It was like an attack sign. Nick could only go back to the apartment. Maria gave her spare keys and she could enter without a problem. She locked everything up and went to the balcony.
But she couldn't see them as they turned into another street and only occasional shots could be heard that showed her direction.
With a sigh, she went back inside and turned the radio on. And she was right.
"They are now in the second street to the left. It seems they cleared that section. Her light powers can be used against zombies as well but she is trying not to. There is a probability that she has just a certain amount of power. So help them. If she can save her power, she can heal more people."
As it seems she was so far the only healer. Nick sighed. This is going to be complicated. Or not.
On the other side, Maria used her powers only if someone was in close danger to be attacked. She comfortably just walked and looked at the surroundings. Bakery... She needs flour... More stores...
"I can't see but looking at the motion of your head, you are having thoughts about the food again?" Zero knew already her hamstring and just accepted it.
"More food, less hungry.* She mumbled but Brian heard her and looked at the bakery that she glanced before.
" Do you want us to raid this place before going back home?" He pointed at the bakery and saw her nodding. "Max and Chen, stay here and don't let anyone enter before we don't come back."
The two men just rushed and stood in front of the doors with armed guns in both hands.
Maria rolled her eyes and saw a few people rushing out one of the houses towards her.
"Are you a healer?"
"I came first for that pregnant woman. Where is she?" She calmly said and saw them stop.
''Can you help us after that?"
Maria nodded. " Bring the ones that are wounded down to the street as we don't have much time. Days are shorter, didn't you notice?" It was already the Fall but they were lucky to have last few days sunny days.
They nodded and rushed away while she saw in the end of the street a young teenage girl waving her hand.
She rushed her way and saw her pointing up.
"She is in pain, please help her."
Maria had to run three levels up and cursed inside her that there was no elevator. But seeing young woman pale face that wiggled in pain she stopped thinking.
Brian stayed outside and checked the building to see if there were some zombies left inside.
Maria at the same time was carefully implanting light so the pain would be lighter but her pushes won't stop. She feared if she uses yo much power her body would close completely.
Luckily as it seems her actions made the woman give birth easier. Just a few minutes later the child was born and then she completely healed a woman's body.
In wonder, she stood up and stared at her with big eyes. "No more pain, this healing power... Thank you."
She held her baby close to herself and laughed happily as she saw the child completely healthy. "I feared..."
Maria rolled her eyes. "If you had zombie baby you would have died by now as it would have eaten you from inside out. Now I have to run back. Is it just two of you here?"
They nodded. Maria thought about that empty apartment on the fifth floor and gave them an offer.
"In the same building where I am, there is an empty place. On our way there we will raid a few things. Do you even have food here?"
But looking at the almost empty fridge and even emptier pantry she shook her head.
"You two will gather food and I'll hold the baby. You need food. Take a few things to wear. Have backpacks?"
They actually rushed and just picked up the backpacks they already prepared. "We thought anyway to look for a safer place. Thanks for the offer."
Brian and his men were astonished seeing the young woman already running out right after birth.
Maria told her to take a bath and told her to bath baby as well so the smell of blood won't stick in them. Just as they came out all fresh and clean Brian and his people came back with hands full with stuff.
She pointed at the woman.
"These two are coming with me. One of the apartments is empty in my building so they can stay inside. We will need food for them. Can we raid a store and get baby food and other stuff for them to survive?"
Brian nodded. "No problem."
On their way, they literally raided one store and bakery and with heavy load rushed as fast they could back while few men stood near her as she healed in passing almost dozen people.
She would just touch them, pass some light inside and rush to the other one. When she came to her apartment and open it they were astonished by simplicity. Seeing one room empty she explained.
"I planned to turn it into the office, but it's no problems if its pantry. Thank you for your help."
They helped the two women and baby as well and when they left Brian narrowed his eyes. "We must protect her. She is the only light power nearby. "
"Boss, should we go to her building?"
He shook his head. Thinking about her look on her face it seems she likes living alone. It would give her too much pressure.
"We can check a few lower apartments and plant a few of our men to protect the entrances. And we have a good view from the other side anyway. Don't put too much pressure on her. She seems strong but she is one of those people that like being in peace."
She is luckily on top of the building so she was quite safe...
