Chapter 5 - *****

The next day, (y/n) went to the beach by herself. She had told her overprotective mom that she was going with Darline, who was reluctant to cover for her. She was still upset at the way (y/n) acted with All Might.

She wouldn't do anything strenuous today, she just wanted a quiet and secluded place to relax. (Y/n) had brought her yoga mat with her to set down on the sand. (Y/n) had sat and wished that she had a physical quirk that let her connect to something instead of people connecting to her; leaving her to feel like she was missing a piece.

(Y/n) closed her eyes and listened to the waves crash on the shoreline. (Y/n) thought about how the beach looked like it was getting cleaner, maybe she was just imagining it from stress. Who would know where the beach is and actually try to clean up the dump.

"Sakaru?" A quiet voice from a large distance away spoke so he wouldn't startle her.

"Huh? Oh, it's you... sorry about yesterday. I shouldn't have acted that way." (Y/n) only looked at the teen when she first acknowledged him, the rest of the time facing the ocean.

"It's o-okay! I think I understand..." Midoriya stood there for a bit. Awkward radiated off of him in waves. He had questions but didn't want to just intrude on her.

"Would you want to sit down with me? I find it relaxing to just stop and listen to the ocean." (Y/n) slid over on the yoga mat to give him room to sit.

"A-ah. S-sure." The nervous boy, who (y/n) noticed was much more built than when she first saw him, sat next to her.

The prolonged silence was now filled with the crashing waves, it didn't feel so weird now. Even if they were closer than ever before.

"Is there any particular reason that you came over? Not that I mind! I was just so rude yesterday, I wouldn't want to talk to me!" Yeah, not the best way to have a first polite conversation with someone. "Sorry, I'm a bit odd..." (y/n) wasn't going to tell him she hadn't had real human contact since she was 9, fuck that.

"I- I have questions about what you said yesterday. Y-you don't have to answer them if you don't want to!" Midoriya shook his hands and turned to look at (y/n).

(Y/n) had her reflexive glasses on reducing the effects on Midoriya that came with her quirk. When she had her eyes out in the open it worked like normal but without putting people under her control. "No. It's fine... I just didn't think, whoever All Might is to you, wanted you to talk to me about it. It's not the prettiest of stories." (Y/n) lightly laughed as she looked at Midoriya's face. She could look into his eyes but even though he couldn't, it felt like he was looking her in the eyes too. "Um- ask away."

"How did you get help?" He kept eye contact with (Y/n) which no one did, even if it was blindly staring at her glasses. It was nice but also made (y/n) uncomfortable in a bashful sort of way.

"Well I don't exactly remember much of the exact timeline but I remember I had to climb through the forest area of the path to get to people faster. It took a while I think... there was a ton of blood that I lost that day so I can't remember the exact details but I was told that I had screamed for help before collapsing on my knees and tumbling to my side. A woman and her husband had found me and tried to help. It's the same people that were with me yesterday; I don't remember a time after this incident that they weren't around. Anyway, they called an ambulance but they didn't think it was a big deal or something and told them it would be 20 minutes before they got there. At least that's what I was told" (y/n) shrugged at the boy and gave him a goofy smile. She awkwardly tried to crack her back by twisting, her eyes clipped over the figure of a blonde, skinny, sickly-looking man who was staring at her. (Y/n) scrunched up her face and turned back around to the teen. She was used to people starring at her but this felt more intense.

"Why wouldn't the paramedics come sooner?" His slight anger, if you could call it that, made (y/n) feel better about how she was treated. It was five years ago but this was the first time she told an outsider, as her mother liked to call people, the full story.

"You're asking the same questions everyone else did. Uh, this is where it gets a little scary. The lady who first helped me, Darline Kodaco, called for help too. I guess people came to see and then others gathered around to see the child dying in the street. I mean I wasn't really dying until like after 10 minutes after that. I mean you would've thought pro heroes would see the huge crowd and see what's up. But no hero even walked down the street in the 15 minutes that I was on the ground for. This one lady, my family has tea with her and her son sometimes, she took off her heels and sprinted down the sidewalk for at least 3 minutes screaming for a pro hero to help before an actual hero came to see what was wrong. Funny enough the hero's came from inside their agencies. She told me that they fought against going with her for a minute or so until they started to run with her. When the hero's got there, not to freak you out but there was like heaps of blood on the floor that mostly everyone had stepped in it whether they wanted to or not. Why it took like three minutes for a hero to actually slow the bleeding, I don't know. I do remember waking up at the moment she, Midnight, put terribly hard pressure on it. I was able to tell them I was shot but it came out as if I was missing all of my teeth!" (Y/n) laughed and looked at the boy who was tearing up. As she stopped talking, a few tears fell down his freckled cheeks.

Toshinori could vaguely see the compassion in Sakaru's eyes and body language, he would let her take care of his young student for the time being- but he wouldn't be leaving anytime soon.

"Oh my gosh! I didn't mean to scare you! I'm not dead and I'm perfectly fine. There a happy ending to this story. Don't cry!" (Y/n) slid on her knees to turn to the boy. Which hurt like hell from the damage they took from her fall when she was 11- it would always be there- and she pulled the emotional boy into a hug. She patted his back in a way another guy would do to his other guy friend.

"I-I'm sorry! I do-don't mean to cry." Midoriya sniffled from his tears and blushed at the contact with the pretty girl.

"Nonono! It's okay! I didn't mean to make you sad or anything." It was another minute before (y/n) pulled back to see a still crying boy. "If you want, I can help you calm down. It's apart of my quirk, it won't hurt or anything at all, pinky promise!" (Y/n) stuck her pinky finger out and he hooked his own around hers.

"O-okay, I trust you." His face was flushed from crying and (y/n)'s beauty. (Y/n) took off her glasses and set them down in her lap.

"Ready?" She asked as she held his face to line up their eyes. He only nodded too embarrassed to talk. (Y/n) blinked and her eyes that were once gold turned yellow. The color of sunflowers or yellow daisies. It brought warmth to his being.

"C-can I h-hug you a-again..." he whispered, looking at the ground. (Y/n) laughed and held out her arms. It was weird to see how other people, besides her family, reacted to her quirk. This one she knew didn't change their personality but only the way that made (y/n) feel like 'home'. It helped get people to tell her things that they usually wouldn't

"What's your name? I can't just keep calling you curly fry in my head... not that I'm like thinking about you or anything!" (Y/n) definitely needed human contact outside of her family. She was going nuts and panicking from her inability to keep her mouth shut.

"Midoriya Izuku." He mumbled into her shoulder, since she had on a thin sweater on for training even though we only planned to relax or at the most work on her ever-growing ability for gymnastics.

"I know it's a lot, but there isn't any damage done. In the end, the incident actually helped heroes keep more people safe. Ya'know?" (Y/n) offered. Her knees getting sore from putting pressure on them.

"I- I know. It's just- you shouldn't have had to go through that! It's not fair." Midoriya sounded as he was closely involved with the incident itself.

"Well, I believe everything happens for a reason. The reason for that? If it didn't happen then I wouldn't have had the newfound conviction to become a hero for the people. For those who are not just hurt by fame-seeking villains. Not that I want to go through that again, but I wouldn't change the past." (Y/n) squeezed Midoriya tighter before letting go completely.

"You want to be a hero? I do too! I'm training to apply to UA!" With the quirk in effect still, it made it easier for Midoriya to talk to (y/n).

"That's amazing! So am I! I'm also applying to Shiketsu as a backup, I like Shiketsu better but if you're in UA then you're basically set in the hero world for life."

"Is that why you're always here? Are you training for the entrance exam?" Midoriya knew that was exactly what it was, but he didn't want to stop talking to (y/n).

"Oh yeah! Darline and Karou have offensive quirks so we use that to strengthen my quirk and build muscle!" (Y/n) jokingly flexed her arms, which surprisingly had defined muscle but not enough to overly look bulky. "Does your training included cleaning up the beach? As long as I've been coming here I see less and less trash and more of the beach."

"Y-yeah. It's not just that but it's part of it." Midoriya chuckled and shyly rubbed the back of his neck.

"So you're thinking of going to UA? Is that your first choice? I mean there's like different schools... but UA is super cool and all!"

"Wha- how can you say that! I'll have to show you my hero journal sometime to show you all the amazing things at UA!" Midoriya after realizing that he talked too much about nerdy things, rubbed that back of his head. "S-sorry. I tend to r-ramble a lot..."

"Oh my gosh, I don't mind at all Midoriya! After my quirk manifested, my mom isolated me. I'm glad I get to talk to you this much!" (Y/n) bumped his shoulder with hers lightly and friendly.

"Why did your mom do that?"

"Do what?"

"Isolate you?" (Y/n) didn't even realize she let it slip, that's what you get when you've never held a regular conversation with another person out of your family.

"Uh- my quirk is weird. It's hard to explain but it's like I can use my eyes to control people and emotions I guess? Like I can't get them to do everything- I have a specific list of things I can do. A part of it is getting people comfortable with me, which is what I'm using on you currently." (Y/n) laid back against the sand, her arms resting on her forehead even though she was wearing her glasses that shield her eyes from the sun.

"Why did that make your mom isolate you?" He had copied (y/n)'s relaxed position. Even with her glasses in the effects were still there but lesser than before.

"Well, I couldn't control the way my quirk had affected people. It was getting a bit too much for me and that's basically it. My mom is a bit overprotective with me, her only child. She just homeschooled me to this day." (Y/n) made finger guns at the sky, pretending to shoot the sky.

"Jeez. You didn't miss much- you were able to avoid bullies and the terrible cafeteria food." (Y/n) laughed at Midoriya's words. He didn't think he was trying to be funny enough to make her laugh hard but he liked the way she laughed, maybe he would try to make her laugh more...

"What about you? Tell me all about the Great and Mighty Midoriya! What's your quirk?" (Y/n) smiled at the setting sun. Relaxed and comfortable with just laying in the sand with a new friend.

"Uh- w-well there's not much to tell! My life is pretty normal!" Midoriya's attempt to be subtle and nonchalant failed miserably, only coming out as panicked and rushed.

"Oh come on, Midoriya! It can't be that normal. For crying out loud, All Might is always with you when I see you." (Y/n) laughed and tapped his arm with the back of her hand.

"Um! I- it's not like w-what you're thinking! It's-" honking of a car horn drowned out Midoriya's words making it look like he explained himself, (y/n) not wanting to say she didn't hear him, just nodded her head and pretended that she knew what he said.

"(Y/n)! Let's go!" Karou's loud voice yelling stretched from the parking lot to the edge of the beach's waterline.

(Y/n) blushed in embarrassment at his actions. "I'm sorry! I- uhh I'll be right back." (Y/n) hid her face from Midoriya as she quickly walked to the car where the Kodaco parents sat.

"What are you doing? Who is that?" Karou asked as he stuck his head out the driver's side window.

"Oh my gosh! You're so loud, please be quiet!" (Y/n) hushed him so Midoriya couldn't hear them- but he still totally did- and to save her the embarrassment. "Darline, can I stay a bit longer? The kid from yesterday and I are talking. It's kinda fun to talk to an actual person my age- not that you guys aren't amazing! You totally are! It's just Midoriya and I are becoming friends and it could be my first real friend! Please can I stay longer?" (Y/n) folded her hands in clasped prayer hands.

Darline understood the situation and what (y/n) meant even if she didn't herself because of how much she was isolated all her life. "Go for it. If you want to be picked up by us later, just call. Be safe, you have your phone and pepper spray, yes?"

"Yes! Thank you!" (Y/n) kissed each adult on the cheek and ran to the area she was just inA but slowed to a cool walk before sitting back down with the teen boy.

"She's nuts. You're nuts. What is it with you today?" Karou rolled his eyes, he knew not to question his wife though.
