"Girls! That's enough!" Inako yelled as he slammed his hands down on the table.
"Stay out of this Inako!"
"Stay out of this Dad!"
"You know what? Since you insist on being a big girl I'll tell you why you can't be a hero! I'll give you an example! Check your side! Check your back! You will never be able to defend yourself from people even when your quirk is in use!" Her mother yelled as she ran her fingers through her hair.
"Are you kidding me! I was 11! I didn't know how to use my quirk! How dare you even bring my appearance into this! Is that what you really think? That I'm so ugly with my scar!" (Y/n) pulled off her glasses and threw them on the floor smashing them under her boot.
"Sakaru (middle) (y/n)! What did you just do! You're grounded! Go to your room, do not come out until I say so!" Her father scolded and pointed to the area her room was.
"Screw you!" (Y/n) looked her father in the eye before she swung her hands up and then to her parents in a way that dismissed them. Yet- that's not what happened. Her dish from dinner had been thrown at her parents missing them and hitting the middle between them. Food stuck to the wall, slid, and fell to the wood floor. All three members stood still.
"Was that you dad..." (y/n) panted out the adrenaline that was in her veins from the fight with her mother made her body feel cold.
"No..." He said just as shaken.
"(Y/n) you did this. What did you do..." her mother asked in an upset and disappointed voice.
"I- I didn't. I couldn't. I-uh. I." (Y/n) started to panic. This couldn't be another problem she had to deal with. There were already so many that hurt everyone around her. She hurt herself most of all. Her head started to feel like a balloon that was swaying in the wind. Her eyes went blurry and she couldn't see even when she blinked. She took a step back but couldn't support herself. She fell to the ground, hitting her head on the side of the coffee table on her way down.
"(Y/n)... wake up." (Y/n) scrunched her eyes shut before she blinked fast trying to get used to the light around the room.
"Mom? Dad?" (Y/n) saw that she was in her room in her bed.
"How are you feeling? You took quite a fall, darling." Her father asked as he put a bandaid over the disinfectant on the cut above her temple. Her mother was at the foot of the bed rubbing her hand on her calf to help soothe her stress.
"You guys aren't mad at me?" (Y/n) asked as she sat up on the bed.
"I'm not mad, never was until you broke your glasses. Your mother though..." he looked at the older woman.
"I know honey. I may have overreacted when you asked to go to... hero school. I may have said somethings that weren't exactly how I wanted my points to come across. I'm sorry it came out that way. I think we should have an actual discussion about you wanting to go to a hero school."
(Y/n) thought her mother, for once, would apologize for what she said and the 'points' she made. She should've known better.
"In the meantime, we should talk about what happened at dinner." Her father started. It looked like he would be in control of this talk, for once her mother would be calm about this, like other times when her husband would get involved. "It seems like there is another development with your quirk. You have been practicing with differentiating how you affect people but this time, your eyes had a different appearance."
"What are you talking about? Dad?" (Y/n) had no idea what was going on and why her parents looked so shaken.
"They had a bit of every color... all of them that you had individually made a circle that didn't have an actual color scheme, more randomized. When you looked at me, I could clearly see the change in your cornea. I felt the change in you when you're using your black eyes. I'm thinking you're making people give you their quirks..."
"it was your small object telepathy... I threw the plate. Oh my god." (Y/n)s eyes watered but she tilted her head back so they wouldn't fall. "I'm sorry..." (y/n) whispers to the room. To the air. To her belongings. To her mom. To her dad. To her body. To her mind. She didn't want to add more shit to her already messed up life.
"There is nothing to be sorry about. We just need to get your emotions under control. Trust me, this is the best option for you." Her mother says for the first time in the few minutes that her father spoke.
"Thanks, mom." (Y/n) smiled. Lips closed but eyes faking an actual squint that comes with a real smile. Her mother kissed the top of her head and left the room saying something about having to finish typing up a work proposal.
"Listen, kiddo. Your mother is terrified of losing you. You almost died 4 years ago."
"It's going to be 5 years in like a month... I don't get it. Wouldn't she want me to be normal and not be scared of everything in the world?"
"I know your mother is a handful. I agree with you that you're old enough to pick your career. You need to fine-tune your quirk before that even happens. Now we know that you can copy someone's quirk because they love you as your family does, or they're under your influence." Her father rubbed her back and ran his hand over her right back which held a piece of her large scar.
"Can you talk mom into letting me just try out? UA and Shiketsu high are really hard to get into. I have a slim chance to get enrolled anyway! It's not like I will be accepted to the actual academies." (Y/n) pleaded with her dad, giving him puppy dog eyes.
"Alright, but no more fighting with her. She won't even think about it if you slip up." Her father got up from her bed and walked to her door. "About what your mother said, your scar is not even close to ugly. It shows how strong you are because you are my daughter. You're the undefeatable Sakaru (y/n)." With that, her father walked out. Leaving (y/n) to stuff her head into a pillow and let out a small scream, that even she couldn't hear. Her mouth tasted salty from all the tears that soaked the pillow.
(Y/n) had to wait for three months before the UA exams were held and a week after that for the Shiketsu exams. Only then did her mom and father sit her down in the living room to talk.
"We have been thinking... it's only a test. I'm sure that if you feel overwhelmed, that you can find a place to hide or just leave. You have yet to break any of our trust." Her mother took a deep breath to get prepared for what she was going to say. All the while (y/n) thought about how she was practicing her quirk stealing with Darline and Karou behind her mother's back.
"Your mother is trying to say, you can attend the exams for the hero schools. We sent out your applications already" Her father finished.
"Really! Thank you! Thank you! I promise I'll make you proud! Thank you!" (Y/n) ran and hugged both of her parents at once before she ran to her room to text her only friend, Darline.
They had made plans to go to a hidden beach, it was hidden from the trash that was dumped there, and have (y/n) practice coping Darline and Karous quirk while trying to maneuver around the trash.
It was the next day that they went to the beach. It was the early morning and because (y/n) was homeschooled, she could leave anytime.
"Okay, let's get to it. I'm going to rase up sand at random bit only tall enough for you to barely jump it. Karou will try to slow you down by building pressure in front of you. The faster you can get though that the easier regular running will be. Got it?" Darline asked as she set (y/n) at around a mile back. The two adults would walk next to her to try to trip her up with their quirk and trash.
"I'm ready. Let's go." Y/n had worn baggy sweatpants and a baggy shirt, with full face coverage when she left her house. When she got to the beach she had stripped down to biker shorts with running shorts over them. She did have a sports bra on but Over that she only had a sleeveless top that, when she bounced or lifted her arms, showed her large scar. The two adults had never fully seen the scar but it was way larger than they ever thought. They shared a look silently thinking about Kaisa's reasons and maybe she had the right to be that concerned.
"Go on three, 1. 2. 3!" (Y/n) took off sprinting but fell on her ass when she ran into a force that no one could see.
"Fuck that!" (Y/n) yelled in frustration.
"The time is still going!" Karou yelled.
(Y/n) got up and this time used her forearms to push against the barrier without hurting herself when she ran. It felt like pushing 50 pounds of pure bricks. She was swearing like a sailor as her frustrated state grew.
She heard a crunch, then she tripped face-first into the sand. "What was that!" (Y/n) yelled at Darline.
"I told you that would happen! You need to keep going it's been 10 minutes and you've barely moved!"
(Y/n) felt like she was dying. Her calf's hurt like she was having 30 cramps at once. Her forearms felt like they were bruising. She was sweaty and her body was slipping with every step.
"Listen! Use your hands to push! Lock at the elbows! Dig into the sand! Only the first layer will move! This way you can push and see the floor!" Karou yelled out orders. He had his hands in tight fists keeping the same pressure in front of (y/n).
(Y/n) had switched her position and found it a bit easier to push, even going into a fast walk. She disassociated from her surroundings and only focused on the sand in front of her. A rise in the sand had her push the barrier as far as she could before she ran faster and jumped over the makeshift hurdle, her foot clipped the edge of the solid sand making her fall on her knees and smack her head in the barrier in front of her. "FUCK!" (Y/n) yelled scaring a few seagulls on the beach making them fly away.
Without being told to continue she brushed her hands off, not bothering to brush off the sand everywhere else on her body.
The two adults wanted (y/n) to stop and take a break and retry after. But they felt proud that she got up and continued running.
(y/n)'s frustration fueled her to go harder, go faster. She got lower on the block and started to actually run against it, while it still barely moved, she was getting the block to move faster. Another sand barrier separated her from the invisible force. She adapted from her last two failed attempts. She jumped over the sand and reached for the top of the force but she couldn't find it so she slid down, a screeching noise of fingers down glass echoed, then (y/n) continued to push against the force block.
"Yeah! That's how you do it! Keep going, (Y/n)! Almost there! Just a few more feet!" The married couple shouted words of encouragement as Darline raised the sand barrier a bit each time. When the sand became more often Darline made smaller walls than the ones before.
"Two more feet! One more! YES! You're done!" Karou dropped the force that (y/n) was leaning on since her legs stopped working the minute she stopped moving, she fell face-first into the sand getting a good-sized serving in her mouth and stomach.
"Oooo... that's gotta hurt." Darline jokes as she turned (y/n) on her back as she helped the teen brush the sand off of her face and hair.
"What's my time?" (Y/n) asked, spitting out sand, then covering it with more sand.
"28.36. It's not bad for the first try. And for 12 feet. You can do better but first, we need to bulk you up, lady." Darline grabbed (y/n)'s under muscled arms, while Karou grabbed her soft calf.
"Okay, okay! I get it. I'll start to work out more." (Y/n) pouted to her second parents.
Darline pushed both people sitting on the ground with her foot. They looked at her with goofy smiles on their faces. "Do you see that or am I getting old?"
"You're already old- OW! I'm your husband you can't hit me!"
"No! I mean on the top of the junk over there... is that who I think it is?" Darline nudged her head in the direction of what she was talking about.
"Oh, no way. Is that All Might?" (Y/n) asked as she pushed her back off of the sand. "Who's the shrimp with green hair?"
"Don't speak like that! It's rude and not what a propper woman would do." Darline kicked sand at (y/n) getting more in her mouth.
"The more you both put sand in my mouth is only going to make me like the taste. It's going to be your fault when all I can eat is sand!" (Y/n) ignored the Pro hero and curly-haired boy. She didn't think it was relevant to her person, after all, she didn't think much about the current generation of hero's- with a few exceptions.
"Do you have a volume button on you?" Karou said as he ticked the sides of her stomach making her kick and scream with laughter.
"I'm- g-ooo! Go-ing t-to kill y-you!" (Y/n) laughed trying to will her body to kick him off. She could hear Darline laughing at her too and vowed that she would be next on her list.
(Y/n) pushed Karou off of her and crawled away from him. She took the time to catch her breath before her eyes shined a more dangerous gold. "You're so dead!" (Y/n) started at chase after Karou who sprinted in the other direction yelling jokingly.
"Think of this as part of your training, (y/n)!" Darline yelled as she sat down on the sand watching her husband and who she liked to think of as her second daughter mess around.
"I doubt that everyone else's training includes being tickled! I don't think I've ever seen a criminal tickle anyone!" (Y/n) called back before tripping over her own feet. "Karou! You did not just trip me!"
"It's just training!" He yelled as he tried to trick (y/n) out and run around her. (Y/n) followed Karou with her eyes. But there was a color (y/n) didn't expect to see among the cool tones of the beach.
Green. A dark green that a person could have passed off as black if you didn't look hard enough. The green fluff had a body too. It was the same boy (y/n) made fun of earlier who was standing with All Might. The boy was faced toward (y/n), this was the first time (y/n) had seen his face. It was hard to see the actual features from the distance but he looked kind. He looked nervous or tense but his stance showed determination. She had seen his chin tilt down and it almost looked like he was starring at (y/n) too.
Darline saw (y/n) starring, at what- who knew? She laughed to herself at the fact (y/n) zoned out, she took the opportunity to push a sand barrier from under her feet to send her falling onto her butt.
"WHAT THE-" (y/n) yelled before she hit the ground mid-sentence, knocking her breath out of her lungs. Her face flushed from the embarrassment of taking that nasty fall, especially when she knew someone was watching her and caught her staring at him.
"Oh, man! We gotta work on your reflexes." Karou jogged over to (y/n) unaware of whatever had (y/n) distracted.
"Oh sorry! I never thought she'd fall that hard! You're not bruised or bleeding are you?" Darline had run to meet the other two to check on (y/n).
"Yeah I'm fine, only my self-esteem is bruised. I'm just sore and tired from today." (Y/n) rubbed her back, smiling to convince everyone she's fine. "Let's get back for dinner yeah?"
The next few days (y/n) never seemed to have a schedule that matched the green-haired boy's own. One day she would be leaving as the boy came to the beach. Other times, she would be arriving and he would be leaving. But in the next week, it was like a form of destiny, if you even could call it that, that they would arrive at the beach around the same time.
The closest she ever came to him was when (y/n) was practicing with quick stealing quirks from a small glance, this time stealing Karous. The force had turned on her- (y/n) heard a yell from the pile of trash she had seen the boy in scaring her- the force had moved under her feet and sprung (y/n) up in the air taller than she could fall without getting hurt.
Her scream was long and frightened. The way she fell was out of people's nightmares. Hands griping for something to stop her fall. She came closer to the ground and prayed that somehow Karou could use his quirk to catch her, but it would hurt her just as much as her landing on the sand would.
Yet she felt a different type of force. (Y/n) had been pushed to the right, she felt her body being held, the sensation felt like falling down a roller coaster while safely buckled into a seat. A controlled landing had (y/n) shaking with adrenaline and gratitude.
As soon as she was set down her legs gave out and she fell on her butt in the sand. She clutched the sand in her hands to convince her that she was safe on the ground.
"Oh my god! (Y/n)!" Darline had run straight over to the teen but Karou was faster and picked up the girl into his arms hugging her strongly. "Oh, honey! I'm so glad you're safe! Thank you All Might!" Darline cried. Flashbacks of the day she met (y/n) haunting her head.
"I don't know what would've happened if you hadn't been here! Thank you for saving (y/n)!" Karou held (y/n) closer while Darline smoothed her hair down.
All Might's signature smile was comforting to the two adults. "No need to thank me, citizens! You know using quirks in public is forbidden, just promise me that you will not make this mistake again! For next time there might not be someone to keep you safe!"
(Y/n) lifted her head from the two adults comfortable embrace. "Thank you, sir." A lonesome tear fell halfway down her face before she wiped it off her face. This was the second time she came very close to death. And it absolutely sucked ass.
All Might recognized (y/n) the moment her shirt lifted as she fell to reveal her large scar. He knew about her story. He knew how terrible it would be if she had died just 5 years after her accident.
He had never met the girl before. He only knew about the situation. All Might smiled at the girl who was clearly traumatized and would be for years to come. He felt bad about what she went though- maybe this time he would take it easy on her. She was already scared enough.
The green-haired teen had run over but stayed a respectable distance from the scene. (Y/n) had looked past All Might to look at the teen for the first time close up. Too preoccupied with anxiety she didn't take in any detail besides vague details.
"Not to fear, young child! For I am here!" All Might yelled before he prepared to take off again. "I must be going! Remember what I said!" He took the teen in this hand and jumped further than (y/n) could ever imagine. Surprised yelling from the green-headed teen had made (y/n) smile a bit at the silly moment.
"No more quirk training until you learn complete control over your focus," Karou said sternly. (Y/n) could only nod.
The next few training sessions involved only muscle enhancement and meditation for cleaning the mind. When (y/n) believed she had focused on her mediation enough to restart quirk training, Darline and Karou tested her by yelling and trying every way to make her break her concatenation. She would take in the faint energy that she could feel with the absence of some of her senses and used that to sharpen her reflexes. It was a trying practice but it made controlling her quirk that much easier.
