"New news. The healer did a good job. Not only did she help the pregnant woman deliver baby, she even healed in passing others that needed help. So far we know she is the only healer nearby. So for today, how is it with clearing streets of zombies. Any progress?"
Maria sat by the radio and enjoyed ice cream while listening to the news. She rolled her eyes.
"It's not like I am some heavenly being. I just healed a few people. Sigh."
Zero had to comment.
"You really have no idea?"
His voice suddenly was loud as she forgot yo put earpiece. Nick dropped the spoon from shock and stared at Maria.
"Two choices. You are possessed or you have a system?" Surprise after surprise. This woman is so full of surprises.
Maria calmly raises two fingers. This kind of thing would have happened early or later anyway.
"System, may I ask you a question?"
"My name is Zero, and no."
Nick was flabbergasted. She didn't expect that. Maria patted her hand.
"Zero has her own... character. Don't take it to heart. Go was the spoon and finish the Ice cream, it is melting."
Almost in daze Nick went to the kitchen and did as she was said.
"Now to you, Zero. What do you mean by that?"
"Ufh, I guess another information that I just found. Healers.. are rare. You choosing the light doesn't mean you will become automatically healer. Light consist of three power elements. Lightning, that is most often found among light elements, magnetic field, that is rarer and pure light. Among the world's I visited, I met only three healers."
Maria shrugged but then went curious. "Wait, that makes absolutely no sense. How is the magnetic field contained in light powers.? And lighting?"
"I told you I lost memories. I have no idea why. Is it logical or not, it's not on me to comment. It is at it is."
Thinking about all the things she learned in school her head started hurting. It made no sense, but who is she to doubt.
"So will Maria later get the other two?" Nick still tried to ask and luckily Zero answered.
"No. She can choose later from other powers. But from each power, she can use only one part not all.'' Suddenly a screech could be heard. '' Wait, no, impossible!!!"
His scream almost made them deaf.
Maria held in each hand a swirling ball filled with dark matter and shining lightning.
"How is this possible? This is just impossible? Are all humans this scary?" Zero suddenly appeared in front of her in the form of the light ball and flew around her hand.
But after scanning her body he suddenly disappeared. "At least I know you are still this weak. Humans are ugly and scary indeed."
Nick blinked at Maria. "Did he just call us ugly?"
Maria chuckled. "His true form is so cute and fluffy. No wonder he thinks we are ugly. Anyway, the ball is draining too much of my energy. I can use it as last resort in case of extreme danger. But for normal use impossible."
She was clear right after summoning the two balls. Just to summon the two it took the rest of her energy away. So this power will be still just in case.
Right the next day even more streets started to clean up zombies. This time they would bring them to a certain point and the just burn them with light or their own power's.
"Your human kind is quite fast at doing certain stuff. I fear that they will feel comfortable when few zombies die. But, winter is nearby and sunny days will be less and less. They must prepare for that moment."
"I must as well. Nick has no powers. You protect me, but winter is very cold in this part of the country. I must find a way to stay warm." Maria was worried about heating.
The electricity was by now used only twice a day. For her was easy, the previous owner had a fireplace. Should they look for heaters? Propane or diesel heaters?
She went to the balcony and looked at the big space. She must prepare for spring as well. How else can she explain fresh vegetables?
She saw movement in the opposite building and man waved his hand. Oh, how inconvenient. They forgot to exchange their numbers. She motioned for him to wait, went inside and wrote her number on it.
When she came back she just rose the paper in front if her and not even minute later she got the call. "Hi, we forgot doing this."
"Yes. May I ask for a favour?" She chooses to thicken her skin.
"Of course. Tell us. If we are able we will help."
"Winter is around the corner. I can feel the wetter fluctuations. We must find a way to kill as many zombies as possible before the days become darker. For now, we had luck, but for his long?"
There was a moment of silence and he sighed.
"We already had the idea to find a way and bring zombies to a place where we could just fry them. What do you think?"
"Don't rely only on on sun. Pour gasoline over them and burn them literally. Or find the way to gather them in big group actions so I can kill them. I realized that my powers rose when I overuse it. There must be probably many people that need healing, but it will take me time to find them. If I can raid my powers by using it, wouldn't it be more logical? All power users can come together and just raise powers by using powers."
"You mean we should raid zombies?"
"Why not. We kill them or they kill us. With time I fear they will be stronger anyway. So we must clear as many as we can and rise thick and strong walls to protect ourselves."
"I will take care of the war call. You will come with us and be in mid, protected. Please do not try to be a hero."
"Do I look stupid? I have a wish to live, that is why I am thinking so much. But I need someone to protect my home when I'm not around. I feet there will be long fingers the moment I leave this place and Nick is just child."
"Don't worry. We will protect your place. I'll leave a few people behind."
"Thank you."
"No problem. Wait for my call. We can start with our group today and hope from tomorrow to give a large group of people willing to go to war."
"I'll wait for your call." Elevator worked the whole day as the building had its own power source. But none tried to overuse it as they wanted to save as much energy as possible.
Luckily no one could enter her place without a card. And there were another set of doors right after coming out elevator where you need key and code to enter the smaller hall.
Her place was actually quite safe. But considering people having now powers, she was afraid that her protection was still too weak.
