Chapter 16 - The Rain

Roseline and Ryan were on their way back to their home. It would only take five minutes to reach her home. She was searching for an excuse to spend more time with him alone. As if the heavens heard her words, the rain started to pour down. Ryan had to stop the bike near a tree to take shelter. They both rushed to stand under the tree. The weather turned cold, the rain didn't look like it would stop soon. Roseline was happy and the thought that she would be spending more time with him kept her warm. Her happiness was visible on her face, "Are you happy because the rain?" she heard Ryan asking her. "You can say that," she replied. They both didn't utter a word but stayed there enjoying the rain. The sound of the rain drops filled the silence between them. The sweet aroma of the earth was spread around them and fine droplets of water escaping the leaves fell on them from time to time. They inched closer to each other to escape getting their clothes wet. Ryan was now only a step behind Roseline, he let out a chuckle when the thought of him standing beside her in the rain struck his mind."What happened?" Roseline asked him in curiosity. "Its funny. I never let anyone sit on my bike but today you sat and that too twice," his words made her happy. "Thankyou for taking me to meet Aaron. I feel relieved," she thanked him.

"Mission successful," Roseline didn't understand what he meant by that. "That day, when I called you, you were worried about your sister and asked me about Aaron. So I wanted to show you my brother. He is cold but he cares a lot for the people he loves," he said and looked at Roseline who was already looking at him. "I'm afraid we will be late if you keep staring like that," his words puzzled her.

" What do mean?" she asked him.

"You see, right now I'm in a battle between my mind and my heart. One says I need to drop you but the other one says to spend more time with you," Rosleine's heart fluttered to his words. "The mind says I'll get another chance but the heart says to stay and I'm afraid that I would never let go if I stay a little longer with you. And right now I don't know which one I should listen to" his words came out in whisper giving her chills down her spine.

"You.... What do you mea," Roseline couldn't believe what he has just told her. She blankly stared at him.

"If you look at me like that, I'm afraid I would fall for you more," his voice sounded deeper aiming her heart. The sound of the rain became indistinct to her, all she could hear was her uncontrollable heart thumping in her chest.

"You can take your time to answer me, let me drop you home first. The rain has stopped," he said. On their way back to her home, Roseline didn't even utter a word. After reaching home, she immediately rushed to her room, her parents were having dinner at that time, they were still in a thought that she came from her friend's house. The entire night, she kept thinking of him, his voice and his words repeated on her mind. A smile appeared on her face before she turned off the lights and went to sleep.

The clock struck two, the night was silent and the moon was hidden behind the dark clouds. Aaron woke up by the sound of a door knock. I got up from his chair to open the door.

"What is it?" he asked the servant who knocked the door.

"The thing is...." the servant was unable to speak out.

"Tell me Mr. Thomson, what is it that you want to tell at this hour?" he asked the man.

"Madam left home two hours ago and didn't return yet," Aaron looked at him furiously.

"And you're telling me that now?" his voice made him tremble in fear.

"Forgive me young master," he apologised.

"Did she tell you where she was going?" he asked him in anger.

"Madam only said that she would be back soon," the servant's voice wobbled. Aaron rushed to the room to see if she left the house with her belongings, but all her things were in the cupboard. He called to her number and found that the phone on the bed.
