The next day Eguru stood up rather late. All the events from yesterday had worn him out and naturally, he needed to get a lot of rest. His shoulder started to feel better too.
Verzo was already awake and sitting at an table when Eguru came into the room he put down his smartphone. 'Oh, they even have phones? That's nice', he thought.
"Good morning" they both said at the same time and looked at each other with wide eyes. This coincidence made them laugh. "So how'd you sleep? Was the bed I made available to you comfortable?" Verzo then asked as a nice host would. "Yeah, I slept amazingly well thanks to you. Appreciate it man. Didn't think you'd have a house that beatiful." he replied while taking a chair and sitting down too.
"Haha, it's not that amazing actually. There are apartments way more aesthetic than mine. I bought it for cheap when I had the money. That also was only about seven months ago, so it is quite new to me. Still haven't fully gotten used to living here, tho I am extremely glad I took the offer and bought it", he said happily.
"Wanna grab something to eat? I know about some well received restaurants. I have a lot planned today so we should fill our stomachs."
"Sure. What do your plans look like?" Eguru was curious. The moment he heard Verzo's answer though he knew that this was something rather hard to accomplish. "You're going to learn this country's language!" He announced with an amused expression on his face.
Eguru on the other hand was absolutely not looking forward to studying a foreign language from another world. The young man had already expected Eguru's reaction and just shrugged. "Let's go eat now", he said while getting up and putting on his shoes.
After a while of walking across the city they finally arrived at a restaurant with the name ''Qwella''. Eguru didn't know what that meant and just followed Verzo inside.
They both sat down at a table and examined the menu. Eguru could only guess what kind of food it was from the pictures beside the food's number and description so he asked Verzo everytime he found something interesting.
A moment later a waiter approached them and took their orders. About 15 minutes later he came back with their food.
Eguru decided to eat pasta with meat and sauce he has never seen before while Verzo just ate a simple salad and bread. It was 11am when Eguru woke up and 1:30pm when they ate, so Eguru simply skipped breakfast. They both talked for a while and discovered that both of them liked many of the same things. Like videogames or music.
Although there probably wasn't a single human being who didn't like those two things. They also discovered they both were interested in nature and so they happened talk about animals too. Eguru also asked Verzo about the animals he saw in the forest yesterday. "Oh yeah. Those are normal animals as we know them", was the short answer.
Thirty minutes later they both finished and Verzo of course paid for the food. He also was the one talking to the waiter and saying goodbye. Eguru only managed to do the same with hand signs. The streets were now full of people again. Eguru assumed the average person went outside at around 1:30 - 2pm. But it obviously differed.
"Alright", Verzo began his sentence, "it's time to teach you the basics of our language. You will not only learn how to speak but also how to write. Though being able to communicate per tongue is way more important. I'll lead you to a library not too far away from the restaurant. Follow me." While Verzo again made fun of him Eguru only sighed. "How long will it approximately take for me to learn that language?" he asked disinterestedly.
Verzo in response could only guess how long it would take. "I don't really know. I don't know how fast you're able to learn nor how well you're able to pick up and remember things taught to you. It could range from just two months to over 3 years. If not, even longer."
Eguru was glad he learned a lot in his previous world. He has always been a fast learner with good memory.
Things might turn out differently now though as it's still been about 700 years since he last thought in another language. Studying foreign tongue could indeed be a challenge. He could only hope that his brain is still functioning as well as it did those centuries ago.
Not being sure if he wanted to sound confident or not he just was optimistic and said "I'm sure it'll work out. I won't take more than a year."
"I hope so." A little while later they stood in front of the biggest ''museum of books'' Eguru ever laid eyes upon. He wondered how many works of paper would await him in there.
