"Can't I come with you?" Nick was feeling useless, sitting alone and doing nothing.
"No. You do have a duty. I plan to plant balcony in spring. We need food." She pointed at the messy balcony.
"But don't you have a system?" Nick was curious.
"And how should I explain fresh food?" Maria rose her eyebrows. "Do you think people are dumb? I will ask Brian and his crew to help me find the greenhouse to put up here. We can plant plants inside and outside."
"The apartments under us are empty. We could use that as well." Nick chimed in.
Maria nodded. "Yes. I had the same idea."
In apartment right under her were families that as it seems turned into zombies as well. Maybe she could plant some things inside as well. She can always use her power as an excuse for their speedy growth. For now at least.
"What should I do?" Nick gave up as she saw that Maria won't change her mind.
Maria didn't want her to do anything hard so she sighed. "Go on the balcony and measure it. After that make a plan. Or multiple plans where we could plant what. I have all the seeds so have fun. There are paints in your room and later on I'll bring more."
"Make planting plan?" Nick felt suddenly energized.
"But consider short and tall plants. Sun and shadow plants as well." Maria took out her bookcase few books about planting that she actually took from nearby store when they were riding for food.
Looking at the books Nick was surprised but nodded. "I'll try reading them all and making plan before you come."
Maria shook her head.
"I will go next few days out to clean the city with others. First learn more about planting before even thinking about making plans. And yes, those apartments under us can be used as planting rooms as well. So consider that as well." She patted child's head and left her curiously reading the books. In new world yo find another way of survival won't be bad.
When she entered the lobby she saw bunch of armed people standing and talking and Brian sitting and smoking with dark expression. She came closer and looked at him curiously.
"Why that face? Someone made you angry?" She was clearly curious.
"We made major call to people in surroundings and not many answered. Even those two women wanted to come but we stopped them as neither they have weapons, powers and top of that baby. But the point us, in your whole building only you and them want to go and clean the streets. And in whole city only handful of people want to do that."
Maria nodded. "Fear. But that is not problem now. The weather will change soon. And then the light walls won't help anymore. Should we make some sort of real walls?"
He sighed. "I was thinking the same, but I prefer them killed than building something."
Maria looked calmly at him."We can maybe, just maybe kill majority here, but what about rest if the country? What if they start moving from city to city. We will need some sort of protection early or later."
He stared at her while others listened them in silence.
"Ugh, may I say something?" They turned their heads and saw Jasek looking at them with a big grin.
"Speak It seems you still have that idea." Brian rolled his eyes.
"Its not a bad idea. Zombies do not go into water. They hate it as much they hate sun. If we all go there we will be safe for a while." Jasek looked at Maria that had no idea what they were talking about.
Brian rubbed his temples. "You know the nearby island? There is information that dome rich person made shelter there and it should be quite safe. But no one knows if the owner is still there and alive."
Maria stocked remembering the ship she saw her previous employers leave with. What if?
"How do you plan to go to that island?" Maria looked at the young man curiously.
"There are many boats at the pier. We could use the chance to check it out at least. And if its free then we can think about staying in there is already living owner of course we won't be going that." Jasek was serious about his proposal.
Brian looked at Maria. Agreement on her face made him sigh in relief. At least she wouldn't mind then, right? But if those people are alive he must find other place.
"Then it doesn't matter what way we clean up the streets. We can as well clean to the pier." Seeing her agree his heart settled.
To her it didn't really matter what way they will go. As long she is safe...
Going to the nearest light wall she started sending balls of light at the crowd of zombies that saw their movements and growled deeply. But as they were perched together she found it bothersome to kill one by one.
She stopped for a second and slowly gathered huge ball of light in front of her while everyone stepped back not to disturb her. Only yelp could be heard from her earpiece. But then Zero became silent as well as the ball from his yelp fluctuated.
The energy of ball he could feel so he was more than amazed.
With a huff she stopped gathering and slowly approached the light wall where the zombies suddenly stirred. They tried to get away from the light but it was almost impossible .
"Just like I thought. We can just push them back you guys shoot them while I will hold the light ball like a protection in front of us instead of the light wall." She stepped forward and zombies rushed away as they could feel the impending doom.
Sounds of shooting reverberated the streets but instead attacking them the zombies tried to run away. From time to time she would touch the group of zombies with the light ball and screeching could be heard as even this that weren't touched could feel the strength of the light and would get heavy burns.
Strange the same light was healing for normal humans.
