Chapter 16 - Chapter Sixteen

The others as well as myself stayed up til dawn. A few were able to fall asleep after the sun rose but most just stayed up. Myself got up and went outside. It was still raining and I scrunched up my nose before walking out of the tent headed for captain Sean's tent.

I walked swiftly trying to walk lightly to not slip in the slippery mud. Although, I probably wouldn't slip eigther way. I made my way to captains Sean's tent and entered. I looked at the two men who were sitting together talking. They stopped talking when they noticed me and Sean spoke.

"I guess you're here for the map?" I nodded, "Yeah. Sorry about what I did say before. I was furious they got away and took my knife." Captain Sean looked at me curiously, "You were furious? You looked slightly upset, not furious." I shrugged, "For me that was furious. I don't really get angry any more so…"

Captain Sean nodded softly, "well then… I'll get you the map. It's only digital though." I nodded, "That is fine. I just want to catch this bastard." Captain Sean nodded, "Yeah we need to catch them. Also I did read your military records and I have to apologize. I am sorry. I didn't know you were so skilled and only thought you to be a lunatic but I was wrong."

I nodded softly, "It doesn't matter." The second in command who was sitting next to captain spoke, "Private Kanami, I am Lieutenant Jared, in the future you need anything in thee camp please let me know." I looked at him a little suspicious but nodded, "Then I'll have to thank you in advance for your help."

I then got a tablet from captain Sean as he spoke. "I'll have to ask you to return it before sunset." I nodded, I will. Thanks."

I walked out of the tent and went back to my own tent. As I walked I felt a gaze start to watch me. I glanced to the hill before flipping off the person watching. I was letting them know I knew they were there. I then went into my tent to study the map surrounding the camp.

I sat on my bed and began to study the map. I carefully counted the buildings around the camp. Just as Captain Sean had said, there were only buildings several miles from the camp. Although, with the speed that person had shown last night he was fast enough to get past others without notice as well as have a base camp several miles away without being troubled.

I frowned softly and had a closer look at those buildings closest to the camp. I was looking for the best base camp with the idea of myself choosing a camp for if I was watching an enemy camp. I found a few but they were too obvious. I frowned thinking before searching the land around the camp on the map. I kept looking to see if there were any caves or such near the camp but saw none.

I scanned the map carefully when I noticed an abnormality. There was a darker patch of ground on the map near the camp. I looked closely and smirked. I knew this was the spy's camp. It was a buried building. The depression made from the buried building let water collect and the grass grew thicker there. I then started to look for any entrances of this building and found what looked like an entrance to the west of the buried building.

I smirked slightly with excitement that I hadn't felt in a long time coursing through my veins. I stood up and left the tent. The sun had come back out and despite the muddy ground the soldiers were moving about the camp as normal. I could feel the gaze of the enemy once again though this time I ignored it as I headed to Captain Sean's tent.

I reached his tent and entered. I looked around but captain Sean wasn't in the tent. The only one in the tent was Lieutenant Jared. I waved to him when he looked up from his work at me. I spoke up to ask where the captain was but was interrupted before I could even speak.

"Private kanami, what Can I do for you?" I spoke, "I was looking for Captain Sean; I've got good news." Lieutenant Jared spoke, "Oh, good news, that's good. Captain will be back shortly so you can have a seat and wait if you want." I nodded, "I'll wait then."

I remained standing even as Lieutenant Jared went back to his work. I knew he was writing up reports from what I could see. Although I wasn't sure what he was reporting. He might be reporting the breach of severity or something else. I did doubt it was about the breach though as it was already late into the afternoon.

I looked around the tent and the file cabinets and other such important things. I then looked over as captain Sean walked into the tent. He looked a little startled to see me in the tent. He recovered quickly and spoke up.

"Private Kanami, what brings you here this time?" I spoke, "I am bringing back the tablet with the map as well as bringing good news." Sean asked, "What good news?" I spoke, "I found the spy's camp I believe. It is a buried building. I only noticed it by chance. This is the best place for them to camp while watching us. It's only a mile out from the camp to the south."

Captain Sean starred as me before asking, "You sure?" I nodded, "positive, unless they have made camp elsewhere but with the skills of this person I doubt they would choose a bad camp and I would say what I found is the best. Captain Sean nodded, "Ok then I'll get a squad to go in and capture or kill them."

I immediately shook my head, "No, that would only be sending them to their death. I'll go in tonight by myself. If I don't come out after an hour after I go in then You can send a squad in. They'll either find me death and themselves soon to follow or with me still fighting or having captured the enemy."

Captain Sean frowned but after a bit nodded, "Very well, I'll listen to your advice in this matter." I nodded softly, "Good." I held out the tablet to him which he took.

Captain Sean put the tablet up and as I was about to leave he spoke up, "Wait a moment." I stopped and looked at him, "Yes?" Captain Sean grabbed something from a drawer, "Before I came back to the tent I was In the communications tent on the phone." I nodded softly.

Captain Sean walked over to me, "You have been promoted to Corporal" I blinked, "Corporal?" Sean nodded and presented the badge that would indicate my rank, "Apparently you did such a good job in South America they ranked you up to corporal right away. Also I told them about the spy and they did order me to pay heed to your instructions in this matter."

I frowned before asking, "Was it General Howser who suggested this?" I a saw Sean looked away, "Maybe…" I nodded, "He always likes to poke his nose in my business so it's to be expected." Captain Sean nodded softly, "I also heard of what you did during South America and I am impressed, You took out a entire enemy compound by yourself basically"

I shrugged, It was nothing much. Not even a challenge. Now this person I'll be facing tonight, now I believe that is going to be a challenge." Lieutenant Jared asked, "Why do you say that?" I spoke, "They got away from me last night and took my knife with them. We must be fairly equal in skills." Jared nodded going into thought

I nodded and waved before exiting the tent going to my own tent. While Sean had been talking I had put on my new badge. I entered my tent and after a few moments the others asked me about my rank. I just told them honestly I was moved up just now by Captain Sean and I also told them I'd be going out tonight to catch the spy. I then went and sat on my bed checking my ammo preparing in advance to go.
