Axel nodded before summoning Clove, which took most of the space in the training room. "Master, where should we go? And what should we do?" Axel grabbing onto Adeline.
Wilson pulled out a map of the country. "You will leave Urr and go North East to Manslin. It is our sister nation. There is an academy there that I will send a messege to so that you will be enrolled before you get there. It is a month's journey but I am giving you two months to arrive. Axel, cut your hair to your shoulders and let it grow back. And you need to come up with an alias, Adeline. Axel your alias will be Izaak. Use it when you are in public and only use two or three of your elements. Choose them wisely until you think you are ready to reveal yourself."
Axel and Adeline nodded before donning the mithril armor and struggling to mount Clove. Axel gave Clove the command to change its scales to the color of the sky. Their armor also changed with Clove.
Wilson dropped the rock walls. Axel put a shield of water around them. Wilson then used all three of his elements. Wind, rock and fire to destroy the building. Axel then had Clove take off through the smoke and increased their altitude sharply, disappearing almost instantly. Adeline held onto Axel tightly because she has never flown before. Wilson dissapeared in the ruckus of the crowd and contacted the academy.
With trails of smoke following Clove as it took off, an alarm sounded from the fortress. Adeline looked back to see water mages run to the mess they left behind to calm the flames from Wilson's spells. As they got higher, the air was getting thinner quick. Axel commanded Clove to level itself so they could stabilize their breathing in the cold, thin air high in the sky.
Axel turned around to Adeline who was amazed at how the land looked from that height. "You know there is no turning back now, right?" Axel looled at Adeline in concern for her attachment to the city she lived at for half of her life. "Yeah, but aren't you scared? We just escaped a couple weeks after you were imprisoned."
Axel sighed heavily, "I don't have anything to take me back there anymore. Only thing I would go back for is revenge. Jonah deserves to die for what he did. And I don't know if i can hold a fight like that with him again at my current strength." Axel then started to let out all the feelings he held in while being imprisoned.
Adeline held his shoulder, "It must have been hard. At least you aren't alone on this road Axel." Axel looked up and saw Adeline smile like his mom always did when he saw her. 'At least I have my memories of her.' Axel then nodded and wiped his tears away. "That and in a month, I'll be eleven." He tried to change the subject which worked on her.
Adeline opened her mouth and got excited, "We need to celebrate some how!" Axel shook his head, "We should focus on getting as strong as we can before we get comfortable. We just left everything behind and we should keep to ourselves."
Clove started to decrease its speed and altitude over the trees for the two to rest. Once Clove landed, Axel jumped off before helping Adeline off. "Time to set up camp for a few days. We need to find food for a couple days flight. I'll take an hour to look around the immediate area and let you know if I find anything." Adeline nodded and started to set up a small campfire in the clearing.
Axel scouted around making sure they were alone. As he did, he spotted some rabbits scampering in the trees. Axel then casted a lightning spell that killed them instantly. Once he collected the corpses in a pouch, he continued to scout the area. Once Axel was sure the area was safe he focused on Adeline's presence.
When mages are searching for someone, they usually focus on their mental pressure that they naturally exert. Axel is learning to conceal his mental pressure but never got to perfect the skill before leaving everything behind. Adeline was in the same shoes as Axel. They were trying to be careful in the open wilderness afterall.
Axel returned with the rabbits in his pouch as Adeline was finishing the small campfire. "Do we have a way to cook these?," Axel said while pulling out the rabbits. Adeline pulled out a skillet and a cutting board then said, "We dont have any knives or spices." Axel sighed and drew his sword, "I'll prep them this way then." Once they had their meal, they set camp for a couple days.
The next couple weeks passed like this with traveling and stopping for food and rest. They trained daily on their magic improvements and fighting techniques. Axel spotted a strange book of runes that came with the pile of combat supplies that Wilson gave them before their departure. The book had a simple leather cover with the pages showing a little bit of age. As Axel opened the book he studdied the text. It was a book of combining magic elements and their effects.
Adeline joined Axel and studied the book with him. There was a few descriptions of combining magic between two users to either empower the elements used or to achieve more effects. The two of them nooded to eachother and held an element in each hand. Axel chose fire and lightning while Adeline used her two elements, water and rock. They combined the fire and rock to make a makeshift magma and shot it at a tree in the distance.
Adeline the shot her water spell at the same tree to extinguish the molten rock and flames on the bark. Axel had an idea and shot the lightning at the wet part of the tree and watched the lighting punch various holes into the tree. Adeline watched with surprise as she witnessed the effects of their spells.
After another week of flying, a desert came into view, showing that they were at the boarder of their nation. Axel smiled brightly. Adeline worried about what her twin brother, Luxfin thought of her running away like she did. Axel commanded Clove to increase speed.
When they crossed the boarder, the desert warped into a tropical jungle. Clove dove up to avoid the trees. Axel and Adeline held on tightly to Clove as it's direction shot almost straight up. Axel commanded Clove to level out its flying. As Clove did, Axel and Adeline readjusted their position on the wyvern.
