption?"
Botan Date: "You are correct in that assumption. That is why I said you may have to join me in marrying your sister. It will be the only way to ensure that you remain in control. Besides, it is not an uncommon practice for vampire siblings to marry anyway. We are not human. And trying to turn a standard human into one of us most times leads to them going insane. There are not enough humans that can actually mentally deal with the change. That is why we are in this mess now. To many lessors and not enough masters to properly guide them. And even with guidance, the humans turned usually, even with help, go completely insane and become destructive."
Kaida Endo: "So I will basically have no choice but to inevitably marry my own brother and all four of you as well. At least it is a decent head's up for me. And it will not be sprung on me unprepared. I guess that will be part of the curse I take with me. Living as a human all my life, the concept of polygamy is not one that is drilled into most humans. Almost all human cultures are monogamous."
Botan Date: "I understand where you are coming from at least, but as you have just stated, it is not unusual for a female vampire to have multiple husbands. The difference is to great. All we can do, is train you two in our customs in hopes that it will help you adjust a little bit faster."
Tsubasa Endo: "I understand. Then it appears that our cursed fate will just be that much more challenging. I will just have to try my best to control myself. One day, it will not be so awkward for us."
Kaida Endo: "I suppose you are right. We will just have to study the vampire customs and engrain them into ourselves. Hopefully, it will not take that long."
Botan Date: "No it should not. Apply yourselves every day and we will have you guys educated properly in the vampire society. Since you guys have lived all your lives as humans, that part of the education will not be necessary."
Kaida Endo: "Well then, anytime you want us to get started on the customs education we will get to it."
And so, after breakfast, we left out of the dining hall and headed to the library end of his castle. It was enormous with many books lining the walls. Looking around, all you can see is rows and rows of books and scrolls. Some so old, we were in fear of them falling apart if we even touched them. We spent the next few weeks learning everything there was to know about their society and the importance of the queen's power was a special topic for me alone. Especially because of the fact that my powers were that of the absorbing and giving variety. I would eventually become more powerful than even Botan and the other lords due to that fact. It is no wonder why the queen is feared by all.
While studying, they finally got word that kimonos Kaida ordered were finally finished. As well as some of the weapons that Tsubasa was curious about from the blacksmith. With this, Botan had the carriage prepared and they headed into town to pick up their items. Looking out the window, Kaida watched as she seen everyone working hard in the fields. With the help of all the fences and barriers in place, there was so much food that could be tended to as well as moving of the grazing animals. Everything had such a consistent flow to it; it is hard to imagine this peace being disturbed by the lessor vampires' issue. Thankfully, the scouts said that the lessor issue was down some. There had not been as many sightings now as there had been in the past. It was rather odd, or is it they could sense me? Was my presence alone enough to make them warry? I really had no answers to all these things I had been pondering.
