"A-All Might! What are you still doing here? Sakaru thought you were some random guy spying on us! I had to tell her y-you're my u-Uncle because she thought you were my stalker!" Midoriya had started to panic once he reached Toshinori. He didn't know if there was something wrong or if Toshinori felt like Midoriya needed to be protected.
"Young Midoriya, calm down. I just don't trust Sakaru alone with you. You don't know who she really is." He had put his thin hand on Midoriya's shoulder.
"Y-you're wrong. She's nice. She's had a hard life a-and she hasn't done a-anything that was even closely mean. Why are you saying that?" Midoriya moved back from under the touch of his idol.
"Her quirk- it's not stable. She's dangerous-" Toshinori started.
"She told me about her quirk! I-it's not dangerous anymore. She's good, the quirk is good. She used it on me to-" Midoriya knew he was going to get it when Toshinori clenched his fists.
"She used her quirk on you! Do you know what could've happened! Do you know the extent of danger you could've been in!" Toshinori yelled in a way that it wouldn't reach (y/n), who was laying on her stomach playing on her phone.
"N-no, it's not like that All Might! She helped me! I... I can't explain it. All I know i-is that she only helped me! I remember what happened but she talked about her eyes changing colors but I didn't see that and when she said she canceled her quirk on me, I felt like I was floating." Midoriya started to mumble to himself about the way she had used and talked about her quirk.
"Young Midoriya, I believe it's time to leave." Toshinori tried to get Midoriya to walk away with him but Midoriya didn't move. He cursed in his head for implanting the strengthening of his will.
"I can't. I won't go with you... Sakaru is worried about you being here. You should leave..." Midoriya couldn't look his mentor in the eyes. He turned around to walk back to the beach and (y/n). He slowly shook off his nerves that made his hands shake.
Toshinori wasn't much better. He was confused as to why Midoriya would want to go back to Sakaru knowing that he didn't approve of the girl. Why did he set his mind to stay with Sakaru? Why had his last words to him only about wanting Sakaru to be unbothered? It just didn't make sense.
"Hey, curly fry. You're back. How'd it go with your uncle?" (Y/n) shut off her phone and gave her full attention to Midoriya.
"C-curly fry?" Midoriya laughed at the nickname. It was the first one he had that wasn't mean.
"Yeah! Curly like your unruly hair and fry like tiny. Not that you're tiny now, just when I first saw you, you looked super small from the distance." (Y/n) laughed nervously at her dumb words. It was true though, his body has bulked up and he looked more physically matured.
Midoriya didn't know she had been looking at him since the first time they had been at the beach on the same day... he had glanced at her when he heard people yelling on the garbage covered beach. "Y-yeah- I get it." He smiled at the (h/c) girl who wore a nervous smile.
"It's not like mean! I just didn't know your name and I just made one up when I- holy hell I'm saying a lot of things right now..." (y/n) had put her head on her knees and laughed anxiously.
"Heh-" Midoriya smiled cutely.
"But, yeah. Your talk with your uncle looked kinda intense if you don't mind me asking- did something happen?" (Y/n) didn't want to pry. On the contrary, she just wanted him to have someone to talk to. She knew what it felt like to be alone. Like she was not really listened to even when people were all around her.
Maybe that was why it was so easy, to be honest, and physically attentive. (Y/n) knew she didn't get the attention she wanted or even needed from her family or anyone. It was only about her quirk, her ability to control it for her 'own safety'. For her mom to always be included with every movement and breath she had.
"I- I don't think I want to talk about it right now. C-can we just..." Midoriya's voice faded and his face flushed from up his neck to every bit of his face.
"O-oh! Yeah. Yeah, it's good." (Y/n) smiled and lightly guided the shaking boy to relax on her lower thighs. There was only silence from both people. Their minds filled with thoughts about the unconventional day.
Midoriya has his little family, his mother who loves him unconditionally. But what happens outside of his house makes him feel alone. Maybe that's why he felt like everything was going to be better, to be good when he held onto a stranger he just met almost hours ago. Maybe that's why he trusted her enough to let his guard down enough to 'rest his eyes'.
All Might, In his regular form as Toshinori, returned to the place he left Midoriya and Sakaru. He had hoped that the girl would've left by now and Midoriya would forget about her. So why was he relived to see the two together? Why did he just stop and stare when he saw Sakaru petting his hair? Why didn't he do anything when Midoriya had hugged her waist like it was some ordinary pillow? Why did he feel proud of Midoriya when he overheard a conversation Sakaru started a few minutes after he had walked on the scene.
"Heyyy, Darline! Don't be mad but I probably won't be home tonight. Huh? No! Nothing like that, gosh! Midoriya just needs someone right now. Can you just tell mom I'm staying at your house? Yeah? Okay. I have to go, I don't want to wake him up, I don't think I've ever seen someone so relaxed or something... h-hey! Please don't say such inappropriate things. Fine. But only because you're covering for me. 'Oh Darline, Midoriya is the most beautiful and adorable person on the planet'. W-what? I was only saying that as a joke- you told me to- ... she hung up on me."
The same ringing of a phone buzzes in Midoriya's pocket. (Y/n) shook him a bit trying to wake him up. "Midoriya, your phone is ringing. Wake up." She was finally able to wake up the heavy sleeper and get him lucid enough to take the call.
"H-hello? Mom? I-I'm sorry! I didn't know what time it was! Uh-huh, yeah. No, I'm safe! D-don't worry! Y-yeah... I actually might not be home tonight," Midoriya looked at (y/n) for confirmation, the goofy girl nodded her head and gave a thumbs up. "Y-yeah I'll be home early tomorrow morning-" a huge yawn halted the conversation. "Okay, night." His voice sounded like he was already half asleep again.
Midoriya ended the call and plopped his head back onto (y/n)'s lap before getting comfortable and falling asleep again, not even thinking about his actions in his sleepy state.
(Y/n) thought he meant that they would just stay and talk all night but going to sleep was just as appealing. Yet in the next moment (Y/n) blushed and was kinda stunned at the shy boy's actions. Not thinking about it much or even in a way other than thinking it was normal in the real world. (Y/n) felt good-weird like in the same way that she would feel when she successfully got better with her quirk.
Maybe the feeling was the same reason (y/n) soothed Midoriya back to sleep when she moved to lay against the uneven sand that wasn't much better than sitting up, so she would not throw out her back. Maybe that's why she whispered terms of calmness to the boy- it was purely in a friendship way- to help put him back to sleep as he hugged her tighter. Maybe it was the same reason that (y/n) never stopped moving her hands until she couldn't lift her hands anymore.
Maybe it was the feelings in Midoriya that had him unbothered about tomorrow's troubles. About his bullies. About training for UA. About his mother being worried about where he is even when he had talked to her. She had told him that she had stopped using her quirk as soon as she got back, she wanted to be there as a friend, not someone who forced it out of him with her quirk. Maybe that's why he pretended to sleep at first so she wouldn't leave. Maybe that's the reason for holding on to her, so she couldn't leave like everyone else. He knew he shouldn't have listened to a private conversation but he couldn't help it. He could hear both people talking on the line. Maybe that's why he finally fell asleep in the most comfortable place he could be in at that moment.
The next day was started with Midoriya waking (y/n) up with mildly hard pressure on her stomach. "Oof! H-hey what's the big idea?" (Y/n) seemingly unbothered rolled to her side and kept sleeping.
"Uh! W-what?" Midoriya wasn't exactly expecting what he woke up to. His face planted firmly on a firm but slightly lenient stomach with his body laying away from her own. He jumped off of her and crawled away a good five feet. He didn't expect (y/n) to ignore him and continue sleeping on the hard sand. Midoriya's nose started to bleed from how much blood had rushed to his face.
(Y/n) had lifted her arms over her eyes to block out the bright sun. "I feel like I'm dying." (Y/n) groaned sitting up and stretching out her entire body. "Um, morning Midoriya... how'd you sleep." It was weird for (y/n) just like it was for Midoriya.
"F-fine. H-how did you s-sleep?" Midoriya couldn't look at (y/n) out of pure embarrassment.
"My shoulders are a bit tense but other than that I'm feeling fine. Do you know what time it is? I don't remember where I put my phone..." (y/n) ran her hands up and down the sand around her looking for the metal and glass device.
"Y-yeah! It's 9:16."
"Oh, shit- my mother's going to have a heart attack. I gotta go like right now. Um here's my number, if you ever want to talk or hang out or train together sometimes." (Y/n) wrote her number down in the sand before grabbing her phone, which was under the yoga mat, then she just yelled goodbye and something about holding on to the mat until they met again.
"Yeah- bye!" Midoriya waved back. He watched (y/n) sprint across the sand tripping on the sand's bumps a few times because of her tired state before she completely faded from his eyesight.
(Y/n) had reached the parking lot of the beach and called Darline's number. "H-hey! I need a favor! Yes, another one! Yeah fine! I need you to keep your story straight with mine! Tell mom that I decided to walk home and kept on the phone with you the whole time! Yes, I'm running! Yeah! Bye!" (Y/n)s breath was getting shorter in puffs. Her legs weren't tired yet and she was fast but her lungs were dying on her.
She had finally reached her house and saw her mother standing outside the door with a worried look on her face. "Sakaru (y/n)! Where were you! You're late for coming home! We had an agreement for you to keep with the rules even during your training." Her mother scolded as she held her daughter at arm's length.
"I know mom, I'm sorry! I wanted to walk home so I could get in some light workout. Don't worry though! Darline stayed on the phone with me… I promise!" it was a lie, her phone had died immediately after she ended her conversation with Darline. Even if she wanted to stay on the phone she couldn't.
"Let's get you inside. I think you've been outside enough for now. Your dad made breakfast, it's your favorite."
"Yeah, okay..." (y/n) walked into the house and said hi to her father and hugged him. She postponed her breakfast and instead walked up the stairs and into her room. She took off the baggy gray clothes she had hurriedly put on when she was running home and switched into jeans and a more comfortable cute sweatshirt. "Jeez, ill just take a shower later."
(y/n) flopped down on her bed and plugged her phone into her charger. It would take a while for it to even turn on since it completely died. She went to the bathroom to brush her teeth, comb her hair, wash her face, and use mouthwash. (Y/n) walked back downstairs finally ready to face her mother and what she knew would be an hour-long scolding.
"Ahhh. There's the lady of the hour now. Come eat breakfast, I made fruit salad and mini pancakes." (Y/n)'s dad patted her head. Sand had fallen out and onto the kitchen floor. Her dad shot her a look but not daring to say anything while his wife could hear. "We can talk later about how your training is going."
"Yeah, dad. I'm ready to eat right now though!" (Y/n) smiled to her mom and let her pull (y/n) into the seat next to hers.
"Did you have fun at the Kodaco house?" (Y/n)'s mom asked as she served (y/n) herself.
(y/n) was starting to get frustrated with her mother's actions. The babying. The talking down to. She now felt what the world was about, she felt it with her dad, with the Kodaco's, even with Midoriya. "Yeah. It was nice to have fun with them after training all day." Or maybe it was the lack of comfortable sleep that left her more irritated than normal.
"that's nice to hear. You know there's only a little more than 3 weeks until the entrance exams. You need to start studying for the written test, and not just messing around with your quirk." Ksaia said as she started to eat her food.
"Uh- What do you mean like about messing around with my quirk?" (Y/n) wanted to just brush off her comment but it was hard. All the hard work and all the aching nights. The blisters, bruises, pulled and twisted muscle was not going to be washed away by her selfish mother.
Every day (y/n) came home a just a bit prouder of furthering her quirk. It was all pushed aside as just a silly and unimportant and (y/n) was tired of it.
"Oh, honey. I just meant that at some point we have to accept that, as you said, there is a low chance for you even getting in." (Y/n) had continued eating to keep herself from arguing with her mom.
"I did say that." (Y/n) nodded her head and bit the metal fork harder.
"Alright. Now finish your food then take a shower." Ksaia finished her plate and moved to take (y/n)'s own from her.
"I got it, mom. I'm old enough to be able to take my dishes to the sink." It was a subtle way to remind her mom that she could be her own person.
"Oh? Alright." The loud clang from her putting the plate back down gave (y/n) anxiety. But That was exactly what (y/n) was expecting from her mother. It was harsh but she was allowing (y/n) to try out for hero schools. (Y/n) would keep her comments in her head for once.
