"Hello cousin!"Ryan greeted him. Aaron was surprised to see his cousin. He took a quick glance at Roseline who was as surprised as he was, she couldn't utter a single word, when his eyes fell on her. Aaron, gave way for them to walk inside before closing the door. Roseline didn't expect that Ryan would bring her to meet her sister's husband. "I'm Roseline, Elizabeth's sister. I wanted to meet you on your wedding day and I couldn't talk to you, " she said with a decent smile.
"I know. Good to see you, Roseline," Aaron replied and looked at the servant who was standing at the stair case. The servant understood what his master wanted him to do. He went to the kitchen and brought two glasses of juice and snacks in a tray for the guests. Roseline didn't understand how to start a conversation with her brother- in- law. Her heart raced, to see the man her sister married. He was undoubtedly the most handsome man she has ever seen but his cold demeanour gave her chills. She doubted if her sister would be happy with a man like him.
Aaron noticed that she was little uncomfortable, so he started the conversation. "So, are you both still competing with each other ?" he asked them.
Ryan laughed looking at Aaron and Roseline but the girl was embarrassed.
"He knows everything about you and me," Ryan said to Roseline before he answered Aaron, "I don't do that anymore but I don't know about her."
"I don't compete either," came an instant reply from Roseline after listening to Ryan's words. "And also please don't believe his words, I'm sure he must've badmouthed about me,"she remarked about Ryan to her brother in law. Aaron saw Ryan denying that he badmouthed about her to his cousin, Aaron was listening to their little argument. His mood changed looking at the kids who came to meet him and his gaze shifted to the door. It was Elizabeth who stood at a certain distance who had a surprised and a happy face.
"Elza!" Roseline ran to hug her sister. Elizabeth hugged her back, "But...."
"Ryan and I came together," Roseline replied before Elizabeth completed her question. Elizabeth looked at Ryan who bowed his head a little with a smile and looked at Aaron.
"What do you want to have for dinner, ask whatever you want to eat," Aaron said to Roseline.
"Anything is fine for me," came an immediate answer from Roseline.
"I want pasta," Ryan interrupted.
"I asked her, not you. Go home and eat....Your mother complained me that you are not coming home. Where are you roaming instead of going home after school?" Aaron asked Ryan.
"Well the thing is.... My exams are near and my friends and I are studying together," Ryan lied.
"And you want me to believe this?" Aaron questioned him to see him nod continuously for two seconds.
"By the way, how is your marriage life ? ," Ryan asked his cousin.
"It's just been a day and don't try to divert the topic" Aaron replied. While Aaron and Ryan were talking, Elizabeth and Roseline looked at each other. Not only Aaron but Roseline also noticed Elizabeth's swollen eyes.
"I'm happy to see you ," Elizabeth said to Roseline.
"And I'm glad to see you smile," Roseline replied and took a deep breathe before continuing the conversation, Roseline couldn't see her sister being dull, she tried to change the conversation and told her about the things that were happening in her school and somehow she made Elizabeth laugh. While they were talking, Elizabeth looked at Ryan who was talking to Aaron at that time, "since when did you Ryan got close to each other?" she asked her sister.
For a second, Roseline didn't know how to answer her sister. As far as Elizabeth remember, there was not even a single time where Roseline spoke good about Ryan, Elizabeth wondered what made her sister get close to a guy whom she disliked.
"He is your cousin-in-law, he and I are relatives now, so I thought it would be better to talk to him normally rather than ignoring him," she lied, but Elizabeth believed her words. The reason for Roseline to lie, was not because she wanted to hide the feelings she has for Ryan, but because she was still not sure if the feelings she is developing for him were true. She chose to not tell her sister about the things that were changing between him and her.
The maids informed them, that the dinner was ready. Aaron and Ryan went to the dinning room while Elizabeth told Roseline to go down first and she would freshen up before joining them. Roseline sat opposite to Ryan and Aaron.
"Where is your sister?" Ryan asked her when he didn't find Elizabeth at the dinning table. "She have a habit to freshen up before having her dinner," came an immediate answer from Aaron. Roseline was surprised by his quick answer at the same time she was happy that her brother in law could tell about her sister's habit.
"Looks like you know a lot about your wife even if it has been just a day! " Ryan commented. "Am I not allowed to know about my wife's habits with in a day?" Aaron attacked his little cousin with his words.Ryan could not utter any other word but shook his head because he knew adding another word would only lead him to dig his own grave.
Roseline laughed to Aaron's counter. It was her first time to see the popular guy of her school and the guy whom everyone admires was made to shut his mouth by someone, that too in front of her.
