Putting away the knife, and grabbing the ID, Verzo left quietly. Eguru of course followed him. He still couldn't really process what just happened and his appetite was now gone too.
Sure he'd seen many dead people in the wilderness, even how animals killed each other or how they hunted humans. However, seeing a human kill another one was new to him.
After taking a while to calm down he finally confronted Verzo about his murder. "Why did you kill them?" He said looking down at the ground. "Because there was no other option." "You could've negotiated!" Eguru wanted to correct him but Verzo didn't let him. "No. He just wanted all of the money. Didn't you see the look on his face? He wanted to provoke me." Verzo still was angered about before.
After a while they left the Black Market and were back to lively streets.
Eguru thought about the young man's words for a while and let them sink in. Finally, he wanted to clarify one thing. "Can I really trust you?"
He stopped walking forward and with a serious gaze, his eyes met Verzos. Letting out a sigh he tried to sound as honest as possible. "You do not have to trust me. But I can assure you, I don't try to manipulate or hurt you. I'm only helping you out since you're new here." He paused for a second and laid his back at a wall. He calmed down again.
"Also. Another reason to kill them was that we were inside of a Black Market. Everything happening there is illegal and not even crimes get reported since absolutely no one cares. It's available for everyone but not necessarily suited for everyone."
Verzo was done talking and just waited for Eguru to continue this conversation. He didn't want to harm Eguru in any way as that man knew how it was to be new in Raiherd. Arriving in this kingdom can be hard and especially if you do not have any support. His intentions were by no means evil.
Yet he didn't ask for Eguru to accept him. He looked at all the graffiti that was sprayed onto buildings. Eguru however was in the process of making up his mind.
'So, what do I do? I'm 21 yet feel like I'm a newborn child unable to make decions. I know he's telling the truth about ''not having bad intentions with me''. But his identity is still bugging me. How does he happen to speak the exact same language I do? Who is he to have such good fighting skills?'
He wanted answers. Eguru took a few steps and stood beside Verzo who was still looking at other things. "First things first... I want answers. Who are you and why do you speak my language?"
Verzo's expression changed as soon as he heard Eguru ask him. He already expected that this would happen sooner or later. The two pairs of eyes then met each other. Eguru was calmly waiting for the other one to start talking.
"Before you ask me any questions as soon as I start explaining... Promise you won't ask any further than what I'll reveal to you. Everyone has secrets, or information which is better unspoken."
Eguru moved his head in agreement. "I promise." He was all ears. Verzo began telling a part of his story.
"Soo, where do I start? I guess the first thing you should know about me is that I am from a rather royal family but didn't quite get to enjoy the privileges I had because my parents never wanted me to think I'm better than anyone else. Also, I never got to play video games on a console or on pc before the age of 13. You don't know how excited I was to finally play games everyone was talking about. At the age of 16 I finally left them behind and left the town I grew up in. It's not too far from Legrandeus and is located north from here. And that's",
Verzo cleared his throat, "where life started to stab me in the back." He sat down, leaning against the wall of one of the skyscrapers behind them. Standing on both legs would be too tiring. Eguru did the same. "Just a few years ago, two to be exact, this city was in a poor state. The Black Market was bigger than ever and I was a part of it. I think you know where this is going right?"
Eguru didn't want to interrupt him so he just gave him a nod. "I've killed a lot of people. The first 9 months I spent here were awful. However it wasn't like the king was supporting the Black Market. There just was someone very powerful who luckily is now dead. Executed by the king himself. In this short period of time I had gathered many contacts and got to know a lot of people. More than half of them had criminal background. But it eventually got better. I'm still associated with people like those but I've met you, for example. The old man and the other guy in the bar I murdered before weren't like this until they decided to get rid of the business I had with them and found someone to replace me. Normally they would've sold me an ID for cheap but eh. You saw how it turned out. Well and the rest I don't really wanna talk about. And before I continue, how about we actually go eat something now? Didn't you tell me you were starving like an hour or two ago?" Verzo got up and kinda smiled at Eguru. "Sure. You just reminded me that I'm starving... You fucker", Eguru laughed.
They continued to insult each other and talk until they eventually ate fries. Eguru kept his promise to Verzo and did not ask him out about things he said he wouldn't want to talk about. In the evening Verzo took him to his place and showed Eguru a room he could use.
