Chapter 13 - Assessment

Starpaw decided to check on Goldendust since she forgot to feed her yesterday. "Ehh! My bones are feeling like they are a hundred years old. Has it been raining all night?" asked Goldendust as she got out of her nest and stretched her back all the way up. "No, it only started raining this afternoon." replied Starpaw. Starpaw looked at her bedding and meowed, "Your bedding must be soaking wet. Why don't you move more towards the nursery? It is more sheltered there, you would be out of the rain mostly." Goldendust set you gaze looking at Starpaw from toe to head. "Are you crazy? There is no way I'm going to be kept awake by those chadder boxes you called kits! I rather get wet by the rain." hissed Goldendust. "Will you at least let me fetch you some dry bedding?" gentled asked by Starpaw. Goldendust rolled her eyes and meowed, "Well don't just stand there like a tree, go on and fetch me some bedding." As Starpaw started heading to the entrance of ThunderClan, Firestar gave up to her and asked, "How is Goldendust doing?" "She's doing fine, but her bedding is wet so she asked me to fetch new and dry moss." replied Starpaw. Firestar paused for a moment to think then he meowed, "I'll ask one of the queens to fetch some of that for Goldendust. Can she hunt for herself?" Starpaw took a gance back at Goldendust to see her trying to find comfort in her wet bedding while the kits were meowing and playing. Goldendust really looked annoyed from this view. "She can walk fine, but I think there will be a bit more time before she can hunt again." replied Starpaw. "Okay, well I think it is time you get back to your training. We must not delay this process any longer than we should. However, you must work hard to pay back from the time you lost." meowed Firestar. Starpaw's face glowed up when she heard her leader say that. She quickly mewed, "Finally! Oh, sorry I'm just really excited. When do I start?" Her leader looked at her and meowed, "Now, actually. Ravenclaw will take you out. I asked him to assess all our apprentices today. You should go now, you don't want to keep her waiting." Starpaw quickly trotted to Sunnyrocks where Ravenclaw and the other apprentices were. "Today I will assess each and every one of you. Sandpaw and dustpaw are busy with other duties so they will be assessed later on this week. Rednose and I have taught you all of our skills when it comes to hunting. You each will be taking different paths and whatever prey you catch will be added to the fresh kill pile. Graypaw you will travel up to Snakerocks, that should be good enough for you with your skills. Bluepaw you will take the route along the stream as far as the ThunderPath." meowed Ravenclaw. "Great~, wet paws for me." joked Bluepaw. Ravenclaw continued meowing, "Rednose will be joining us later on due this assessment. Unlucky for you, your mentor couldn't make it to you for himself. You will travel through the Tallpines, past the Twolegs' houses, and past the forest beyond." "Mhm!" Starpaw mewed as she really wanted to hiss, 'Shut your mouth. Firestar wouldn't like to hear you say that! Someone woke up on the wrong side of the nest.' "I will be watching each and every one of you. Now go." commanded Ravenclaw. Graypaw was excited to go near Snakerocks, he was the first to leave the group. He dashed towards that direction as fast as he could. Bluepaw was excited to go near Thunderpath and the river, but she hated wet paws. Starpaw on the other hand, was hesitate. She trotted through Tallpines as her mind was full of things. Starpaw had a lot going on, in her head she thought, 'Ravenclaw is still upset from yesterday. I think it started when I asked him about Yellowfang's death. It's either that he missed his former deputy or he knew more about her death than others. A little too much. Let's be honest me, I don't think it was some random pick that I out of all cats, had to go near Twolegs' nests.' Meanwhile, behind all that thinking, Starpaw was already by the fence of Twolegs. She took a quick sniff and realized she wasn't alone. She was with another cat, and this cat wasn't any cat from ThunderClan. Then, she heard a branch crack and as soon as she heard which direction the sound came from she pounced. Starpaw opened her eye to see, "Smudge?!?"
