Chapter 47 - Next Move

Gordan looked down at his fingers which were covered in small cuts and pinpricks and let out a long sigh. He knew what he had to do, but he also knew that it would hurt quite a bit, so he was slightly hesitant to. He brushed his fingers through his hair and then decided to just go through with it. He slit both of his fingers and scribbled a series of tunes on either of his hands which would prevent his blood from drying as long as it was in contact with his skin. He then attached his arms to either side of the wall and started to walk down the hall while drawing blood on the walls as he walked.

The soilder had informed the General of all the things that had transpired during his rather long absence, but when he had finished he was still curious about what had happened between Gordan and the General. He knew that he couldn't really ask in this setting but curiosity was starting to get the best of him which made him feel quite troubled.

The General was considering what he had been told when the soilder's mood suddenly shifted slightly. The General looked up and saw that the soilder seemed to be thinking about somthing rather intently but before he could ask about it he heard the sound of someone clicking their tongue. He looked toward the balcony and say that Gordan was bandaging his fingers for some reason. He looked to be in a rather considerable amount of pain, he also seemed to be muttering under his breath about somthing that the General couldn't quite make out. He was still slightly uncomfortable around Gordan but he had apparently gotten a bit better since he had been able to speak with the soilder without any problems while Gordan was in the room.

The General noticed that the sun was about to set and frowned, somthing must have been wrong since the king should have summoned Gordan back by that point, but so far no one had shown up at all. He looked once more at Gordan who was staring absently at the garden. He summoned up all of his courage and decided that he could at least do his job as leader of the armies.

"So, what was it that you needed from the king exactly?"

Gordan swung his head around to stare at the General for a moment, almost considering how exactly to respond to the question. The General thought that he might have angered him but Gordan slowly walked over to the table and laid the papers detailing the predicament of the village quite clearly. The General looked over the documents quietly for a minute.

Gordan sat down next to the soilder while they waited for him to finish reading. Gordan could guess what was bothering the soilder next to him. In fact it was practically written on his face, though he was trying to hide it. Gordan decided that it was probably better if he changed the train of thought for the soilder.

"So, what do you want to do now?"

The soilder looked at him quite confused, he didn't understand what Gordad was meaning by saying that.

"What do you mean now?"

Gordan smiled at him and made a small gesture with his hand.

"The conversation that you and the Genreal just had. You said that you had no one left. So do you intend to stay in this kingdom, or leave?"

The soilder nodded his head in understanding, he hadn't thought that Gordan had payed any attention to their conversation since he hadn't even noticed him at all for the entire duration, but apparently he had been listening quite closely since the General hadn't noticed him say that, and he had been the one that the soilder was speaking to. The truth was now that the General had returned he didn't know what he would do, his original idea was to leave the kingdom, but now that might not be the best option. He looked at the ground and started to think about it quite seriously.

"What is it that you want to do, not what you should or shouldn't do. What is it that you specifically want to do from hear on out."

The soilder froze, he had spent his entire life living for those around him. He had even joined the military in order to protect his family, not becouse he liked fighting or anything. He wondered what it was that he wanted to do at all. He thought back to when his friends would comment on his lack of intrest in anything outside of things that could help his family. He looked over at Gordan with an expression of someone who was completely lost.

"I have no idea what I would want to do, I never even bother to think of that kind of thing becouse I didn't need to. And now here I am without anything at all."

In the last three months he had succeeded in losing everything that he had ever held dear, and now everything that he had built his life on had dissipated before his eyes, leaving nothing but dust and ruin.

Gordan patted the confused soilders shoulder and smiled at him reassuringly.

"At least now you realize that the problem exists, and realizing is the first step toward recovery. Just remember, even if you fall down you can always get back up and start over, if you do that you might end up with your answer."

The soilder was confused by the statement that Gordan had just made, he couldn't tell if it was an encouragement or some kind of odd warning.

"Well that was a terrible way of putting it."

The General had finished reading the paper and stared listening to the conversation between Gordan and the soilder. When he had heard what Gordan said he had accidentally said out loud what he had been thinking in his head. As soon as he did Gordan turned his head slowly to face him. He had a smile on his face but he was also radiating an aura of annoyance. He was just about to say something when a knock came at the door fallowed by a guard entering briskly.

The guard, who had come in the room with an air of disgust instantly saluted as soon as he saw the General. The guard was incredibly confused as to why the General would be with the person who had been waiting all day to talk with the king, but then he saw the documents and the soilder that everyone had been instructed to keep an eye out for which made him even more confused.

For a moment he just stood there in shock, and then he lowered his spear toward the soilder who was sitting next to Gordan and walked slowly forward.

"By the order of the king you, vice captian Drake Gold are under arrest for for treason, and conspiracy against the king."

Gordan turned to the soilder with a bit of shock.

"So your name is Drake?"

Drake looked at Gordan for a moment and then realization dawned on him.

"That's right I never did tell you my name did I? Sorry about that, I didn't even think about it."

Gordan waved the apology away with his hand.

"Well you weren't really in a great state mentally when we met, so I don't really think that it was somthing that you could really control. So it's no big deal, don't worry about it."

The guard was a bit annoyed at being ignored in such a rude fashion, he thrust his spear toward the soilder to indicate that he was not to be toyed with, but the person who had been waiting to speak with the king suddenly stood up and grabbed the spear at the back of the head crushing it instantly with his hand, making the spear head fall to the ground with a clang.

"Really General do all of the people in this kingdom lack even basic manners?"

He smiled at the guard and gently let go of the spear. The guard looked on in horror, as the part which he had been holding onto crumbled into dust.

"Now let's try again shall we? What are you hear for?"

The guard was trapped by Gordans gaze which felt like it was piercing through him. He had the feeling that if he answered this question wrong he might end up the same way as the spear had.

"I-I came t-to inform y-you..."

Gordan turned his head to the side a little bit, and his smile widened just a bit, which made the soilder stop stuttering instantly.

"I came to inform you that his royal majesty is ready to finish your earlier conversation, please don't kill me."

Even with how rude the guard had been when he originally entered the room, both the General and Drake couldn't help but feel sorry him.
