Chapter 15 - Chapter Fifteen

I woke with a start hearing something outside the tent and looked over. I could hear rain falling outside the tent but that wasn't what disturbed my sleep. I had heard something that didn't belong to the sounds of rain. It had started to rain a few hours after the sunset.

I could tell it was close to midnight by now. I stayed laying down on my bed but looked towards the entrance to the tent. After some time I saw a hunkered shadow over the entrance of the tent when a flash of lightning fell. I grabbed my knife and unsheathed it swiftly and threw it towards where I had seen the shadow.

I sat up softly and silently grabbed my glock out from under my pillow. I rushed outside my gun at the ready to shoot. I didn't see anyone outside the tent. I ran toward the edge of camp towards the hill. I had my gun at the ready but saw no one. I went up onto the top of the hill and looked for any movement in and around the camp. I saw none and scowled.

I went back into camp still on guard my gun pointed down but still in my hands. I went back to my tent and looked at the muddy ground. I could see some boot prints in the mud that didn't belong to the standard issue boots we received. I scowled; They had been in their camp! I followed the boot parents but they vanished after leading here to the bottom of the hill. I scowled unhappily before going back to my tent to find my knife.

I knew they had already gone and there was no point trying to track them any farther. I searched for my knife but couldn't find it. I frowned and followed the path my knife should have taken but still couldn't find it. I spat and went into the tent going over to the sleeping Togami and kicked him unceremoniously out of the bed. I saw him screamed at this, waking the others in the tent and after a moment he sat up and glared at me.

"What the hell! What are you doing? It's the damn middle of the night!" I scowled the look on my face murderous, "They were in the camp! They were just outside our tent. They took my knife and got away. We have a major breach." Togami froze and after a moment asked, "what did you say? They were in our camp?"

I nodded, "They were outside our tent. I threw my knife at them and went out with my gun but they were gone along with my knife." Togami jumped to his feet, his face pale, "Go tell Captain Sean." I nodded, "Get dressed, the tracks will disappear soon due to this rain."

I went to my bunk and grabbed my other gun and strapped it to my belt seeing the scared and nervous looks from everyone else as they had gotten up. I then left the tent going to find Captain Sean. I had already located the tent he was staying in. He was staying in a tent with his second in command near the center of camp. I jogged to his tent and entered without pause.

I looked to the two sleeping men in the tent and went over to captain Sean. I shook him trying to wake him. I then immediately pinned the arm of his that came up with a gun in hand. I didn't want to get shot nor let anyone else get shot so I took the gun from his hand. I then looked at captain Sean who was staring at me now awake.

"Captain Sean,we have had a breach." Captain Sean looked at me and glared, "what the hell are you talking about?" I glared, "Get your ass up. Someone snuck into the camp. They got away but they still managed to get into the camp. It's the same person who I warned you about the other day." Captain Sean spoke, "Private Kanami this is ridiculous! You expect me to believe someone got into our camp without our sentries noticing and got past them without notice as well?"

I looked at him, "I do because it is the truth. They took my knife." Captain Sean scowled, Just because your knife is missing does not mean someone got into the camp." I snapped, "I threw my knife at them a minute ago you really think I'm making this shit up? Get your head out of your ass. I am being serious." Captain Sean glared, "Private Kanami that is enough. I'll be talking to your superior and after this you'll be discharged. You are delusional."

I glared and left the tent even as I noticed the second in command had woken and had sat up looking at me and captain Sean who had been arguing. I headed back to my tent and saw the others had gone outside and were looking at the ground. I could tell they were looking at the tracks left by the person who snuck into camp and it looked like Togami was getting some pictures.

I walked over and spoke, "He thinks i'm a lunatic." Togami looked at me and shook his head, "before I saw your skills I had thought the same so give him a break. For now let's focus on the breach. You had said they took your knife, how?" I spoke, "I threw it at them after I saw their shadow against the tent. They took it with them." Togami swallowed paling even more than he already was, "we wouldn't stand a chance against them then. It is terrifying to think there is someone else on the same level as you and not on our side."

I nodded softly and looked to the others who were huddled together holding tightly to their guns looking around nervously. I shook my head slightly and looked to the disappearing tracks in the mud. This rain was destroying the tracks although it had also allowed them to be made. I looked at Togami who was looking at his tablet looking at the pictures of the tracks.

I looked over as captain Sean walked over, his face was ugly from his anger. I looked away and looked at Togami. I then looked to Captain Sean as he spoke.

"Lieutenant Togami! Private Kanami has lost her mind! She believes someone managed to sneak into our camp without letting anyone but her notice" Togami looked at him, "Sir, Private Kanami was telling the truth. We have tracks that do not belong to our men. Also sir, Private Kanami has enough skills to take down an entire enemy bae by herself. If she wasn't the one to notice the intruder then none of us have the skill to notice them."

Captain Sean looked at Togami, "What are these tracks you are talking about?" Togami walked over and showed him the pictures of the tracks, "these tracks sir. We would have never been the wiser if not for Private Kanami." Captain Sean looks at the pictures and frowns, "You are right, those aren't the standard issue prints of our boots. It seems Private Kanami was telling the truth, but how is it that no one else saw this intruder?"

I spoke up, "for the same reason no one has been able to spot him these last two days. Hell, not even I have been able to locate him. That for me is very aggravating. They are very skilled." Captain frowned and asked, "So you really were telling the truth about someone watching the camp before?"

I shook my head, "They weren't watching the camp. They seemed to be only watching me. So, I was incorrect about them watching the camp. They went to our tent nowhere else. I had followed the tracks trying to catch them."

Captain Sean frowned, "why only you?" I spoke, I have a theory that it's because of me destroying one of the enemies bases in South America. Or it could be a number of things, I just don't know." Captain Sean frowned, "For now let's keep this locked up taught. We will start patrols in the camp during the night and not just the edge."

I nodded before looking to the others. They looked nervous and wide awake. I looked up at the sky and spoke, "Let's go back in the tents and get dry. I doubt they will be back tonight especially since they were caught by me. Oh, Captain Sean, in the morning could you hand me a satellite view of the area surrounding the camp?"

Captain Sean frowned, "I guess but why do you want that? There is nothing around for miles." I Nodded, "exactly, I'm going to see where our intruder could be hiding. Once I do i am taking my knife back"

Togami stared at me, "That's what you are concerned about; your knife?" I looked at him, "it's my favorite and besides I've used it the most before in fights so I'm used to it. Oh, also it was given to me by General Howser during the revolt" I shrugged and went into the tent while the others stared at me.

I entered the tent and went to my bed and sat on it. I was soaked but I didn't care. I looked up as the others in my squad came into the tent. They were all wet but not quiet soaked like myself. I looked to Jamie who came over to me. She gave me a smile before jumping up onto her bunk bed.

I took a deep breath and sat thinking. I wanted to find out who this person was. They were extremely skilled. They managed to get away from me and the camp in only a few moments. They might be even faster then her. She looked to the others as they sat on their beds talking. It was clear none of them could get any sleep after this.
