Chapter 43 - Do I Know You?

The General was almost sure that he had encountered this person before, and he knew that he would most likely be able to tell by the persons voice, since he had a near perfect perception of pitches that he had heard. But the person in front of him just stood there without saying anything, or even doing anything for that matter, And then he abruptly turned to the person next to him that also looked quite familiar to the General, and then he remembered. There had been a young group of soilders under his service several years back, he had left them behind to take care of the capital in his absence, which kind of made sense why the guard at the gate had ignored him, but for some strange reason he wasn't wearing a uniform which made no sense to him.

He watched the two of them interact together, the soilder handed the fir that he was wearing over his shoulders to the unknown person next to him. The General watched as he gently put it into the pack on his back, and then walked back to the door in order to continue waiting for the audiance with the king. The General didn't know if he was trying to avoid him or give the two of them space since it was obvious that they had recognized each other. What ever the reason he decided to devote his emidiat attention, after all he still didn't know what was going on here.

The soilder was still standing completely still in solute, and the General waved his hand for him to relax.

"So tell me soilder, what exactly is going on in this castle? I've barely seen anyone, and those I do are all tight liped about whatever has been going on here."

The soilders face darkened and the General had an extreamly bad feeling about what he was about to hear. The soilder took a deep breath and was about to speak when suddenly the doors opened and the guard instructed them to enter. The soilder looked hesitantly toward Gordan who merely smiled and waved him off to finish the conversation. The General was interested about this for a reason that he couldn't quite explain, which made him frown. In a split second decision he grabbed the soilders arm and took him to a small eneterence were they quickly slipped inside to watch the hearing.

The king sat on his throne lazily, he looked extremely board to deal with the situation, but when he saw Gordans appearance it made him flinch. The crimson veins and painted face made him feel quite uncomfortable, he shifted uncomfortably in his seat as he waited for the person in front of him to speak. His face turned into a confused expression. Why was he waiting for some commoner to be the first to speak? It made no sense, but for some reason he had the feeling like the person in front of him was of a higher rank than him, it was the same feeling he had gotten when he was in his father's presence, it made him want to disappear, and he hated that feeling completely. He composed himself as smoothly as he could and looked at the strange person with malice. He wished that the hero would finish healing already so he could return to his side and not have to deal with troubling people.

"What is it that you thought to be important enough to disturb me at this time?"

Gordan looked at him strait on, not even bothering to bow his head. This kind of stuck up person left a bad taste in his mouth.

"I came here on behalf of a certain trading village that you are in an alliance with."

The General who was hiding behind a large curtain that was positioned to the side of the throne suddenly froze up at hearing that all to familiar voice. He wouldn't even need to be good at remembering voices to know that one, but it had been so many years, why was he here now?

The soilder beside him was quite confused at this, he had seen the General in battle time after time, and he was completely fearless no matter what the situation would be, so for him to freeze... He couldn't understand what could have caused it to happen.

Suddenly the doors swung open which diverted everyone's attention to the source of the noise. A person who was wearing rather flamboyant clothing stepped into the room like he owned the place. His golden hair and perfect appearance marked him as the hero, though neither Gordan, or the General were aware of this fact. Gordan looked at him quickly and then turned his attention back to the king not thinking much of the child that didn't even have enough sense to keep his magic under raps. It was spilling around the room and it made Gordan want to gag becouse of its sheer volume. Someone like this, they would be trouble to deal with, and then he noticed the armor that the person was wearing, which emediatly made him remember the person under the ant. The person had one of their arms in a splint but other than that he looked perfectly fine for someone that had been crushed by an ant of that size. Gordan didn't really want to deal with the person who had been indirectly the cause of his black blood problem, as well his inability to eat for the next day. So in his book this person was already on the negative side of things. Plus, he had abused his horse quite a bit, and as they had also traveled together and spent the most time together of the group.

The hero looked around the room, wondering what was going on with the strange slightly intimidating individual that was standing between him and the king. The hero was shocked at the thought that he was intimidated by this person, and it did not take long for that shock to turn into annoyance, especially once the person turned their back on him.

The king looked between the two people in front of him wondering. what he should do, he had the feeling that anyway that he turned things would go bad. He cleared his throat residing to prolong his decision.

"Ah... sir hero, we have been expecting your return."

His smile was so plastered on that Gordan wanted rip it off. The king turned to him quickly still keeping the smile on his face.

"Dear citizen I will be happy to hear your grievances very soon, but now I have to attend a prior engagement. You understand yes? I can have one of the guards prepare a room in the palace were you can wait until my business is completed."

Gordan smiled an extremely calm smile, the situation itself was quite rude since if there had been a prior meeting planned they wouldn't have even let him into the throne room to begin with. He knew that creating a scene would only make things worse for the request if he pushed the situation further so he decided to just drop it. He didn't want to be in this place longer than he had to, especially after learning that the General was there and now he had no other choice. In order to get the best results he could deal with staying a bit longer, after all he had no desire to return to the village after the letter he had read prematurely. Betrayal always left a very bad taste in his mouth, and while he understood their reasons, that didn't make it any less of a betrayal. Thinking about such things made him a bit moody so he wanted to get out of the area as soon as possible.

"That's fine with me your majesty, I just hope that you will hear me out by the end of the day, since it is quite urgent."

He turned on his heal and started to walk out of the room. As he was passing the hero he didn't even acknowledge his existence which made the hero lose it. He had already felt with the humiliation of being crushed by that dead ant after his failed attempt to kill the traitorous soilder, so his mood was not exactly the best. Not to say that he would have let it slide for someone to ignore him on any other occasion. He expected people to fawn over him every time they laid eyes on him, after all he was their savior. So as he walked past the hero grabbed Gordans arm to stop him.

"Did you not hear who I am peasant?"

Gordan's mouth turned into a frown as he looked down at the person next to him. His expression was the same that one might have when looking at somthing unpleasant.

The hero tried to apply pressure to Gordan's arm in order to get his point across, but he didn't even flinch instead he sighed in annoyance.

"Is there somthing you need, or is it just usual practice to grab onto random peoples arms? Plus don't you have a meeting to attend?"

The hero's face turned slightly red and he released Gordans arm instead moving his hand to his sword pulling it out with one fluid motion.

"How dare you insult me, you need to learn your place."

A smile spread over the hero's face, he knew that violence was one of the best ways to lighten his mood, and now a perfect way to vent his frustrations had appeared in front of him, and he wasn't about to miss such an opportunity.
