Chapter 1 - A Day at the Coffee Shop

Yane POV:

I woke up to the birds chirping near my window. I slowly sat up rubbing my eyes before stretching my limbs up in the air. I looked outside my window and saw the sun slowly start to get up. I slowly elevated my limbs back down and got out of bed. My heart was at ease like always and I slowly left my room.

I started heading to my bathroom, walking down the hall before entering a bright room with tiles on the walls and floor. I walked in and started walking towards the mirror, and when I got there I stared at my reflection, trying to win the staring contest with myself. Soon my eyes were starting to sting and I quickly blinked. I laughed at my own silliness before taking my toothbrush and paste from the cup.

I took off the lid from the toothpaste and evenly spread the substance onto my toothbrush before putting it back into the cup.

I brushed my teeth for a while and headed back to my room to get ready for work. I walked into my room and walked over to my closet slowly stripping down from my pajamas to change into new clothes.

I put on a plain white t-shirt and some black jeans before grabbing my backpack, throwing in my purse, and phone. I walked out of my room, closing the door behind. Walking into the kitchen, I decided to just go with a slice of bread.

I did wake up abnormally early today, so might as well satisfy the manager for once by showing up early and doing extra stuff. Maybe if I continue doing this, my manager would eventually forgive me for my clumsiness, stop threatening to fire me, or even raise my salary. Now the last part will probably never happen but still, the chances aren't zero.

I quickly stuffed the slice of bread into my mouth before loosely hanging a strap of my backpack onto my shoulder before heading to the door. I put on my shoes and grabbed the keys before heading out and locking the door behind.

I walked down a few stairs before opening the main door into the apartment complex. The moment I opened the door, I felt the warm wind on my skin. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath through my nose admiring the smell from the nearby bakery.

Then I headed out for work. I walked down the streets, I took everyday. I greeted the old lady who sat on the bench everyday feeding the pigeons with bread. I even offered my own bread slice to the birds, which they gladly accepted.

I walked a bit more till I reached the coffee shop where I worked at. I walked in and saw the manager sitting behind the counter making herself a cup of coffee. I walked over to her with a smile before saying, "Good morning, ma'am. What a lovely day, isn't it." I said in my sweetest voice.

She looked up at me with confusion, before smiling back and giving in. "Lovely it is. It's nice to see you here early today. Any particular occasion?" She asked while starting to drink her coffee.

"Nope. I just thought that I could get some things done before the others came." I said while entering the small room where, we, employees changed into our uniforms. I opened up my locker and placed my backpack inside while taking out my uniform. I quickly put on my uniform and headed back out to where Ms. Aoi was, patting off the invisible dust off my apron and uniform. By the time I came out she was done with her coffee.

"So anything new?" I said in a friendly tone. "Not much. I am planning on doing something for valentines day. I don't quite know what though. Maybe special cookies for couples, or discounts if you pass challenges with your partner." I nodded showing significant interest. "Do you have any suggestions?" She asked looking at me curiously.

"I think your ideas are great!" I said in a cheerful tone. "We could serve some ice cream latte with extra ingredients for the couples." I suggested.

"Well, indeed that is a great idea." Ms. Aoi said rubbing her chin. "I'll even help get the things ready. The decorations, the ingredients, I'll help serve them and I can be the host for the challenges." I offered in a cheerful voice.

This seemed to satisfy Ms. Aoi due to the expression on her face. She kept rubbing her chin before finally letting go and saying, "Well, that's the spirit." I nodded before starting to wipe the tables and putting the chairs in perfect order, before I heard Ms. Aoi's voice again, "I'm heading out, I have to meet up with someone. I'll be gone until noon. Take care, and don't break anything." She said with a sharp glare at the end of the sentence.

I just let out a nervous chuckle before getting back to what I was doing. A few minutes passed since Ms. Aoi left and I was still tiding up the shop. I had at least 30 more minutes before the others came and 45 minutes before the shop opened.

I walked into the staff room and started tiding things up there. Five minutes in and I heard the doorbell ring. Apparently Ms. Aoi didn't lock the door. It was strange because the others wouldn't come in at least 20 minutes and Ms. Aoi said that she'd be back at noon.

I just shrugged it off and started heading out of the staff room. As I was reaching my hands for the door knob, the door aggressively swung open and before I knew it I felt cold hands on my mouth. I was in shock and tried to get the hand off me. I person holding me closed the door and walked to the back of the room, with me, still in his grip.

The more I struggled the tighter the person's grip got. The cold hands still placed on my mouth to prevent me from screaming. I didn't know what to do, I was thinking of using my quirk before the grip slowly loosened. I quickly pushed his hands off of my face before jumping away from him.

The person was a man in a hood. His face was covered with a mask. He was wearing a long sleeved jacket. I took deep breaths to calm down which eventually worked. The man still sat there on the floor, elbow on his knee, hanging down loosely. I looked at him with visible annoyance planted on my face. The man seemed like he was out of breath and kept breathing heavily.

Still keeping my distance I asked, "Are you fine sir? Is there anything I can do for you?" I was starting to get worried after not getting a reply. I slowly started walking over to him to check if he was fine. I was now standing in from of him and I crouched down to his level. I slowly and carefully took off his hood.

He had longish black hair which spiked up around his head. I bent my head to see his face which seemed to be sleeping. I checked his pulse, to make sure he was alive, which he was. I sighed in relief as I tried to carry him to bed. I tried to carry him bridal style, but it didn't work. Then, I tried to get him on my back, which also didn't work, and that was when I gave up. I decided to use my quirk.

I could manipulate anyone's blood. I could shape shift it; use it as offense or defense. I can also clot blood or undo the clotting as well as solidify. In serious cases I can control someone's movements by controlling their blood, or I could stop their blood flow which would kill them. No one knows that I have a quirk. I'm known as the "quirkless girl" in the shop.

I controlled the blood in the man's body and made him walk over to the bed himself. Then when he was near the bed I released him from my control and caught him before he fell down. This man was heavy. He looks like a slim person but he sure did weigh a lot. I gently placed him on the bed, and took the closest chair next to me.

I sat down and put a hand on top of another. I was still kinda worried for him and decided to check if he had any wounds. I unzipped his jacket, revealing a white t-shirt stained in blood. My eyes opened in shock as I quickly lifted up the t-shirt and saw a bullet dug into his abdominal. I quickly used my quirk again and made the blood pull out the bullet out of his skin. Once it was out I quickly clotted the wound to stop the bleeding.
