Chapter 6 - Black Market

Every step they took Eguru noticed how the black market got more and more disturbing. At the beginning of the road they only sold illegal substances. Now, he was starting to see weapons and human organs.

All of these people looked like normal citizens even though they clearly weren't. They were criminals at some point.

"How far do we have to go until we get there? I'm starving. Haven't eaten for too long." Eguru was losing patience. Verzo kept quiet. Though Eguru didn't expect it, even the Black Market looked cyperpunk-ish. Or at least modern.

Another ten minutes had passed when they finally stood in front of a old, ``cheap-looking`` house. Verzo just opened the door as if the owned the place. He then took a left and Eguru followed him. A lot of people sitting at a table were staring at him like he was some kind of attraction at a zoo. It was uncomfortable for him but he beared with it.

Verzo then got greeted by an old man filling two glasses with beer. "We need a license for this man right here. He doesn't have one" Verzo explained. The old man just nodded and disappeared into another room.

People also stopped staring at Eguru which made him calm down a bit. Five minutes later the man came back with a formular that had to be filled out.

"Write down your name, date of birth, your place of birth... You know, everything needed"

Eguru did not understand a single word he said. He was speaking another language.

Verzo looked and Eguru and understood the situation. "I forgot you didn't speak this country's language. He said you'd have to write down your information. Date of birth, name, and so on."

Something was off. 'How can he speak english and understand me if this country speaks another language...?' Eguru grew a little suspicious of him.

Not showing any reaction, he grabbed the pen and formular and filled it out. 'Hold on... If they speak another language.. Don't they have other letters too?'

He glanced at Verzo. "I don'-"

"I get it. You don't know how our alphabet works. Give me your information. I'll write it down." He made a gesture with his hands telling Eguru to give him the pen.

The twenty-year old man hesitated at first but then handed over the pen to Verzo. "You already know my name. It's spelled exactly as you'd say it outloud. For my date of birth... What do you use for these?"

Verzo sighed. 'Didn't think it would be that hard, geez...' "My birthday is the 26th of Martius.. The 3rd month of the year. What's yours? And how old are you?" he asked putting his hands on the counter.

"My birthday would be the 9th of the 9th month. I'm 21." Eguru kept his reply short. "Septemberus 9th, 897, 2nd sacrifice..." Verzo then mumbled.

He wrote it on the paper and gave it to the old man who was once again gone for a few minutes. Shortly after he came back with a license. "750 thousand", he said harshly. Verzo slammed his fists against the table beside him. "What?! You're tryin' to scam me!" Verzo snapped.

Attention was now again on Eguru and him. "I need to keep my business alive too, you know", the old man grinned maliciously. "I'm not going to pay. Just give me the license." Both have gone quiet.

Eguru just kinda stood there nervously and saw how Verzo lost his temper. A few seconds later someone pulled up and stood right in front of the young man. The man wore black clothing and was tall. Intimidating. "You're not getting anything in life free little boy. Pay up."

'He's taller than Verzo. Probably around 6'3..' Eguru guessed. He was not planning on interfering.

"I won't", Verzo hissed and moved so quickly, no one could really see what was happening.

Everyone in the building was stunned. The next thing Eguru saw was blood on the floor, counter and on Verzos clothes. The tall man slowly walked backwards and lost his balance. Verzo had stabbed him in the stomach. Eguru looked over and also realized the old man was not there anymore.

Stepping forward he found him dead on the floor. Blood was spreading all over the ground. In an instant Verzo killed two people. "Stupid piece of shit. Shouldn't have been to cocky..." he looked down on the dead body.

It was the first time Eguru saw someone kill in front of him. It was brutal and he was starled and unsettled at once. Verzo looked at Eguru and saw the look on his face, then wiped off the blood on his sharp knife.

'A butterfly? He killed them without hesitation? Can I really trust this man any longer? Who is he?' so many thoughts rushed into Eguru's mind. Simply put, he was confused and disturbed.

The entire bar went dead silent. Everyone looked at Verzo. Some were angered, some scared and some didn't even look bothered at all...
