At lunch that day Morticia noticed Gomez's face was slightly scrunched and his lip was curled into what almost looked like a smile; his thinking face.
"Gomez darling you look like you have something on your mind." Morticia asked. Gomez was still in his trance. Morticia waved her hand in front of his face which made him snap out of his trance.
"Sorry, Querida. I was just thinking." Gomez smiled.
"About what darling?" Morticia asked.
"It's been too long since we've went away somewhere and had actual fun!" Gomez said.
"Your right it has been a while." Morticia said thinking herself now.
"Everyone, think. When was the last time we went on vacation?" Gomez asked.
"Either when we tried to go to the moon, or to the hurricane." Morticia answered. "And we left the children with that Miss Thud."
"Miss Thud! More like Miss Fraud!" Uncle Fester exclaimed. "She came in with all those perky sugary sweets! And those awful stories!"
"We wanted her to leave the minute she started reading mother goose!" Wednesday said.
"Yeah! That Miss Thud never read anything interesting." Pugsley said. "She never read Poe, or any other poems Addams' love."
"I'm sorry your governess had to be so....perky darlings." Morticia said cringing. "I'll never hire her again!"
"Goodie!" Wednesday and Pugsley said in unison.
"If you're finished children, please take your plates up to the table." Morticia ordered.
"Yes, mother." The children said getting up from their chairs and taking their dishes to the sink for Lurch to wash.
"So as I was saying, where should we go on vacation Tish?" Gomez asked.
"I don't know darling, we've been practically everywhere there is for an Addams to go." Morticia answered.
"It seems like everywhere in the world there's something perky." Mama said.
"I know, the very thought makes me cringe!" Morticia exclaimed. "If only their was somewhere for an Addams to go."
"I suppose I could look up something on the world map in the study." Gomez said extending his hand for Morticia to take. Morticia accepted and she and Gomez went upstairs and into the study. The world map was behind Gomez's train set. He walked over to it and looked over the map.
"California is a definite no because that place is too sunny." Gomez said. "We'd all get sunburn and.....tan. Florida will give us the same result. So a more of a country setting, a neighborhood.....?"
"Mommy! Daddy!" Wednesday exclaimed running into the room.
"Yes, Wednesday darling?" Morticia asked.
"Can we go here for vacation?" Wednesday asked pointing to a location on the map.
"Hmmm." Morticia thought. "Mockingbird Heights Utah.....sounds too perky for me...."
"But it's not!" Wednesday exclaimed. "Look at this house!"
Morticia looked at a house in the newspaper Wednesday was pointing to. The houses roof was unusually arched and it was a brownish color almost mahogany or creamy chocolate brown. The yard had no flowers and the trees leaves were lush and green. The fence was made of stone which gave the house an old time feeling.
"I suppose we could go to Mockingbird Heights just to see that house in person...." Morticia said. "It's not too perky...."
"But Morticia if we go to Mockingbird Heights will the children be alright there?" Gomez asked. "Meaning they won't be tempted to get anything too perky?"
"Not with a house like that." Morticia said. "We should probably stay in a hotel room in case someone lives there."
"Then can we go see the house mother?!" Wednesday asked.
"Of course dear. No one should go anywhere without visiting a haunted house!"
"If we're lucky their might just be a swamp!" Mama exclaimed.
"And field for a shooting range for me!" Uncle Fester exclaimed.
"And to play games...." Lurch added.
"I hope Pugsley and I can go spider hunting somewhere!" Wednesday exclaimed.
"I'd catch the big ones!" Pugsley exclaimed.
"No I would!" Wednesday exclaimed.
"Capital idea! Mockingbird Heights for an Addams Family vacation it is then!" Gomez exclaimed.
~
Gomez and Morticia packed their sunglasses and bathing suits and toothbrush and toothpaste and bath towels. They also packed Edgar Allan Poe books and books on swamps and any other gothic topic they could get their hands on. Uncle Fester packed his gun, gun power and his bed of nails. He also packed his Knick knacks he used for target practice. Mama and Lurch packed everything for meals and games. Wednesday and Pugsley packed their books and toys and spider catching equipment. Along with the spider catching equipment Wednesday packed he fort spider Homer.
Lurch loaded everything in the car with the help from the Addams Family. Lurch closed the trunk and everybody got in the car.
"Wait, I think we're forgetting one more person..."Morticia said. Suddenly there was a voice talking gibberish that no one could understand.
"That sounds like Cousin Itt!" Morticia exclaimed. Cousin Itt's voice was coming out of the trunk. Morticia hopped out of the car and lifted the trunk. Sure enough Cousin Itt was in the trunk.
"Oh Cousin Itt, I'm so sorry we accidentally locked you in here! Come on out!" Morticia exclaimed. Cousin Itt accepted Morticia's apology in gibberish and climbed into the car. The car took off and sounded it's signature *BOOM*
~
Lurch drive the car to the Cemetery Ridge Regional Airport. He parked the car and everybody looked at the Addams Family like they were a pack of nuts. Some people even ran away and tripped everywhere.
"I wonder what's gotten into those people." Gomez said.
"Who knows. Their probably all painfully shy." Morticia said.
"Well, they better not be afraid of us! What's there to be afraid of?!" Mama asked.
"Oh nonsense mama, no one could ever be afraid of us." Morticia said. "We're the most welcoming family there is!"
"I know, but everyone seems to be shaky when they come over to our house." Gomez said.
"Enough chatting we have to get to our flight!" Mama exclaimed.
"Right." Morticia said.
Everyone followed Mama inside the airport. Escalators went up and down everywhere, there were little restaurants to get food which everyone in the family thought those restaurants had the dullest taste in food. No henbane on the rocks, tongue of yack, yack stew, yack fudge, soufflé of aardvark, and no cookies with the little bugs on them. All those restaurants had was pizza, onion rings, ice cream, and a bunch of soda.
"What are we going to eat?" Pugsley asked.
"Don't worry darling, Lurch packed snacks." Morticia answered. Lurch grabbed a little bug cookie out of his pack and handed it to Pugsley who happily obliged.
"Dear, Lurch." Morticia said. "Always prepared for everything."
"Alright, Lurch and I will get everybody checked in." Gomez said. Gomez went to the check in line and everybody else took their seats.
"Sir, I'd like eight plane tickets to Mockingbird Heights Utah please. Six adults and two children." Gomez said. The usher printed out flight tickets for Gomez and Gomez handed the usher everyone's passport photos. Gomez went over with the family and took his seat next to Morticia.
~
"Flight 313 first class passengers it's your turn to board." The flight attendant said on the intercom.
"That's us!" Gomez exclaimed. Gomez and the rest of the Addams clan boarded the plane and took their seats. Pugsley noticed everyone around them seemed to be jittery and jumpy.
"Father why is everyone so jumpy?" Pugsley asked.
"Well son, some people are afraid of heights." Gomez said. "I red an article about that just the other day."
"Afraid of heights? That's stupid." Pugsley said.
"Now son we're on an airplane." Gomez said. "But you're right. I don't understand how people can be afraid of heights."
"Neither do I father." Pugsley said.
