Chapter 12 - 12. Light powers and space

"You have powers as well?" Brian rushed to her with a smile.

With a smile, she nodded.

"I found out last night. Who else?"

Jasek shyly rose his hand and summoned fireball.

"But when I burn them it takes forever."

She stilled for a moment.

"I think its because they are sensitive to light and I have powers of light."

Brian pointed at a young man she didn't see before.

"If you have light powers do they work like in the game? Can you heal him?"

She shrugged. ''I am not sure, I can try."

Brian motioned to the boy to come near. "Steven, this is Maria. Let's try to see can she heal you."

She could see his bandaged hand and had a premonition. "Was he attacked by a zombie."

Everyone signed.

"Last night one of the windows was not tightly shut so one of the zombies came in and bit him. Bit as it seems he is immune as he didn't turn."

Maria sighed in relief. At least now it will be easier to explain.

"I think it is not only him. I saw a woman being attacked and she had scratches. But she is still alive. I think this is not a virus. Not sure yet, but I am almost 90% certain this is not a virus."

She held his hand and suddenly his whole body was enveloped in soft light. A moment later she took her hands off and looked at him with expectation.

Brian took off the bandage and saw speckless skin. Nothing there, not even old scratches or wounds that child had.

"You really have healing powers."

"As it seems. Let's get more food before others realize that the street is empty." She pointed again at the restaurant they saw last time and they had to rush that way.

This time they helped her carry all the stuff to her building. Luckily there was still no one else who dated to go our so they raided two more restaurants and just as she finally entered her apartment with all the bags, boxes and water bottles other people started coming out as well.

After putting some of the food into one of the smaller rooms she sat down on the bed and looked at Nick firmly. "You need a bed and we can raid a few apartments for stuff we might need. By the way, I must tell you something."

Nick curiously saw her going to the room where she put all the stuff and followed her. Maria waved her hand and everything disappeared.

"You have a portable space pocket?"

She could just nod. "As it seems so. I couldn't use it in front of others. Showing my light power is fine as I can use it later on. But space I can't show. I plan to get your room upstairs so you can finally sleep comfortably. And you need clothes."

Nick knew she could show her powers even in the hallway as someone might see it. Thinking about her folks in that apartment she felt unwilling. But she couldn't let her go alone.

Getting near her apartment she saw doors wide open and no sounds coming from anywhere.

"They came out?"

Actually, Maria left the doors open so she would have that feeling

"Did you close the doors tightly when you rushed out?"

Nick shook her head. "I just rushed out and thought to hear the door closing. But it is possible it was not completely closed."

"In that case, they are no more here. But I'll check rooms just in case." Alice really felt bad for lying but it was better, she was certain as she could see relived expression on Nicks's face.

"There is no one here. Let's take everything. Literally everything." They gathered beddings, curtains, clothes, dishes, all food, her whole room, and something she didn't expect to see.

" Your father liked fishing?" She looked at the whole camping gear.

"Yes. But mostly he would fish a dozen fishes and eat only one. Most fishes he would put back in the water." Nick held one of the pictures in her hands.

"Let's take all the pictures with you as well. Remember them as what they were before this." She hugged her shoulders and could feel first light shakes of the body but then the child started crying.

Crying is good. She should mourn her family. It will be easier to continue life later on.

Later in the room, she placed her stuff inside and saw Nick arranging stuff at her will.

"Mom had certain... the taste of doing things. I actually like simplicity. As walls are plain white I will put one wall full with their pictures and rest if was will be empty. My bedding, sigh. I actually hate pink. Can I get blue bedding?"

Maria waved her hand and few blue beddings appeared in front of Nick. "Yep, this is it."

Maria was curious.

"You don't seem surprised about my powers."

Nick shook her head. "We have Zombie Apocalypse. You already showed me powers of light, space... was somewhat expected. But you are right, it's better if no one else knows."

After eating they sat down and just listened to the radio.

"...not many have powers. We heard there is one that has healing powers. Yes, and zombie bite or scratch won't turn you into a zombie. Everybody that survived the first wave is immune. But you can still be eaten alive. So everyone should be really careful. Call me and tell me the new information's."

There was a call and a young woman's voice could be heard.

"We need the healer. Please. My friend is pregnant and is about to give birth but she has weak health. It seems she won't be able to handle it. "

The moderator coughed and signed.

"I said there is a healer but can she fly? There are millions of zombies down the streets. Where is your position? " As she explained Maria realized it was not far away but it was still outside the light wall. She picked up the phone and called the moderator.

"Hello, I am a healer. We used mirrors and glass to produce light walls here so it's safe to go down, the problem is her house is in next street

" If people nearby could use same contraptions and just block zombies so I get near, I will go there. I am just a human and plan to live for a while. Please help me to help others, or yourself. I'll go down and hope people will help me."

Moderator was stunned silly as he stopped talking and could hear literally her rushing out.

"Everyone in nearby streets tries making the same light walls as they made. She is on her way. Help her!"

The line was broken off as she stood outside and argued with Nick. "Go home please."

"Not going. What if they trap you and you can't come back?"

"Trap?" She just realized that there is that option. But she shook her head. I have to take a chance. Please go back as I have to concentrate. I will be certainly back."

A suddenly familiar voice could be heard from behind.

"We will protect her so don't worry."

Brian and at least two dozen heavily armed men stood there ready to go with her.

She was not foolish to stop them. There is only a little power she had and she had no weapons. If they can clear the way for her it was fine with her.

They had their plans and she had her own.

She slowly summoned a light ball and shot through the light wall...
