Chapter 11 - Loss and Gain

Axel rested for another 12 hours. He woke up to a scream and a crash. He hurriedly got up, donned his sword and rushed to where the comotion sounded from. When he arrived, he saw his mother, Elane, on the kitchen floor, bleeding from her arm and a small cut on her neck. Before he moved he saw a figure standing in the shadowy corner across the room. Axel drew his sword aggressively and brought down his mental pressure on the room, making the air almost suffocating for himself.

Axel never got a chanse to test his new power before this. Usually when there is an advancement in power for combat wizards, they quickly adapt to it from their hard work and training. The power that Axel had was mostly forced upon him by his master. Meaning that Axel could use the full extent of his power but not know how much he has. So Axel can hurt himself if he doesnt try to keep control of his movements and magic. It will also be dangerous for his mother Elane because she has no magical prowess and has never seen a day of combat.

Axel casted a light spell and illuminated the kitchen. He then saw his mother's body covered in bruises along with a deep cut on her left arm and a small cut on her neck. He stared at Elane for a moment and mentally snapped.

He then looked at the figure and was filled with rage. It was his older cousin, Jonah. He was holding a dagger and smiling at Axel, content with what he had done. "Your mom is just a weak bitch. This is what happens when little kids step out of line. Too bad your wyvern isnt able to do anything for you and her this time." Jonah stopped and walked over to Elane. "The Jarl told everyone to not touch you or there will dire consequences. He didn't say anything about your mother."

Axel then tightened his grip on his sword, screaming. "You don't know what you have sown! You have hurt my mother! And by hurting her, you have hurt me! The Jarl and the family council will hear of this!"

Jonah gave a demeaning smirk. "They don't care for your mother. Only you!!!!" Jonah then inverted the blade in his hand. "I love you son. Go do great things," Elane said as she turned on the floor to look at Axel, smiling. Jonah showed his anger at Elane before thrusting his blade down on her chest, cutting through her heart. Axel then felt broken. He looked at Jonah as he pulled the bloody dagger out of Elane's body. "You monster! You fucking pathetic monster! I'll kill you!"

Axel took no hesitation after speaking to launch himself at Jonah. Jonah pulled out a second dagger and blocked Axel's sword just in time. The two pushed their blades together. Jonah thrusted is free dagger at him. Axel made a rock appear in his free hand and blocked the incoming blade. The rock stopped the attack but crumbled in the process.

Jonah leaped back and summoned his companion. An 8 foot long serpent appeared and and coiled itself, ready to move at the slightest change in Axel's position. "So you are a rock and light magician. What a weak combination!" Jonah chuckled at Axel, ignorant of the rest of the elements that he could use.

Axel saw a paper on the floor by his foot that looked like that paper his master used. He picked it up and said, "You are a fool Jonah. I can control more than rock and light." Axel then poured a little bit of his magic in the paper and replicated the effects from back in the study. Jonah's jaw dropped and got angry. "You shouldn't have that kind of power! How can someone as pathetic as you have suck high aptitude in all seven elements!?"

Axel then slowly strided forward, making his sword produce a flame that shot along the blade and lightning that sparked and crackled between the 3 edges. He swung his sword and released the flames at Jonah who blocked it with water magic. Axel stoped and used his free hand to push him back with wind magic. Jonah resisted the wind and sprinted at Axel with his blades ready to swing. Axel readied himself and blocked the first dagger but lost grip of his sword after the second dagger struck the blade.

Axel took no hesitation and electrocuted Jonah. The serpent then saw Axel unarmed and went to strike. Axel moved the lightning magic to the serpent then made the lightning more violent, making the serpent retreat back to its master's rune. Axel then pushed Jonah back with his own water magic, slamming him against the furnace.

Axel then used his fire and water magic to make a dense fog in the kitchen. Axel jumped on a counter silently and made a sword out of rock and flame. Then he waited for Jonah to act as the fog cleared the room. Jonah lunged toward Axel once he saw him crouching on the counter with a strange brown blade with fire charring it. Axel then used his darkness magic and made the room darker than the sky at night. He heard a crash of two blades that hit the wall beside him and swung his sword in the same direction. A loud scream sounded from Jonah.

Axel then subdued his magic and saw Jonah without hands. A clean cut that was burned shut by the flames at Jonah's wrists. Jonah kept on screaming in agony. Axel jumped off the counter and retieved his sword from the floor nearby. Axel then used water magic on his sword which was covered in water that almost instantly turned into ice, making the blade much more heavy and thick. Axel then forced a blue flame to appear on his hand as he turned to face Jonah.

"STOP!" Said a familiar voice. Axel looked at the doorway and saw his master, Wilson walk in. "What do you think you are doing? Have you no discipline after all the training and the combat with the wolves?" Wilson then saw Elane's corpse on the floor. "Oh dear. Who did this my pupil?" Axel feeling broken again pointed his frozen blade at Jonah.

Wilson made the room feel heavy and suffocating. Axel had a hard time breathing again and forced his mental preassure out so he could breath. Jonah looked like he was struggling then laughed. Axel released the ice from his sword and sheathed it. "Why do you laugh murderer? My master is a greater threat than I am, and yet you laugh?"

Axel finding his anger and rage again, made a ball of lava float infront of his hands and step forward to Jonah. "Here is but a small amout of pain you have brought upon me by killing my mother." Axel then threw the ball of lava at Jonah. Jonah tried to dodge it. But the lava ball hit the side of his face before hardening and gluing to his face. Jonah's jaw was locked shut.

Wilson grabbed Axel and threw him out the door. Once Axel looked up, 6 Guards stormed his living space and demanded what was going on. Axel pointed at the doorway that lead to the kitchen and said, "Jonah killed my mother!"
