Chapter 5 - Aptitude

A couple hours later, Axel went to the study and research his family history. As he read through the documents and books, he came across a symbol that intrigued him. He sketched the symbol onto a piece of paper and went to the overseer of the study.

The overseer looked at him carelessly as he handed her the paper with the symbol sketch. "What does this symbol mean"? ,he asked. She took a look at the poorly drawn symbol and answered, "This is a starter encryption of magic." She then looked at the excited boy and saw his eyes glowing with an unnatural light. "I will find a tutor for you. Wait here, I'll be back in a few moments."

Axel felt a heavy presence enter the room. He looked over and saw a man that looked to be in his early 60's walk over with the overseer. "This boy has a talent that you could help him control." The man looked at Axel with curiosity. "Show me what you did." Axel took no hesitation and let his eyes emit a powerful glow. The man looked at the overseer and said, "He will be my disciple for the time being."

The man took out a piece of paper and handed it to Axel. "Focus on the paper." Axel did as he was told and focused. The paper multiplied and each piece showed a different effect. The old man gasped as he watched. The first paper burst into flames of 2 colors, blue and orange. The second turned to rock. The third let out a small gust. The fourth sparked and crackled lightning. The fifth shined as if it was a small sun. The sixth turned as black as night. The seventh was damp and dripped water.

Axel showed excitement as the paper multiplied and took on the several effects. The man sat down and tried to grasp what happened before him. After a moment he looked back at Axel and said, "You... You have a great gift little boy. Go now and meet me infront of the training room on the other side of the courtyard."

Axel went to his mother. As he looked upon her, he saw a bruise on her arm. The pressure in the air that he emitted turned cold and heavy as he looked at her. Elane looked at him and smiled like she always did. She went to her knees and said, "How was your day at the study?"

Axel explained the events that happened and told her about meeting the man that he didnt know his name yet to the training room by the courtyard. Worried but hopeful she took Axel in her arms and told him to be careful. Axel nodded and went to his room. He studied the magic encryption he drew earlier. He decided to focus on it like he did with the paper before.

The encryption glowed and Azel felt his mind hurt as he stared. He put it away and rested till the next day. The next morning Axel went to the courtyard and ran into his friends, Luxfin and Adeline Cleinfield. He greeted them before he continued to the entrance of the training room.

The man inside approached him as he yawned. Looking at him, he noticed his hair was in a simple ponytail and wore a black short sleeved outfut with red linings, the family colors. "My name is Wilson and I am a combat Wizard, but you will call me master from this day forth." Axel nodded as he entered the room. "You need to be taught manners little boy. When we meet, you will give me a slight bow." Axel nodded and bowed as his new master instructed.

Wilson pulled out 3 papers with runes on them. "Today we are going to see what fits you for combat. Place your hand on each rune and tell me what intrigues you the most."
