Axel placed his hand on the first rune. In his mind, a list of combat styles appeared. Axel examined each one. There was the single sword method, dual wield long swords, staff and shield, sword and shield, open palm method, and a mace and axe equivalent to the sword methods.
Axel chose the single sword method and let his master know his choice before placing his hand on the second rune. Again a list of methods appeared. These were low level methods used to train his mental prowess and start his growth for magic. Each of the methods was ranked 0 to 1. The first was Ki, it went against his first choice because it had a requirement of both hands free. The second was a universal method known as spiritual flow. It required concentration over time with whatever combat style the user chose. He studied the rest for a moment till he found one that he felt suited him.
Axel chose the rank 1 method, Seven Chaose Gates. It requires to have a sword style with the use of 2 or more elements. It also stated that the path was painful. Axel nodded in contempt as he opened his eyes once more to let Wilson know of his choice. Wilson's expression darkened in worry as he knew that this method was dangerous and should not be taken lightly.
Axel closed his eyes as he placed his hand on the final rune. Again a list appeared as the previous runes. These were companions that the user could summon at a moments notice. Axel studied hard as he read the descriptions of these comapions and what their use was. There were companions that were useless to him so he skipped over them. He narrowed his choices to 3.
What he saw what were beneficial to him, an atronach, a small wyvern, and a golem. The atronach casts spells of emense power for both combat and healing. The wyvern used different breath abilities like flame, frost, poison, and acid. Its scales were as hard as diamond when fully grown could act as a shield for its master. The golem was made of 3 elements, fire, ice, and rock respectively. It was for close combat and could tank for its master.
Axel nodded as he made his choice, again notifying his master of what he chose. Wilson's eyes widened and nodded with Axel's final choice. He put the runes away and walked away for an hour after telling Axel to wait.
Wilson returned holding a medium sized box with his family insignia on the front. Axel looked with anticipation and excitement. Wilson said, "These are for you to use and study with." He then pulled out a paper with an enscribing rune. "Pull up your sleeve." As Axel did, Wilson pulled out a small dagger and opened a small cut on his shoulder. Then placed the rune on Axel before he could bleed. Axel screamed as the rune planted itself on him under his skin forcing the wound shut, binding his companion to him for the rest of his life. Wilson then opened the box once the rune turned black on Axel's upper arm and held out a dull sword to Axel.
As Axel took the sword, Wilson smirked and a tree figure appeared. Axel gazed upon it. Surprized that it was a dryad that donned a staff and bow. "It is a nature warrior. It casts healing and light magic and uses the bow for combat." Axel was jaw dropped at the 4 meter tall companion of his master. "Focus on the rune that I placed on your shoulder. Your companion has a life force of its own and will take no toll on you when it is summoned. It will hurt you where the rune is if it is defeated."
Axel focused as he was instructed and a small 1 foot figure appeared. Wilson then said, "It will grow as you become more powerful with your mental and magical prowess." The small wyvern perched itself on Axel's shoulder and burped a small flame. Axel petted his wyvern as his master nodded in approval. "You should name it to seal the bond. Only then will it follow your desires and comands." The wyvern pushed off and flew around the room showing its green, yellow and orange scales. As it landed infront of Axel with grace, it glanced it's purple eyes at him and let out a huff of smoke as its scales turned to black. "It shares the attributes of what your magical abilities are through the color of its scales. You can command it to change the color of its scales based on your environment or to intimidate your foes." Axel's eyes widen as his master explained some of what his new companion is capable of.
'What should I name it? Something that links it to me and easy to remember and get used to should be suitable.' Axel though for a moment before a name appeared in his head. He announced the name Clove for his wyvern. Clove then grew twice its size as it heard its new name and their bond was complete. Surprized, Wilson observed his apprentice's Wyvern as it grew and let out a flame 3 times its size in contempt of its bond with Axel.
Wilson sent Axel home with a book for him to study and ordered him to meet back with him in a week. Axel rushed home in excitement with his Wyvern following him closely behind. He then heard screams coming from his mothers room. He opened the door and saw his cousin, Jonah, hitting his mother. He slammed the door open and let out a command, "Defend my mother!!!!" The wyvern scortched Jonah's clothes as he ran away in terror. Axel ran to his mom crying once his cousin was out of the area. "Mother! Are you ok?" Elane tried to hide her bruises from being abused and she took her son in her arms. "Yes. I will always be ok." The air was heavy from Axel not knowing how to control his mental prowess yet and almost gave his mom a suffocating effect. Axel saw his mom having a hard time breathing, so he lightened his mood hoping to stop his mother's struggle. He then went to his room to study his book of the Seven Chaos Gates.
