Chapter 2 - **

"Step on it! Cut off cars if you have to! You have to go faster! Go, Go, Go!"

The female EMT yelled as she started to do chest compression to get Y/N's heart to work again.

It took the ambulance five minutes to get to the trauma center where there were doctors ready to save the girl's life.

Darline ran along with the gurney as the doctors ran to get her into the main trauma room.

"She was shot, she lost a lot of blood. When I raised her shirt there was no exit wound. The bullet is still in her. She was bleeding for about 15-30 minutes. Her heartbeat is irregular and she has a faint pulse." The EMT gave a rundown on what they knew.

"Get her in the operating room now. Page Doctor Shepherd. Doctor Grey will lead on this. Someone get the mom out of here!" The doctor shouted out orders and Darline was stopped from going any further and was shown to the waiting room. When she sat down her head dropped and she and sobbed. This girl she didn't know had almost died in her arms. She had that girl's blood all over her. If the girl didn't make it she didn't know what she would do. Who was this girl, what was her name, what was her favorite song or color? If she didn't make it through, no one would ever know.

Darline's harsh sobbing turned into small tears that would fall every time she blinked.

A nurse, seeing the woman calm down, walked over to have her fill out some forms and paperwork.

"Hello, ma'am. I'm sorry for the bad timing but we need you to fill out this information sheet." She handed her the packet.

"I can't. I don't know her. She was alone and I found her on the floor bleeding. I don't know her name or age or anything about her." Darline answers.

"We have her belongings, which included her phone. I'm sure we can get it to you so you can call her parents." The nurse laid a conferring hand on Darline's shoulder before walking away to see what she could do to give the phone to her.

It was a while before the nurse came back with a clear bag that had white tabs on it.

"I was able to get this for you. I'm sure you can help her family find their daughter."

"Thank you. Thank you." Darline teared up again. With shaking hands, she turned on the iPhone to see there were many missed calls and text messages from contacts labeled 'Mom' and 'Dad'. Darline had stood up and walked over to a secluded area so no one would bother her.

She clicked on the missed call from her mom. Luckily with iPhones when you click on missed calls it called that person without needing a password. After one ring the phone was picked up.

"(Y/n)? Where are you? You never checked in! You come home-" the mother sternly said into the phone.

"Actually ma'am, I'm not your daughter. My name is Kodaco Darline. There has been an accident involving your daughter." Darline's voice cracked as she talked about the child.

"What happened! Why do you have her phone?" The mom panicked calling a name in the background.

"I think it would be better to talk about in person... she's currently in the Temashu Hospital. I can wait for you and your family at the front to take you to the area she's in." Darline offered. Her own voice coughing out a sob. Her mother heard the sob from Kodaco and let out her own panicked cries.

"Yes! I'm on my way! My husband and I will be there in twenty minutes or less!"

"Be safe during your drive ma'am." With that, the mother hung up the phone.

As she promised, Darline waited the twenty minutes for the parents outside. When the parents saw their daughter's phone case, which she had painted by herself, they ran to the woman.

The first thing the parent noticed was the blood on Darline's clothes. Darline had washed her hands, arms, and hair of blood but remained in the same clothing.

"Where is (y/n)! The mom yelled.

"We should go to the waiting room to talk..." Darline suggested. The father helped steer the mom in the direction of the room. Once there the three adults sat down.

"Tell me what happened to my daughter. Why are you covered in blood? Where is (Y/n)? Why is she here?" The mom and dad rattled off questions.

"To start from the beginning, I had found (Y/n) on her knees before she fell over on her side. That's when I noticed that she was bleeding heavily. I moved her head to my lap and my husband called the ambulance. She was bleeding heavily and others helped to keep her safe. This one lady even sprinted for five minutes looking for a pro hero to see if they could help. They gave her first aid and helped keep her somewhat stable till the paramedics came. She was lucid enough to tell them that she was shot. We don't know how or why. I went with her in the ambulance. They rushed her into surgery and I think it's been two hours so far..." Darline finished with tears in her eyes as she recalled all of the horrors that she experienced.

The parents weren't better then what Darling was feeling as she first came to the hospital. They were holding onto each other sobbing. There were no words to describe the way the parents of (y/n) broke down and shattered in the waiting room.

Darline excused herself in her blood-soaked clothes to give the family some space. She called her husband to give him details that included only her so she wouldn't spread other people's information.

It was another hour until the doctor that Darline first saw, Doctor Grey. Darline joined the family to see how (y/n) was doing.

"The girl is fine-"

"Sakaru (y/n). That's her name. She's 13." Her father spoke. The doctor gave a kind smile.

"Sakaru is fine. She's stable and her vitals are doing great. We plan to do another surgery on Sakaru when we have an available surgery room. We got the bullet out but there were some issues concerning that. The way the bullet hit her mixed with what quirk the attacker has, we suspect that it's a form of detonation, the circumference of the area of skin where the bullet was lodged, the detonation charred her skin. It's not fatal but there will be a permanent scar."

The parents didn't know how to handle the news. They sank back into their seats.

"What about a skin graph?" Darline asked.

"The way that it's positioned if we tried we would hit a kidney and possibly her stomach." Darline nodded.

"Thank you."

"She'll be perfectly fine after the next surgery." The doctor said trying to give the family peace of mind.

"I'm sorry I couldn't be much help. But please, if you need anything don't hesitate to call. Here's my number, and house number... I have to get back to my daughter but I will visit tomorrow if you allow me." Darline bowed to the parents to show her grievances. What she wasn't expecting was for (y/n)'s mom to pull her into a tight hug muttering thank yous into her ear.

"You're more than welcome to come and visit (y/n). After all, you saved her life. If it weren't for you she would have- would've... but she didn't because of you." (Y/n) father said holding on her arm in a way it reminded her of her father.

"(Y/n) is a special girl. She'll make it through this even stronger than before." Darline said. Her phone rang with the caller ID being her husband.

"Get home to your family. I'm sure they're worried. Thank you." With one last wave, Darline walked to the exit of the building and ordered a taxi to get her home.

A year later (y/n) was better and came out on top. She had remembered all the details about the mugging. She had started going to a therapist which helped her remember what triggered her quirk. The therapist also helped (y/n) come to terms and accept her large scar. She thought it was the ugliest thing ever, that the giant patch of irritated red skin made her gross. But she later found that it showed her resilience to everything around her. It was then decided that she would become a pro hero to protect those like her.

After her 14th birthday, (y/n) finally completely understood her quirk.

It was all in her eyes.

She never would've thought of the idea that her quirk would be controlled by her eyes. If she didn't remember the incident that created all of her problems.

She would practice on Darline and if her family was willing them too, her family migrated into one big one with the Kodaco and Sakaru family sticking together after (Y/n)'s accident.

(Y/n) would set up her phone to record her as she would look Darline in the eyes. When (Y/n) would watch the videos back she noticed how her eyes changed in color. It was confusing because no one ever said anything about her eyes being a weird color. Some videos would show her eyes turn multiple hues of one color. Other times it would be one color at the edge of her eye and a different color in the middle that made a beautiful color palette. The colors were always different never the same color but different shades. Yet no one who had (y/n)'s quirk inflected on them never remembered her eyes change colors.

Darline would instantly become loving towards (y/n) in the way a mother would. But when (y/n) would leave the room and put much distance between them the effects wore off. She would put her reflective glasses on and Darline would be normal. Then that's where the first problem came in. How did she stop the effects?

Darline would use her quirk- because (y/n) ask her too- sheet, which gave her the ability to pull up whatever was long enough to block her body from view.

This seemed to work but not at much as (y/n) leaving the room. Now to figure out how to have (y/n) do this herself.

She tried and failed with attempts of the following:

Pinching herself

Closing her eyes

Blinking fast

Rubbing her eyes

Wearing glasses

Commanding the person to stop being under her control

Putting contacts in

Slapping herself

But nothing even remotely worked; well except one thing that came close to working. It was an idea by Darline's and Karou's 7-year-old daughter, Mika. It was silly at first but then it started to make sense.

"Use the quirk on herself and figure out what eye color turns it off. Like a mood ring" Mika was a fucking genius.

(Y/n) spent the rest of the year practicing holding one color, and writing down all the colors she had in her eyes. She had a total of 13 colors.

She joked that the number 13 had made quirk unlucky... no one thought it was funny except her father.

They included:

Red- infatuation

Orange- attachment

Yellow- comfort

Green- physical affection

Purple- verbal conformation of love

Pink- love

Dark Brown- die for her

Grey- Shes the most important person

Black- blindly following and doing what is told

Silver- possessive

White- sexual attraction

Tan- feeling normal but still is controlled by her.

Gold- the release of her quirks hold

It took her 6 months to get the colors and their corresponding meanings. It was weird for her to test her eye color meanings on Darline, so her mom had a bad but good idea to post a quirk testing add. They would pay 50 dollars a session, which lasted 2 hours. A youngish boy, barely 25, had responded to the ad and soon he was (Y/n)'s personal training buddy, though he wouldn't do anything except sit there.

They had set rules to make sure (y/n) was safe from any harm. The first being the guy, Waion Tatuse, was unable to leave the chair. They said the reason was that her quirk was emotional manipulation and when people got angry they would attack her- which was a lie. There was no telling anyone about what was going on, for what was happening could get everyone included in trouble. At the end of the session (Y/n)'s mom used her quirk, without Waion knowing, changed his memories to fit something that had no relation to her real quirk.

After a few sessions, (y/n) was able to switch between colors with ease, and depending on how much power she had, she could mix multiple colors at once. She used her gold-colored eyes after every other color change. She wanted it to become second nature to be able to easily end her quirk when she was finished using it.

(Y/n) had finally got control of her complicated quirk. Though even when her quirk was canceled or she wore her mirror glasses, people still were under her spell. It was less extreme than before but since her quirk deals with others' attraction to her, the stronger that they were attracted to her the easier it was to control them. People would always be attracted to her no matter what she did. It came with penalties though- people would openly catcall her and do anything to get her attention.

She had to push it aside and keep focused on her ultimate goal; being the first Hero to help citizens from everything, not just attention-seeking villains. She wanted to show girls that you didn't have to be a tomboy or act like a strong man, that hero's could be feminine and feel good about themselves. She knew that there were other pro hero's doing the same thing but (y/n) still stuck with her goals.

One night during dinner, (y/n) wanted to talk about going to an actual school, she wanted to try out for UA. Or if she didn't get accepted Shiketusu the second-best school and possibly her favorite. But getting into UA basically sets you up for life in the hero world.

"Mom, Dad. I have something I need to ask you." (Y/n) set down her chopsticks and looked her parents in the eyes (wearing her glasses even though her quirk didn't affect them much only with being under her control).

"Of course, darling. You know you always can." Her mother said, reaching across to pat her daughter's head.

"I know it's sudden and everything but there's a year to think about this so I don't need an answer now... I want to try out for a hero school- mostly UA Academy and Shiketusu High School." (Y/n) held her head up never looking down. A trait Darline taught her to make her look like a confident woman even when she wasn't.

"Excuse me?" (Y/n)'s mother said in a low voice that gave her the chills.

"After everything that happened, I want to help protect the people in a way that other Pros don't. I want to help people avoid situations like mine." Her father nodded, taking her feelings and logic into consideration.

"No way, little girl. Do you understand what you're asking of us- of me?"

"Yes, I do. I know what I went through, the surgery's, the time in the hospital, everything. I want to stop others from experiencing the same thing." (Y/n) slightly rose her voice, not exactly matching her mother's loudness but close.

"Do you really think you could be a hero? With a quirk like yours?" Her mother yelled flinging her arms out to make her argument seem stronger.

"Ksaia, understand what (y/n) is saying. There's no point in getting angry when we have time to think about it." Her father soothed his wife.

"No, Inako! (Y/n) hasn't even come close to normalcy because of her quirk! You think she'll be safe around other people with strong quirks that actually work for them!"

"What are you saying, mom? Do you think I'm weak? That I can't protect myself out there? You believe that so much that you won't even let me try?" (Y/n) asked her mother with a tone that spoke volumes.

"Yes! I think you can't defend yourself because all your quirk allows you to do is have people in awe of you only because of your eyes! What happens when you can't use them? You can't fight! You can't run fast! You can't do anything!" Her mother stood from the table in a threatening stance.

"I can manipulate people who are attracted to me! I can get them to do whatever I say! How does that count as being unable to defend myself? I'm old enough to choose what I do with my life! I can learn to fight! I can build up my endurance! What's so wrong with me being a hero?" (Y/n) stood up from her seat too and knocked it over with a defining sound of wood snapping.
